He was talented. He made his mistake when he left the group for he needed that true brotherhood to help him with his addictions and keep him straight. Sad waste of life.

+monmixer He was right to leave the group because he was the group. His mistake was the drugs he started at an early age. When you stop and start back that person is very likely to OD.

Frankie Lymon is the best talent I've ever heard. Such a gift he had I don't even know if he knew how good he was or not. Me being a singer myself and to hear him sing especially at that age gives me chills. He sang and did things with his voice that even veterans couldn't do. Only if he could of survived his struggles with drugs we could of been seeing the next Sammy Davis Jr. If not even better in my opinion. Rest in piece Frankie Lymon hope your singing in the streets of gold with your golden voice and perhaps one day I'll finally get to meet with you and even sing "Why do fools fall in love" with the greatest talent I've had the pleasure of hearing.
    Till then..

When I was a kid, I love this song, I would hear it walking down the street and would stand still to listen and feel very special inside. I was only near 6-8 years old with a full bag of candy from the store from a quarter I spent. Funny though until 1968 I always thought it was a female singer. I just loved the song!

-Frankie & The Teenagers had the potential to go far & would still be a well known group like The Temptations, Smokie & The Miracles, The Shirelles, etc. But worthless managers robbing kids & other groups of their $$$, was common. Then the Teenagers 1950's NYC slum neighborhood had all the urban sidetracks to make things worse, drugs, gangs, Frankie's involvement with drugs, women, bad management decisions to break up the group & push Frankie solo. Then his voice changed as he got into his late teens. And more drugs & 3 wives. Eventually he made his worst & final decision in 1968. But he could have still gone far. -r.i.p.

I remember reading Rock Star by The Late Jackie Collins and there was a fellow just like Frankie Lymon. He was Bobby Mondella a Country & Western Singer who was a teenager, but when his voice changed, he found out who his real friends were. They all but washed their hands of him, even stealing his Songwriting Catalogue. He worked for several years as a Men's Room Attendant ant a Studio 54 Nightclub and nobody knew who he was. He made a comeback but it was so bone chilling to see what happened to him. 1313perulee, nobody cares about these children. They get "Used" to make Bank and then they find out who their real friends are. Look at Aaron Carter, I feel he's going to be another Rock Tragedy. As far as I'm concerned, alot of these Boy Bands should look at these Performances and see how it was "really" done back in the day.
