"1776 is a 1972 American musical film directed by Peter H. Hunt. The screenplay by Peter Stone was adapted from his libretto for the 1969 stage musical of the same name. Portions of the dialogue and some of the song lyrics were taken directly from the letters and memoirs of the actual participants of the Second Continental Congress. The song score was composed by Sherman Edwards."

I find this line funny for a reason I have yet to find nor understand.
It's his homie. Of all people, both Dr. Franklin and TJ are the ones who are supposed to know, understand, and mostly support John Adams.

It's amazing how the camera does one continuous take while Adams runs down the stairs. Spectacular!
It really is, especially for the time. According to the director commentary on the DVD, the camera dolly was lowered on a forklift then rolled off at the bottom and continued into the main chamber.

I just noticed, right this moment, after years of being in love with this movie: there's a dog by the door

.............and @ 2:05, the guy that turns around right in front of Richard Henry.....LEE.......knocks over the candlestick that's sitting on the desk.
Unknowing to the entire cast, the flame didn't go out during the shot. It did however catch the tablecloth on fire, and while everybody was singing in front of it the tablecloth caught fire and burned the table for a few minutes. They had to remove that table from the sound stage after that immediate shot was finished.
Cool!. And I love how the French horn echoes Lee there, kind of imitating the squabbling that is going on.

I have no idea why, but I've always loved that part right before the song where Adams is rushing down the stairs
His stair-descending technique is very refined.
You like it because the background music contains themes from the piece, which Adams sings towards the end, "Is Anybody There?"
It is great.

We are watching old episodes of St Elsewhere and OMG, John Adams is Dr. Craig. Who knew?!?! The voice is unmistakable!
Ironically I saw this performance in London in 1971 while living in Maryland just outside of Washington DC

James MacColl It’s summer on the East coast, which if you’ve ever been there is just awful and groggy, plus screens weren’t invented so it’s a choice between being boiled alive or being slightly cooler and flies being everywhere.
Instead of talking and discussing independence and important subjects, they prefer to avoid them and talk about the heat and the flies.
This isn't very acurate history wise, but it is very entertaining
