      I'm so glad the corrector (?) or UA-cam let the "pun intended" and Brad's wish at the end for some "special" style of Death Metal at in. And by the way, where do I see the people who did the subtitles? I have to show my friends that I'm more than a completly useless person. :D Thanks!

    A band that was very important for the Quebecois scene was Obliveon. Their album Nemesis is a tech metal masterpiece, and guitarist Pierre Remillard became a great producer, who worked on many of the scene's key albums.

    It was released in 1990, so they were arguably even ahead of Death in terms of incorporation of technical and progressive elements into their music. One of the most truly underrated bands.

Nicest dude on the fucking planet, seriously. Here I was fanboying over this amazing amazing musician and he was just so nice and humble about it. That goes for the whole band really. Seeing them again in 4 days and I cannot wait. I think Quebec are so lucky to have a band of such caliber coming from there.

    I'm a huge Progressive Rock/Metal, and Metal/Death/Thrash fan. Was working at Tower Records in Santa Monica when a label rep gave me a promo copy of Gorguts "Obscura", and Cryptopsy "...And you will beg" - at the time they went over my head, but warmed to it the next year when I was trying to find more Tech-Death Metal bands. Found "Martyr" at a used store in Venice Calif. in 2000, it must've been less than 5 bucks, a few months after it debuted. Was a great find. Along with "Augury", another blind purchase at a F.Y.E. store in Glendora Calif. in 2009, used for less than 7 bucks.
    . . . need to look into Deviant Process and Sutra \m/.

    • @AggressiveTendencies
      @AggressiveTendencies 5 років тому +1

      Hell yeah. Hope you find some new tunes to listen to when you dig it. Thanks for sharing your story...tech death is the opposite of bargain bin music, but you got it for bargain bin prices. Hell yeah.

    • @mvunit3
      @mvunit3 5 років тому +1

      Actually, I think "most" of the very obscure bands I've found (Metal and Prog) have been in the "bargain bins". Maybe California is big on that because of the amount of record stores that were around back then, and still a few around today in SoCal alone. And the record labels, and variety that people are into . . . who knows.
      Again, thru 1988 (90?) and 2001 (or 02), I worked at Tower Records in Santa Monica, it was a very small store but we had huge traffic. We also had a very diverse crew of listeners that were specialists in certain musics. Me and 2 others were into Metal, and 1 other into Progressive Rock. I was into extreme Metal (but very picky), but Prog Metal was my thing . . .
      I was stock clerk for awhile, but became the display artist. Was able to make displays for Maiden, Dream Theater, Tool and even put detailed descriptions for bands on their divider cards to get people enticed to listen to their music (especially for Fates Warning, Opeth and Meshuggah when hardly anyone knew who they were). It's because of Tower, I caught up on all I missed with Opeth (got into them on "Still Life"). Met a few celebrities there, but the biggest one and still amazes me is the 'Professor" Neil Peart! (he was in town to hear Geddy's solo album, but it might have been the time he moved there with his new wife :). The Label Reps treated me well, I got a lot of Promos, but also official CD releases. I still have most, and the original print of Dream Theater "Live Scenes from New York" that was released on 9/11 (didn't even realize at the time, the ironic cover). Man, that was a traumatic day :(.
      Then I worked for "Record Surplus" at the time on Pico Blvd. in West LA as a clerk, where I found many CD's I'd been looking for over 15 years! Then even more obscure releases when I worked for their wholesale distribution warehouse "Leftcoast Marketing" in Culver City. I used to create pallets for Nuclear Blast, Earache, and Noise cutouts (and many more labels and genres of music). Great places to work for a music fan, and get to hear things I wouldn't normally listen to. I've lived an interesting (but hard) life :P.

I blacked out on well whisky and carling black label, rode my bicycle through Detroit in the rain... I ended up at a techno after hours... my wrist band matched the artist wrist band at the afterhours. I was escorted to the performers lounge... I was then (several free drinks later) escorted out.
