Brighton Beach, Brooklyn's Little Odessa

- Explore the South Brooklyn neighborhood of Brighton Beach, a little piece of the Black Sea coast in New York. Home to people, food and culture from Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and all over the former Soviet Union. You won't find a neighborhood like this anywhere else, except maybe one of those countries I just mentioned.
I was with my Family there 2-3 years ago it’s such a cool place to visit!!!
Brighton Beach is amazing, I love Little Odessa! ❤
Me too! 🤗
I like how it basically shows everything.
The neighborhood is a complete mix of nationalities, everyone gets along.
True
Beautiful tour around Brighton Beach. Thank you!
There aren't enough good videos about this Brooklyn gem of a neighborhood!! Thanks for changing that!! Keep 'em coming
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Wish I had more time in Brighton Beach. A very unique place in this country.
Thanks for sharing ☺️
It seems great ! I got carried away immediately 👍😄 never saw this part of NYC and we visited twice back in the ninethees. That was a beautiful little clip put together here! Beach and boardwalk look very relaxed, not too crowded at all. One could really think this was filmed in Odessa itself. Wished I could be there strolling in that cozy part of New York, right now! 👍🍀🌷 Best wishes from Belgium 🇧🇪 God bless! 🙏
Thanks Miss Parsley! It was definitely a highlight of my trip to New York City. Belgium is great too, by the way. I visited Bruges (or Brugge, if you prefer) back in 2018 and I never wanted to leave. Any country that puts such emphasis on stew and French fries is close to my heart.
Another instant classic from UA-cam’s premier travel vlogger-Steve McTV!
The tv channels in New York are different than at home I dint like that zero stars!
Great job....thanks so much
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Can't wait to visit Little Odessa on my trip to NYC next month.
It's a really great time and I think it is a great addition to a NYC trip. Most people probably don't think of doing it but it's a really unique experience you can't get anywhere else. Except maybe Odessa, I guess, but this might not be the best time to visit there.
Haha this video was hilarious.
GTA IV brought me here
Now that you mention it I wish I could play GTA IV again after going to Brighton Beach. I preferred that setting to the Los Santos/LA in GTA III and V.
@@stevemctravel3884 GTA 4 is the best GTA in my op i was replaying it in my free time again.
You from Dorchester?
No, I'm a Somerville boy, born and raised. What made you think Dorchester? If I look like some guy from Dorchester who owes you money I'm definitely not him.
@@stevemctravel3884 hahha na I just thought I recognised ya.
@@anyoldiron1031 Well I'm a bald, freckled, red bearded guy who wears scally caps and Red Sox hats so in Boston I think there are a lot of me. If you run into the guy you thought was me tell him to stop stealing my look!

Odessa? I barely know her!!!
Odessa is a coastal city in Ukraine. You must be confused.
@@stevemctravel3884I think he’s making a joke
@@erectilereptile7383 Oh blimey, I was fooled by a joke! Can you explain the joke to me? I'm still not getting it. I'm always getting joked on.
"Da !"
Eto tochno!
I wonder how the war has affected the community.
It has not much. I live down here.
Next time Putin said Russian ethnically in Brooklyn need to conquer, since Russian speaking language. 😁
1st ODESSA IS NOT IN RUSSIA BUT UKRAINE, 2nd its whole different countrys, people etc. Cheers from EU,
Hi, Robert! I understand that Odessa is in Ukraine and that Ukraine and Russia are completely separate countries. While admittedly my language gets a little confused at times in the video I do believe I make the point that while Brighton Beach has a large Russian born population it also is home to many others from the former Soviet Union, such as Ukraine, Georgia and so on. I didn't specify that the original Odessa is in Ukraine, however, so if this causes any offense I apologize.
We do know that. But,. the main language here is Russian. I live here.
@@stevemctravel3884Everywhere in Soviet Union or SSSR people learn Russian, and speak R. even Kazakhstan, Uzbek other stans, Chechnya who are Not Slavs. Russia&Ukraina during SSSR was best friends, kinda SLAVEN-SLAVS brothers,Two biggest Slavs Republics in USSR, similar to Yugoslavia - Croats&serbs who speaks same(almost) language, even Croats Latin-Serbs Chirilica like Russian.,Ukraine and are orthodox all 3 of them, Croatian s are Chatolic.Even Rus.are allegedly gifted Krim to Ukraine but before that wasTatars! Stalin made genocide and put in Siberia Tatars cos alleged cooperation with nazy! He settled after that with russ&Ukra.Krim! When Ukrains wasn't good enough Rus.& Putin Want Krim back. It's a similar story with Odessa. In CROATIA also, Serbs came to Cro 1st to help Cro&Austria fight Turks, after in YU 1945 Serbs inhabit parts of HR and when CRO want go his way West,Serbs like East & Russian, War become,Serbs have YU Army, all weapons but finally lost war. Sorry for my English, not my language! Cheers
@@kresivarivkah612 Everywhere in former USSR ppl speak Russian to ke bio Official Language, couldn't work in official affairs, Army if u didn't speak perfect. I don't know how big the difference is between Russ. and Ukra. but i know Serbo-Croatian in YU is almost same language, we understand each other perfectly only sometimes Serbs wrote on Chirilica, Croats only Latin, but we older generation know, cos learned Chirilica in school.Official language in YU was Serbo-Croat. or Croato-Serbian, That was good. I mention Yugoslavia cos also War was tear as apart, made damage still. hurt Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia & other 4 Republics. Cheers from Dalmatia Cro

Kudos to the Taste of Russia store owner deciding to change his store's name since Putin's invasion.
I wasn’t aware of this but I definitely respect the owner for doing that. Do you know what they changed the name to? It must have been hard, that’s a pretty elaborate sign.
@@stevemctravel3884 They are still deciding on a name, some speculated that the new name would be "Taste of Ukraine" but ownership explained that the new name would not be political.
How do you see that as a positive? Despite Putin’s actions Russians should be proud of their great heritage and culture and have the right to advertise it to the world.
@@jackperri3186 Well you can look at it from multiple perspectives I suppose. Since I assume the owner of Taste of Russia was originally from Russia and has a certain degree of national pride, the fact that this person took the step to change the name indicates that they strongly disapprove of Putin's actions. If they saw the invasion and then decided to put up a Russian flag in the window to show more pride I would find it troubling so I see this as doing the opposite. If, however, they are changing the name because they fear anti Russian prejudice or shame or something I would say that is not a good thing. I haven't seen any evidence of this so I'm guessing it was in opposition to Putin so I support it.
@@stevemctravel3884 if Russia over a sudden became friends with Mexico and was trying to build military bases right next US, I'm not a rocket scientist but there would surely be an American invasion of Mexico soon after. People really shouldn't open up their traps if not fully versed on a subject..
Are there ethnic Russians and ethnic Ukrainians in Brighton beach these days?. To my knowledge Brighton Beach is 100% a Russian Jewish neighborhood.
Another piece of prepaid "pro Russian" propaganda. Propaganda loves to put it simply where it's complicated.
Little Havana in Miami is in fact "Little Spain" since they speak Spanish.
I wouldn’t say it was prepaid. I’m still waiting on my check. Putin said it would arrive in two weeks, that was a year ago. If you can’t trust Vladimir Putin, who can you trust?
@@stevemctravel3884 You and clown Putin serve the same masters. No way to hide.
