I thought the flashback scene during More Than Anything was an indication that Lilith (maybe Eve in disguise) kept them separate deliberately. I don’t think that scene was included for no reason…
Lucifer here actually lined up with Charlie’s story earlier in the first episode. He had dreams/ideas but was cast out from heaven for it and can only see the negative results (the cruel and wicked sinners of Hell) instead of the positives. So Lucifer lost his will to dream and fell into another level of Hell, Depression. And adding in Charlie’s words at 0:05, this implies that his melancholy soon caused him to unintentionally push away his beloved wife and daughter. He always cared about them, but Lucifer became so empty that he eventually forgot how to properly express it.
Or his wife and daughter assumed stuff and left him alone to deal with his things and thought he would come back to them once he sorted himself out, Charlie says he calls her sometimes but SHE never calls him, given according to him it's been years since she called him. He was more than happy showing off to her everything he could do for her hotel just because she asked and anyone with eyes could see that he would literally gives her hell on a silver platter, which he can do too.
"My daughter wants to see MEEEEEE!!!! Take that depression!" This line literally popped into my head randomly this morning while I was making coffee, and then this is literally the first video UA-cam recommended me to watch.. Algorithim's getting scary
I’m just imagining Vivziepop sitting menacingly in her office looking over the fan theories and the fanon that Lucifer would be a horrible father then proceeds to cackle like a supervillain like ‘you fools, when I’m done you’ll WISH he was your father.”
I knew Lucifer was going to be more goofy than sinister. I even knew about his rubber duck obsession. But despite that, I was still caught off guard. 🤣
As an introverted person, recently going through divorce, with a fixation on collecting rubber ducks and difficulties socializing, Lucifer is one of my favorite characters.
I want y’all to notice how, at Lucifer’s home, his hat nearly scrapes the top of the door (seen at 2:49 ), but then when he gets to the hotel, ( 3:25 ) we see that he barely makes it over half of the doors height. This could be because Charlie designed it to be more inclusive to various heights as she expects various types of demons to be walking through those doors, OR. Lucifer specifically had HIS door designed to make him feel taller.
Isn’t Angel like, 8ft? And their first patron? I’m definitely going with “Charlie made all the doors big for tall sinners” but fully support Luci making *his* doors short. Although maybe that’s an ‘after’ thing cuz Charlie and Lilith are both taller than him
Everyone's focused on how goofy Lucifer is here, but no one mentions Angel here? I like seeing how he just casually takes the knife from Nifty when she starts thirsting for a dangerous man again. And that sweet smile when Charlie says she's trying to help them. He's the perfect proof that Charlie's project is actually working.
So true, Angel deserves all the love in the world. It's so heartwarming to see him starting warming up and trusting people around him in Hotel, he understands, that there he is welcomed and cared about
2:23 it hurts seeing Lucifer's expression when Charlie is begging for his help. "I need you, I need your help" "Yeah, I don't know Charlie" You can see he really wants to help her but can't because he's afraid she'll get hurt, like he was. But he'd rather take the blame and have Charlie hate him, then tell her the truth. I'm so glad they opened up to each other in the end.
I love what they did with Lucifer. Everyone was expecting another high ranked demon that's a cold, sadistic and mysterious being. So I am glad they decided to make him a goofy, awkward and depressed guy that wants to be with his only family. That's also why "More than anything" is one of my new favourite song.
Whelp he’s not a demon, he’s the Devil and a fallen angel. He grew to not help sinners and fell into depression then his daughter came with the same dream to help them into being redeemed.
It's been made clear from the start that this version of lucifer was very much an angel at the start and was kicked out not for some betrayal but because he had a dream to change things. And has since lost his family and dreams. I don't know what everyone else was expecting, but depressed Ned Flanders was basically what I expected
I genuinely thought they were either gonna make him like a Hell version of Willy Wonka, a cartoonish version of Lucifer (you know which iteration I'm talking about), or even like Nergal from Grim Adventures... but this... this is just fan-fucking-Tastic! (I'm still laughing and replaying "This has to be perfect, Heeeey B***!")
He is not the best dad. He hardly reaches out and is pretty distant, sure he’s trying and does love Charlie, but it takes initiative to build a relationship
😊🍎🐍🐍🍎🥰😊 Lucifer is back on the Hazbin Hotel and his voice actor is so unique. Rubber duckies his whole office is full of rubber duckies even though that ringtone it sounded like a circus theme but did he just call Charlie b%tch
I always thought Lucifer was this heartless person who didn’t care about anyone let alone Charlie’s dream, but after that I realized he's not what I imagined, he's just like Charlie...
@@mrEduardo354 i think it meant like that sinners cant be redeemed, maybe,i mean he says that and admits that i think from his 2nd song that he also tried to have sinners redeemed aswell but failed and didnt want Charlie to go through that same bullshit with Heaven
Notice how in the pilot most people assumed that Lucifer's a toxic parent and Lilith is the more supportive one. But from what we've seen now that season 1 has been released, it's beginning to seem like the opposite
Most depictions of Lucifer: Dark, mysterious, immature, bitter Hazbin Hotel’s Lucifer: Rubber duck obsessed goofball that is combating post divorce depression
I love that Lucifer didn't just become the misunderstood father who couldn't connect with his daughter because Lilith didn't let him. He's still weighed down by the fact Heaven cast him out for an action he clearly regrets greatly, and while he loves his daughter he never knew how to bond with her, especially after the split of him and Lilith. I like that he's portrayed as this character with genuine flaws that can't just be excused but that he needs to work on to fix them. More than Anything is a beautiful song and showing him trying to support and bond with his daughter after so many years. While I will not say he is a saint, he was definetly an angel. Whilr he is shown to be very silly for the sake of comedy, I think his true character was still written very well in there as well.
I have a couple friends who are children of divorce and said this portrayal really resonated with them. It's a pretty nuanced situation, and I think they portray it pretty well so far.
Frankly I’ve been friends with a a few friends with depression and personally suffer with it myself but at least in my personal experience we tend to be goofy and comedic as kind of a defense mechanism
I didn't even notice that when I first watched the episode but wow he definitely hates Lucifer something fierce. I hear theories it's because he made a deal with Lilith but I wonder if it could be partially because he genuinely thinks of himself as Charlie's father figure since Lucifer was never around unless he needed something.
Alastor and Lilith both disappeared for 7 years. Alastor has a mysterious deal with someone. My conclusion: Alastor and Lilith had an affair, both managed to get into Heaven somehow, she got Alastor to agree to a deal to go look after Charlie. Alastor hates Lucifer because of his relationship with Lilith.
All really good theories my friends, though I do think part of Alastor’s dislike for Lucifer is because as long as he is around, Alastor is no longer the most powerful person in the hotel.
*"Wait. You're INVITING ME OVER?"* I really appreciate they went this way to show his depression. You can tell he desperately feels the need to get close to her again but he can't bring himself to reach out to people. That is an extremely overlooked aspect of depression that I'm glad they showed here.
I wish I had someone like Vaggy in my life. You could see it in her eyes and how she held Charlie's hand during the phone call that she's always backing her up when she needs the support ❤🥺
what if, god (ASSUMING he actually makes it into the show, not a guarantee) never intended to send lucifer to hell, and it was just the other elder angels (im pretty sure thats what they're called) that kicked him out
He thought he was giving humanity a great gift by granting them free will. All he’s seen are the down sides, being banished from heaven, humanity choosing to do bad things. He feels like a failure.
this entire exchange and any and all of Lucifer's scenes are amazing, what gets me the most, is the escalating panic in the way he says "daughter" the first time he says it, is nearly whispered by the forth and final one he's screaming to himself and fumbling the phone, i love it, he also has a kid picture of Charlie in her contact info, adorable
When you’re depressed, nothing is ever good enough, especially if you made it. It sucks and you suck and everything sucks and you’re better off being away from those you love because then they’ll see how much you suck and everything will suck even worse. No I am not projecting what makes you say that?
The repetition of Stolas's reaction to Blitzø asking him on ""a date"" at 2:39 with his reaction to his daughter inviting him over is the cutest and most sweetest thing 😂
Lucifer's obsession with ducks really shows how much he loves charlie, as he made that magical duck projection for Charlie during the "more than anything" song. It shows that he's trying to replicate that memory he shared with Charlie; his room full of rubber ducks which is a metaphor for him trying to replicate that memory, but never succeeding. Even when he makes the "magic-tastical back flipping rubber duck" he realizes that it's just not the same, and ends up tossing it at the picture of him and Charlie. The rubber ducks are a brilliant representation for Lucifer wanting to replicate that feeling he felt when he bonded with young Charlie.
On top of that, Charlie gave him love and appreciation for for his creativity. The entirety of heaven couldn't give him that, and it looks like even Lilith was only able to up to a point. Sometimes I wonder if Lulu World was another gift for Charlie, albeit one that was open to the public (makes Looloo Land even more shameless if that is the case)
@@H0r53f7y Yeah this is the way I see the actual Lucifer since he is the first fallen angel think about it how many other angels have fallen besides him?
0:19 Angel throwing the knife away from niffty was pretty funny and him being quite supportive towards Charlie. But can we agree that this episode made every single hazbin hotel fan change their opinions on Lucifer being a bad dad and all
@@aldrinmilespartosa1578 yeah, episode 6 showed it better. At that club he's seen worried about Niffty, at one moment she was seen cleaning the table of some dudes causing a disaster at that table, Angel took her and paid them a round of drinks as a way to clean up the mess
knowing al if he did refuse it would be one of 2 reasons, A. he was busy with something else. B. the producers decision to axe everyone viv had working on the show at the beginning for "pro talent" put too much of a bad taste in his mouth to accept
This is a real conversation with a friend of mine. Me - "So, I really feel that the reason why I like Lucifer so much is because we both have a lot in common. We both stay in our rooms working on our hyperfixation, pretty much depressed, but very loving of close family even if sometimes they are upset at you. Also the fact that a lot of people blame him for all the things that happen, and I’ve seen some reactions of people saying that 'he's very negative' but that's cause he's depressed of the mistakes he did that caused so much damage." Friend - "…" "Yeah. Also because you're short."
Considering that Lucifer can open portals to literally anywhere in an instant, I like to think that he used that hour as prep time like he did for the phone call
2:40 *Small detail most of people will ignore* due to funny nature of Lucifer in that universe In some religions, mostly christian, The Evil can't pass your doorstep until you *invite* it in. Lucifer basicaly The Evil itself, so now it make sense.
If you look closely, and it shows the various pictures in his room, you will see that apparently Charlie went through a goth phase, and that is adorable
I cannot tell you how shocked and giddy I was when I saw this scene, because I was genuinely expecting a scary demon of hell, and instead got a rubber duck obsessed depressed dad. I’m not complaining
Lucifer is such a goofy dad, which I definitely love that about him! He may be the ruler of Hell, but he's also very sweet and protective of his daughter! "Take that depression!"😁💕
I know, it definitely caught my attention as out of all the main cast present at the hotel, it was Angel who stood out the most with her reactions, maybe more than Vaggie. It still hurts a little bit that he wasn't the first redeemed soul, but he's not supposed to ascend as long as his soul isn't his and I think it's good that they resolve the problems with Valentino before he go to heaven.
See I love Lucifer! He isn’t a perfect father, but at least we know he greatly cares about Charlie and wants to make an effort to reconnect with her. That’s more than my dad could ever do for me 🤣
We all knew that Lucifer had a goofy streak from pre-release announcements, and I was expecting him to have given up on humanity due to seeing so many of them abuse his gift of free will. But him being an awkward, lovable DORK who really wants to be a good father to his daughter, but happens to be so depressed and worried that he doesn't know how to show it? That, I did NOT expect. And I love him for it. He is best angel, hands down. Also, Angel plucking that knife away from Niffty was HILARIOUS.
I like the detail that Lucifer doesn't curse often when he speaks like the other demons do since he was an angel. The fact that Charlie has a similar speech pattern (and likes to sing as well lol), shows the influence Lucifer had on her and how similar they are. I feel like she probably inhereted most of her 'angelic'/good traits because of him, but that depends on how lilith is as well 😅
I like how Charlie talks about her dad not really ever calling her unless he needs something and she is in fact the one who hasn’t taken the initiative to call him in years and she only does because she needs the favor
I loved absolutely everything about this episode, especially the goofy rivalry between Lucifer and Alastor, their duet song, poor Charlie trying to mend their relationship and talk to Lucy about the Hotel. Also, Mimzy's appearance was quite surprising and her friendship with Alastor was really sweet- until the sharks attacked the Hotel And such a cute ending of the episode with a beautiful and heartwarming song was just wonderful💓🙌 "More than anything" is one of my most favorite songs now Btw, I definitely need more moments with Lucifer, his animations, voice, attitude and expressions are simply awesome✨
I can’t think of many interpretations of Lucifer that show that he actually sees his punishment from heaven as punishment not only that but showing Lucifer as still having some angelic beliefs towards sinners I absolutely love it, I also have a feeling that it was Lucifer’s depression that led to him and Lilith splitting, I think they both still deeply love each other but his depression made him not nurture their relationship and family and Lilith while she probably tried to help finally realize that Lucifer had to take initiative to help himself and she didn’t want herself or Charlie to fall into depression as well
In some ways he reminds me of Tom Ellis' Lucifer, who similarly lowkey hates getting handed the king of hell title, knows full well that being forced to doomscroll forever IS a depressing punishment, and is hiding all of the looming angst behind a healthy coat of smarminess. No seriously, can we talk about how their punishment of having to oversee only the worst of humanity for eternity is literally just eternal doomscrolling? No wonder he's so depressed.
honestly love the fact that lucifer has a rubber duck hyper fixation, it's actually really cute ngl. I'd also like to add that they've actually nailed his personality quite well. The fact that he's shorter than his own daughter is quite adorably funny.

He was more than happy showing off to her everything he could do for her hotel just because she asked and anyone with eyes could see that he would literally gives her hell on a silver platter, which he can do too.

@@TheDictionaryDuck Hm... FEMALE LUCIFER HEHE HAHA!
I choose option two, hands down.
His workshop is a hobbit hole! 😂
I guess it could be both😂
Isn’t Angel like, 8ft? And their first patron? I’m definitely going with “Charlie made all the doors big for tall sinners” but fully support Luci making *his* doors short. Although maybe that’s an ‘after’ thing cuz Charlie and Lilith are both taller than him
Extra hilarity, that means that whenever Lillith went in there before things went south she had to bend over like she was folding herself in half.
I read "perfect proof" as "perfect floof". Angel is both!
I love how both Angel and Pentious look genuinely concerned for her during the call, and Angel seems to be signaling moral support
@@KollbjornYT there is no perfect proof, only perfect floof now
So true, Angel deserves all the love in the world. It's so heartwarming to see him starting warming up and trusting people around him in Hotel, he understands, that there he is welcomed and cared about
2:23 it hurts seeing Lucifer's expression when Charlie is begging for his help.
"I need you, I need your help"
"Yeah, I don't know Charlie"
You can see he really wants to help her but can't because he's afraid she'll get hurt, like he was.
Idk what you mean by everyone expecting a cold Lucifer.
Most of the fandom was expecting this to be their Lucifer? Have you seen the fanart??
It's been made clear from the start that this version of lucifer was very much an angel at the start and was kicked out not for some betrayal but because he had a dream to change things. And has since lost his family and dreams. I don't know what everyone else was expecting, but depressed Ned Flanders was basically what I expected
Now it makes sense why he’d build a theme park
I genuinely thought they were either gonna make him like a Hell version of Willy Wonka, a cartoonish version of Lucifer (you know which iteration I'm talking about), or even like Nergal from Grim Adventures...
but this...

That is a twitch that’s says. “Keep it together old boy, keep it together.”

I WAS ACTUALLY ABOUT TO RIGHT THAT 💀💀💀
Lucifer's obsession with ducks really shows how much he loves charlie, as he made that magical duck projection for Charlie during the "more than anything" song.

I can’t think of many interpretations of Lucifer that show that he actually sees his punishment from heaven as punishment not only that but showing Lucifer as still having some angelic beliefs towards sinners I absolutely love it, I also have a feeling that it was Lucifer’s depression that led to him and Lilith splitting, I think they both still deeply love each other but his depression made him not nurture their relationship and family and Lilith while she probably tried to help finally realize that Lucifer had to take initiative to help himself and she didn’t want herself or Charlie to fall into depression as well
I think Lilith was, like, the first sinner, so she sees his depression and regret as being rather insulting to her, like she is damaged goods.
