iam a big neil fan also. I love him, he taught me the guitar. but why do you say he is the best guitar players in the world? I love how he plays, but he uses a simple foremat.
I always liked this song, even though it’s not one of his best. It was at a time in the 80s when everyone was selling their music, to anyone and everyone who to give them a paycheck for it. Neal, still true to his believe she was against the commercialization of music.
Love this song, and it's a great sentiment of course. OTOH, it helps when you already have the money! I certainly don't begrudge artists who decide to feed their family any way they can. We all didn't play at Woodstock. Further, I honestly don't know, did he ever take sponsors on any tours after that? It is REALLY hard to not have sponsorships on large scale tours anymore because they are ridiculously more expensive than they were in '88. No disrespect to Neil Young of course, a living legend! EDIT: I see that as recently as 2018 he expressed an objection to his double bill with Bob Dylan having Barclays as the sponsor because of their involvement with the fossil fuel industry. Good on him for his integrity. The other side of this, of course is that if you really want to see him you're paying over 200 bucks. So now it becomes a class thing. Would normal people rather be able to go and see the show with a good seat for a hundred bucks and deal with a couple of ads, or would they rather play $250 a ticket to avoid that or be sitting in the back on the top tier and watching Neil on the giant TV? Jeez, may as well keep watching on UA-cam. That's what I'm doing with the Genesis 20:21 tour!
This song didn't age well. Like the late Ronnie Van Zant said... I hope Neil Young will remember a southern man don't need him arould anyhow... and either does Spotify. :D
relevant now as much as it ever was
