  • In this video I am making drawers cabinet under a staircase. This project was comissioned by a customer. They had the vision to use this space under the stairs. This space was otherwise almost unuseable! I am happy how it came out please enjoy!

Thank you, thank you! I’ve wanted to have this done in my own home. Small capecod and the stairs seem to be the perfect storage spot for shoes & games. Now the hunt for a carpenter!

Thanks for this video. This is a project I've been thinking of tackling my staircase has a similar curve to it. I hadn't thought of making individual drawer "boxes" so thanks for the inspiration.

Excellent idea, I definitely want to do this for our stairs as it would be an excellent way to store shoes.

Nice done. I will also do this in my house. Did you use 8mm plywood for the supporting case? Is this stable enough?

In the UK (where I am) there are stringent rules on stairs (Part K of the Building Regulations) I didn't check yet, but I would imagine the prospect of someone failling to close one of these drawers would create a potential fall hazard. I agree that the use of extra space is always welcome, but as a contractor you would need to check regs before agreeing to undertake such work to avoid serious liability, cool job though :-)

Hi Dave, did you check the rules on this? I'm interested in getting this done so I'd be interested in knowing if it's possible or not.

@@khkh15619 hi Karen, I sid check and can see nothing there to forbid this design of drawer being installed, however, the "spriit" of the regs declares that the stairs are designed and installed to be safe because stairs are a major source of injury in the home. Personally, as a Joiner, I would not fit riser drawers as they reduce safety, lower their structural integrity and as stairs may be your only means of escape in a fire I think common sense dictates to leave them alone. Just my opinion though and I agree they look good. If you employ a Tradesman ask him to check the regs, but remember it is the homeowner who is responsible to ensure any work complies. All parts of the Building Regs are free to download if you want to look. Good luck with your project

I wonder if there are spring loaded drawer slides requiring to hold the drawer open or it closes. Looking at the drawer boxes and supports between them, I imagine this design made the stairs stronger.

Can this be done without having access to the back? 🤔

My first thought was this is awesome... My second thought was that I'm going to forget to close a drawer then trip on it in the middle of the night 🤸

That is true, you do have to be careful with stairs and steps.

You could always wire up a light inside them that illuminates when they are open for each drawer. That way you know if they are open or not when its dark.

Nice idea but speaking from experience with cabinet drawers (sometimes drawers aren't closed properly) a safety hazard for me...someone might trip. Specially at night if lights are off. And of course also you're always going to be on the lookout if a step is safe everytime, which is not worth the hassle.

the horrendous repetitive beat is so that a viewer will never return to this channel.
