    Thanks for watching, guys. Just to clarify one thing. EE do charge an annual unit trust platform fee on its Unit Trusts of 0.25%. If you want to invest in Unit trusts and pay the lowest fee, then the Sygnia Unit Trusts on the Sygnia Platform can be used. Although, if you want to buy any other unit trusts from them, you will pay a 0.4% platform fee. I still prefer EE, as they have a wider arrange of options available, and 0.25% is still much lower than most other platforms. :)

    Great video Pieter! Just to point out Easy Equities charges an annual unit trust platform fee of 0.25% on unit trusts. This can be avoided by opening a TFSA directly with Sygnia (as an example) who do not charge a platform fee on their unit trusts (they do however charge a 0.4% platform fee on external unit trusts). Sadly, Sygnia charges a 0.2% fee on their ETF’s and 0.4% on external ETF’s. The Sygnia fees are on the first R2m of your investment. So it seems to me, if you want both unit trusts and ETF’s you need to have more than one TFSA, one for unit trusts (at say Sygnia) and one for ETF’s (at say Easy Equities).

      Thanks, I really appreciate it! I made tutorials on both the EE ZAR & EE USD accounts that you can check out, where I explain exactly how you can buy shares in both accounts. Buying shares in your ZAR and USD account won't affect your income tax bracket. Only when investing in a RA (Retirement annuity) will the contributions lower your tax liability and, in effect, push you in a lower tax bracket.

    • @MoneyMarx
      @MoneyMarx  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Yuuto. No worries, you can always just start buying ETFs now inside a TFSA and then later on transfer your fixed deposit TFSA over. Just remember, you must contact the provider to whom you want to transfer it so that they can send you the proper paperwork. Do not withdraw your money and then redeposit it. That will count as a new contribution which will likely exceed the limit and thus you may get klapped on 40% tax on the excess.

      The important thing is that you started 7 years ago! Luckily you are able to transfer it tax free to another platform like EE to invest in share/property ETFs. Just remember to ask EE to handle the process and not to cash out your TFSA with FNB and then redeposit the funds, otherwise it will be seen as a withdrawal which will massively penalize you due to the contribution limits

      Hey Patricia. The great thing about personal finance is that it is personal. Everyone will and should have their own approach based on their own circumstances. There is no right or wrong, as long as you understand the most important aspects of investing, i.e. that asset allocation, fees and tax savings are really important to optimize your long term returns. Hi Money Marx, thanks for the helpful video. I have had a Tax free account for a few years now (with a bank) and last year I transferred that account from the bank to Satrix. When I did my tax return this year, SARS issued a significant penalty because of this. My question to you is, are you allowed to move your tax-free account between providers and if so, how do you do it without getting a penalty?

    • @MoneyMarx
      @MoneyMarx  2 роки тому +8

      Hey Liav. I'm sorry to hear that! Yes you can transfer a TFSA from one provider to another, tax free, but you will have to contact the new provider to facilitate the process. You must not withdraw your TFSA as cash from your bank and then deposit it into the account from the new provider, as this will count as a new contribution, and if this amount is more than R 36k you will be klapped with a 40% tax penalty on the excess. I assume this is what happened? It is a really stupid rule from SARS, and in my opinion, unnecessary as many people are not aware of it. :(

    If you have used up your interest exemption in your own name then investing in taxable income producing etf like property or bond ETF’s then you are getting greater tax benefit than offshore or local growth equity. And better to invest in offshore ETF’s in USDollars than in rand ETFs locally. Your judgement that SA bonds are poor investments is dangerous right now when long bonds give you guaranteed returns over 11%

    Great video! In general, the rand denominated offshore ETFs, are they considered offshore Investments? Meaning you need to pay the IRS their % of tax. Or is it considered a local ETF?

    • @MoneyMarx
      @MoneyMarx  2 роки тому +2

      Hey AW. Thanks, man. So what happens is you buy the ETF in rands, the ETF provider converts your rands to USD, and then buys the equivalent value of shares in the offshore currency. When you then one day sell your ETF shares, it is first sold in USD, during which the IRS will take their cut in taxes. The USD balance is then converted back to rands and paid out in your bank account. With DWT, these taxes are already subtracted before it hits your pocket, so you don't have to pay them again. But with interest and CGT, you will need to declare your profits to SARS during your tax filing and then pay tax on them. I will highly recommend getting a professional tax practitioner to file your taxes, especially with offshore investments, as sometimes the offshore country will tax the full amount of taxes. Then these need to be claimed back as tax credits from SARS in SA. But all of this will be reflected in your annual investment tax statements, so a tax expert will know how to do this correctly.

    • @aw5453
      @aw5453 2 роки тому +1

      @MoneyMarx  2 роки тому +2

      @@aw5453 No you won't have to pay any taxes to the IRS yourself. They will take their cut before the money hits your pocket and your investment platform will handle all of this on your behalf and will reflect it in your annual tax statement which you then need to submit to SARS during your annual tax filing.

    Wou jou opinie vrae, my Provident fonds is meestilik in Sa fondse invest hence dit maak sense dat ek my TFSA oorsee druk maar met die inflasie wat nou gesien word in Amerika, is baie van die ETF’s daai kan op ‘n decline. Ek sit met my R36k lump sum geld reg maar voel dis dalk slegte timing om dit als nou in te druk as die mark so volatile is wat seker nog vir ‘n ruk van die jaar die geval gaan wees. Sal jy se dat ek eerder kyk na R3000 investments op die stadium?

      Hey Ryan. Eks bly die video het jou bieq gehelp met jou besluite :). Jah kyk n TFSA moet altyd deel maak van mens se totale beleggings startegie, so as jy reeds n Providend fund het wat deur Regulation 28 beperk word tot SA fondse, dan kan jy die TFSA hard stoot in oorsese markte.
      Amerika is tans mal jah. Maar dis maar net n korreksie. Hul was vir baie lank op n sterk bull run en meeste van die grootste companies was heeltemal overvalued. So al het hul markte nou geval, en gaan dalk nog val, is dit n baie goeie tyd om te koop. Dis basies onmoontlik om die markte te time, en met n TFSA kyk jy na dekades se beleggings, so of jy nou n maand of 2 uit is gaan nie saak maak oor die grand scheme of things nie. Die rand is ook huidiglik baie sterk teen die dollar, en as die rand verswak is dit goed vir i rand denominated offshore ETF in n TFSA, so dit is nog n rede dat dit nou n goeie tyd is om te koop.
      Ek gaan volgende week Donderdag n video uitbring waar ek die lump sum vs rand cost averaging strategie met mekaar gaan vergelyk, spesifiek binne n TFSA, so hopenlik sal dit jou ook help met hou besluit. 💪

      Hey Angelique. Mens gaan altyd maar verlore voel in die begin aangesien skool ons nooit die goed geleer het nie, maar hoe meer tyd jy gaan spandeer om videos te kyk en op te lees, hoe meer gaan jy die goed begin leer en verstaan. Van my eerste videos op die kanaal is waar ek die konsepte in hul eenvoudigste vorm verduidelik, so daai sal 'n goeie plek wees om te begin kyk :)
