Im Canadian, but I live in Mexico during the winters..well I've actually lived in Mexico since covid, but thats not the point. Last week a few of us decide to drive from Cabo to this hidden waterfall in the east capes..its about a 2 hour drive from Cabo. We go see it, pretty cool, head back towards "town", Los Barilles. This place is literally a one horse town, anyway, we stop and have a late lunch and we overhear some people talking about the new pickleball facility that got built. It's the middle of april in the baja, 3 pm, sun was absolutely scorching..like who in their right mind would be playing pickleball when they could be on the beach right? So we stop in to check it out...place is PACKED. 12 courts filled with 4 people each, and most courts had people waiting for next game. Just today Im walking the dog down the marina, theres a construction sign, city is planning on putting in 8 pickleball courts. What am I getting at? I dont really know..Ive just noticed this sport a lot lately..seems to be getting quite popular..maybe Ill even try it one of these days.
I went to to Tuscon for 11 days last winter. One public court had 12 brand new, individually fenced -in courts, which were placed where there used to be 6 tennis courts. All 12 courts were in used every morning, with between 12 and 32 people waiting. Many skilled players. Great way to start the day. In Ithaca NY, we play all summer by setting up portable nets on either side of three tennis courts, where P-Ball lines are painted on top. On nice days, all 6 courts are taken and maybe a dozen players waiting. Mostly seniors. The younger players come at night. There is an indoor facility in the winter, and a dozen of the surrounding towns have indoor facilities as well. One farmer, out in a beautiful valley, has four courts built in his pole barn, and people play there a few times a week, but there's no heat....I entered my first tournament recently and won! 12 teams, mixed doubles, 3.5...but moving up to 4.0....I played a lot of tennis and ping pong..still do. Who would have thought I'd be an athlete at 68?

Can someone explain to me why in some doubles matches, one player will be covering almost the entire court while their partner is shoved into a 2' corner? Meanwhile right on the other side of the net, both partners seem to be covering exact halves of the court? Why wouldn't you always *generally* stick to your own half of the court before you need to start improvising?

but no one answered your question, when the ball bounces in there, then you can step in and hit it. You can step in it any time you want, but you can't hit the ball while in there until it bounces. If you stepped in early, the other team would just peg you with the ball and they'd get a point since you can't touch the ball in there until it bounces so no one goes in there until after the bounce or if they are running through it to hit the ball on the side of the court, but even then they usually jump the corner just to be safe.

I'm confused. Someone told me today that Rule 7H says, and I verified (paraphrasing) that if a player gets hit with the ball (other than from a serve or is hit in the hand that is holding the paddle) a fault is called on the team that hit the ball. This video ends with a player getting hit with the ball, and the team that hit the ball celebrating as though they won the point.
i mean that doesnt really make any sense though. You could just purposely hit the ball with your hand and get the point every time. Not sure but that just doesn't sound right
Guy in the black at 4:30 is a greedy mid court hog, needs to stay more on his add court side. Almost shoulder to shoulder at the net with his partner. You have to trust your partner to cover their side of the court, win or loose, if NOT, than they are not a true partner.

That’s mixed doubles for ya. They’re trying to play to the strength of the dominant player, usually the male - but yeah at 2:40 they got smoked for it. To be fair Riley Newman is a top 3 pro so sure, give him more shots.
What the hell is even this...? XD Why are people coming up with more and more noob-friendly racket sports all of the sudden? It's like the people who can't play tennis suddenly wants to feel sporty so they just make up their own sport that they can actually play.
I play tennis, ping pong and pickleball. Tennis is difficult to learn. Pickleball is easy to learn. Easier than ping pong. It's popular among seniors because it's a little easier on the body than tennis. Also, you can just show up and play. You don't have to organize four people, schedule days in advance,, and commit to the full length of time. You just go to the park anywhere between 830-noon. You wait a few minutes, and you step into a game. You play for 10-15 minutes, and then you play another game with another combination. Then you sit for a few minutes, then another game......until you've had enough. No changeovers. Great socializing. If you want to get more serious, you enter a tournament or do drills. Maybe take a lesson. P-BAll is generally cheaper than tennis (except the tournaments, they can be expensive! but many are reasonable) You can play in your driveway. Just get some chalk and rig up a net. It's easy to learn, but more difficult to master...not as difficult as tennis, though.
I had no idea badminton got that insane, those guys were absolutely ridiculous.... still I'd rather play pickleball, because they have courts everywhere and I don't have time to get good at that shit. My table tennis experience translated pretty well to Pickleball and its great exercise. I'm not even competing in amateur levels, just use it to get some cardio in and have fun while doing it.

They lied to you bro. If you get hit with the ball it’s the opponent’s point.
i mean that doesnt really make any sense though. You could just purposely hit the ball with your hand and get the point every time. Not sure but that just doesn't sound right
Cool
I never see the pros using down-spin. At my low level, it's very effective.
iamgine John Isner or Karlovic take a serve here 😅😅.
I think they still would find it hard to make an ace with this ball.
@@147pablox yeah you can get crazy with serves but they need to be underhand, so it isn't like they can smash it on a jump serve or something.
Grandpa sport
Put beer cups in front of each of the players and you got beer pong/pickle?
Guy in the black at 4:30 is a greedy mid court hog, needs to stay more on his add court side. Almost shoulder to shoulder at the net with his partner. You have to trust your partner to cover their side of the court, win or loose, if NOT, than they are not a true partner.
Adam stone (guy in blue) hugged Dekel (guy in black), so he didn't seem too disappointed. And the point is to win, not have fun at the professional level. That's the strategy they agreed upon.
If it beat Tyson and Riley (a top 2 doubles team) then it was probably not a bad thing.
@@bobmalack481 who's the weak link? And the best mixed teams have the guy take more court than the girl.
@@bobmalack481 FYI one of those players is a former tennis pro (Dekel Bar, guy in black), the others are all D1 tennis players. They've trained to become as skilled as they are. Go ahead, try to beat them. You'll regret it. It's an entirely different sport, and it doesn't translate well instantly, no matter the sport.
The last time I traded for Dekel Bar on the international market the Euro and silver had a larger foriegn exchange rate...
I've never played this game before but I already know I would smash these people.
I assume you are joking right? 😂 while this sport is relatively new and unknown to most, it is still 100% a professional sport with years of training, dieting, and playing needed to make it to this level. Don't judge a book by its cover :)
@@ironlotus24 I am already trained and my diet is on point. If this game required the same racket skill as tennis I would agree with you but this game is more like a very slow version of ping pong on a human size table. I would be pro in a week and smash these people to oblivion.
@@deltalordtrading good for you, I guess? Still, try it before you say anything
Too funny. Easy to have a big mouth. Not so easy to keep up.
@@Fl1f1sh keep up? its a whiffle ball.. lol
as a tennis player its nice to know i could probably smoke everyone here
Why not just play badminton
0:56 she have the foot over the line.
She hit it off the bounce tho
so frustrating to watch. to many "teams" has 1 player standing in the middle and the other almost off the court. Like WTF.
That’s mixed doubles for ya. They’re trying to play to the strength of the dominant player, usually the male - but yeah at 2:40 they got smoked for it. To be fair Riley Newman is a top 3 pro so sure, give him more shots.
average age of combatants in Vietnam was 19, average age of Pickleball player is 91...
It's so cute these people think they are pro athletes.
What the hell is even this...? XD Why are people coming up with more and more noob-friendly racket sports all of the sudden? It's like the people who can't play tennis suddenly wants to feel sporty so they just make up their own sport that they can actually play.
exaclty
Pickleball has been around since the 60's, so not a new sport just more popular now. It's a fun game, good exercise and very social.
So it's like tennis😂
its the in-between of ping pong and tennis lol
The non volley zone and two bounce rule makes learning the short game a must. All negative posters need to try it before being so critical.
They never heard of Padel in the US ??? What nonsense is this ?
Thats exactly what I was thinking. At least for a beach sport looks funny
Pickle Ball is a mistake. Change my mind
You're less than 40 years old, change my mind.
Seems someone is getting a little too worked up.
One more thing different from tennis.. the commentator doesn't know to shut up during the point.
vaya cagada de deporte se mueven menos que un playmovil
Very lame compared to Padel tennis.
what a ridiculous sport is that? OMG..
get off your ass and try it.
And would you like to submit your candidate for a sport which is not ridiculous,,,? Open season boys and girls!
looks like a crappy version of tennis
Don’t watch then? Stupid comment
Man this sport is underwhelming to watch. It’s a pingpong and tennis hybrid that lost all intensity in the process
Need to change the paddle and ball, they stink!
To slow for me. That game looks like they are playing in slow motion😁
Try it sometime and you'll see it is not a slow game.
Looks very boring
@@StampIt4word It's a slow game. I used to be a Tennis instructor and Tennis is not a slow game.
This looks absolutely ridiculous. So slow, and barely any movement by the "players". Huge yawn. Signed "a tennis player"
well if you compare this pickleball to this ua-cam.com/video/-QrSqUUSmU8/v-deo.html Quite a difference in.....well everything
When you aren't good enough to play real tennis
wtf is this
Yawn
Tennis for old people
How tf is sad to play this sport at a pro level 2vs2 men and even grunting
that guy lobbing and grunting was hilarious to watch
Must be the slowest tempo sport ever created.
remind me why there's so much hype and investment into pro pickelball?
what a snooze fest, so boring to watch. these are 'insane' points??
no way people actually consider this a sport
If tennis is a sport then this one is too lmao
No way you've ever played it.
@@pseudonymsnake9318 not at all how it works, the physical and mental requirements exceed far far past this silly excuse of a sport, the speed and spin in tennis is a million times greater than this. Comparing this to tennis is like comparing baseball to wiffleball. It doesn’t make sense.
@@asiansensation6864 first of all, if you look it up, any source will say it’s a sport. So I don’t need some random person on UA-cam thinking they can have an opinion on a fact. Second, you’ve probably never played, so come back to this comment section when you’re a 5.0 in pickleball and tell me it’s not a sport.
I have played it and I can confirm It is far less difficult and exhausting as tennis, I'd say it's around the same level as ping pong
So pickle ball….what failed tennis players play?
Idk, just throwing blindfolded darts
how is this a sport
if Curling is a sport, this is a sport x 10
