    Still a great voice. Grow up and stop expecting him to sound like a 25 year old for Christ’s sake!! Keep rocking Geoff.

    The comment section truly teaches a good lesson. In High School, I always, kind of thought that I was a bit smarter than most others, because of my musical taste. See, I was a huge Queensryche fan. I was clearly wrong, as not all of the fans where all that smart. I now realize that you can't gain any insight into people based on the music they like. I don't understand why people get so anger at music they don't like? If you really do not like something, just maybe don't listen. Is it that hard? I'm a fan of Tate's work and view him as a true artist. Now please hurl insults at me and call me gay.

      A guy I knew back in the mid 90s told me he met Tate in CC tx and said he was a prick so he kind of gave me a prophecy of the future tate we would all see .After the band broke up I no longer cared for Geoff even having met the guy numerous times backstage he was just cordial that's about it .Never have I stopped liking the guys music that he helped the band create I have loved everything from the EP up to American soldier then nothing after that .I still have queensryche songs that flow through my mind everyday since I was a teen now I'm 47 and will have a catalog of music from this band for the rest of my life .

    Tate is improving, but not to the point where I want to see him live again. Everyone showing up is just feeding on nostalgia...because the reality is that he can't carry the songs like he used to in the past. Todd isn't anywhere near perfect either, but he's way better than this. And to top it off, the weak backing vocals are still prominent. He's supposedly raking in the money: how about hiring some decent backing vocalists since EdBass is no longer carrying his dumb ass?

I saw them in 84 open for Kiss and obviously THIS isn't THAT but for him being 60 now I can say that he's still bringing it for me. Some of the morons on here simply amaze me with their remarks?? Go find me ANY artist from the 80's metal/ rock scene still consistently bringing it like they did then. I'll wait..🙄

      +Jeff Rager Small venue, that's what they all sound like. When you see it live though it sounds awesome and you're happy to be there and with a few drinks you're loving life and being thankful for these songs being an important part of the soundtrack of your life and even though the whole band isn't there, you're just glad some of them are still alive to perform the songs you love. How's that for a run-on sentence? But it is what it is and Geoff Tate is as good as it gets as a singer and performer. Be thankful when you get the opportunity to see him, and anyone else you appreciate for that matter.

    Kelly Grey ain't bad. Simon Wright had a hard time playing AC_DC shit. What's kinda cool is if you listen to Geoff now he is getting his voice back. All that animosity towards QR must have made him start taking care of his voice. Unfortunately his newest band sucks ass . And as I hear La Torre s voice is giving out, getting raspy. He cant hit the highs without getting Axle involved.

  • @mglenn7092

    There's a link down there somewhere on the right (or at least it is when I load the page...) for a live version of 'Neue Regel' from 1986. Go listen to that-- it's much better.
    More to the point-- Tate sounds much better here than he has in years, but his singing in this clip is a very pale, washed-out shadow of the way he used to be able to sing. Todd La Torre's vocals likewise sound better than Tate does now, but are nowhere near as good as Tate was back in the '80s & '90s. Meanwhile-- Tate's new band is missing something critical that the band carrying on under the Queensryche name now is also missing: neither band sounds any better than a cover band trying to play Queenryche's music without Chris DeGarmo.
    IMO-- Queensryche's been dead ever since DeGarmo quit and all we've had has been zombie-groups trying to carry on the legacy. It would be tolerable if it really were cover bands... but still, I'd rather just put on the track from the original recording than listen to O:MC or "Queensryche" (Rising West) trying to play it. I came here to give this version a chance... it ain't impressing me.

    • @alanndrake2619
      @alanndrake2619 5 років тому

      M Glenn he's 57 here bud and it's a live version not studio. Not sure why you're comparing the 86 live version to this either when RFO was fresh to this now as it's critically unfair. Idk what your age is but when you hit 60 tell us how physically similar you are to your 27 year old version.. Jesus christ, be happy the man is still making music, especially in a shit era like now..🙄

    this is sad...I have been a die hard "Ryche" fan since finding the E.P...in the misc. "Q" section back in 1984. This band here is painful and sad. Geoff has the right to get older and lose his range like most humans...but in turn..he shouldn't try to sing songs he just can't sing anymore. And Simon is way wrong for the music. He doesn't remotely have the Rockenfield swagger. Just like he didn't have the Appice chops...or Rudd's steadiness. I digress. Todd is a great singer....but he is being pushed to the limit at times. So...I just put on the records and enjoy one of the greatest bands ever. Enough of this painful stuff.

    chris, I've seen Queensryche so many times live that it's not even funny, I used to idolize Geoff Tate, but I can't get over how much of an ass he was to his fans. he doesn't have it in him anymore, his passion is gone and it comes out in his vocals.yeah he's damn good, but nothing like what he used to be.

    • @one80srocker89
      @one80srocker89 8 років тому +1

      +Jeff Rager Jeff, it's been over 30 years since their first album came out. He doesn't really have to prove anything else. Most really good bands/artists are done after 10 or 12 years and most bands/artists are strong for only a few years. At this point it's a career and all business. When they were on the rise, that is when you saw the passion. After Empire, Queensryche was going down hill. The sales of their '94 release were very high but times were changing and they had already peaked. I've seen alot of bands on the turnaround and they aren't always so thrilled to be playing the small venues either. Some choose other careers but most still enjoy what they do for work. For the most part it's all they know but most of them wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. The way the band broke up wasn't pretty but we don't know all the shit they went through being together for so many years. I'm sure they just got on each other's nerves. But he is singing note for note and most singers and bands get bored with their songs and they ruin them live. Tate's stage presence doesn't look as passionate in this video but he is an amazing vocalist. Not sure what he did to the fans as you mentioned something about that. Prince just died. It's another reminder to enjoy what you still have.

    Saw Queensryche do this(Operation Mindcrime) thing as a play with actors about 10 years ago at Ram's Head-Live, in Baltimore and it was TRULY DISAPPOINTING!!!
    Did NO songs off of their EP, maybe 1 song off of "Warning", and the rest of the show was average...AT BEST!!!😕🖓

    We all know this guy is washed up and I'm a GT fan. Todd does sound better but I don't like the fact he seems to be going beyond his capabilities or at the near extreme of it and doesn't deliver the songs in the same manner and fashion as GT once did. It's passable, but as a fan, it's not good enough for me so I can never buy into following QR at all at this point. Plus, Chris Degarmo is not around and that is where their true sound was with as he was the key writer for the band. He also didn't really like metal music and it showed from QR's songs as being borderline metal. Only Wilton, Jackson, and Rockenfield were the real metal heads in the band. So being that Chris Degarmo and Tate are gone, QR in my opinion, is gone too.

    • @dimebagsaxex5802
      @dimebagsaxex5802 6 років тому +1

      Ron13 Quesada If Michael, Scott and Eddie were the Metalheads in QR, why when Chris left did they get shittier and shittier? Im not trying to be sarcastic sounding or being a dick, but if Chris wrote the majority of classic QR, (and he did) why didnt they turn in a heavier direction instead of sounding like a lame Seattle coffeehouse band trying to get signed in the grunge era? Everything after Promise Land is just so awful to me. Ive been a QR fan since 1985, and soooo would have welcomed a heavier version of what they were doing. If they would have done that, they would have...i think solidified their legacy as Prog Metal Kings as they were. QR Mid 90's everyone jumped off the QR train. And honestly, i havent bothered to listen to any album they've put out since Promise Land...until Condition Human. That album is fuckin great, and it would be pure gold had Geoff sang on it in 1997. Condition Human is where they should have started after Chris left. And all us people who loved them so dearly would never have left em. If they would have done that, i think they would be so much more solidified in their legacy and still have a huge fan base still and not the traveling shit show Geoff has turned his false QR into. He NEEDS to give up QR, realize its in his past, respect the past and move the fuck on. Just my opinion anyway.

    • @j800r
      @j800r 5 років тому

      @@dimebagsaxex5802 Look at the writing credits for Hear In The Now Frontier. Almost everything is written by Chris. He was a fan of progressive music, like Geoff and was also the bridge between the other guys (who were more the metal guys, especially Whip) and Geoff. Since Geoff has been gone the group have essentially turned into a generic metal band. You even said yourself that the new albums are where you've regained interest.
      btw, music isn't separated into metal and shit. That's just being ignorant and narrow minded. A true music fan can learn to appreciate all forms of music if executed well. Hell, Empire wasn't "metal", Q2K, Tribe, Mindcrime 2 and American Soldier were all at least as "metal" as promised land and more "metal" than Empire which was a straight up rock album.
