I'm sure you're right! I started jazz about 15 years ago and set about to learn 1 jazz standard every 2 weeks. "Fly me to the moon " Let's get away from it all," "Misty," etc. Best idea ever!
I've been playing alto sax for quite a few years (with a 20 year break) and soprano sax for 1 year and was always hoping I could learn jazz "by osmosis". By itself that method doesn't work. Most of my "practice" time is playing in public (busking and gigs) and I have maybe an hour a week to work on learning jazz standards and language. I appreciate your videos (and Dave Pollack's and Dr. Wally Wallace's) for giving some very good tips on how to, step-by-step, make progress. Thank you!
This year's New Years resolution was to learn 10 standards, in all keys, melody and harmony. (Which is pretty close to one per month) I can attest that it has been such a valuable thing to both build my skills, and narrow my focus to not feel overwhelmed when I practice. Thanks for all your advice!
you do an amazing job creating and editing this video! I am a vocalist and although I do not concentrate on learning chords and chord progressions, i do spend all of my practice time learning jazz standards and perfecting them. My challenges are most remembering the lyrics and getting the timing right, especially when I am singing with a live band.

Any time!
Frank Vignola's advice to me to learn jazz... "Just learn songs... lots of them".
Is that the contemporary series AFC95??
