  • A review of the the Andhand Method fountain pen. It's an anodized aluminum and brass pen with a gold-plated Schmidt nib (M), and it's a looker.

Although minimalism isn't a style that attracts me I enjoy seeing what pen makers around the world are doing. I found this to be a very interesting review. Best wishes.

Thank you again, James. This is a very nicely done pen. Has that Lamy-esque minimalist philosophy

Hi James and thank you for great review of this interesting pen. One point, to be fair to Andhand, from a picture on their website, the pen's cap can act as a pen rest as the cap is faceted so will stay steady on a flat surface.

It's an attractive, minimalist pen. I like Schmidt nibs.

James, concerning the way different pens post, (deep, shallow, or not at all.), I'm just guessing but I think it has a lot to do with the balancing of the pen. If you've noticed on some pens that do not post at all, they seem to be well balanced. You should attempt to look more deeply into this when you evaluate pens in the future.

Nice pen, nice construction and quality. But, the section is just a bit too think for these arthritic fingers...

Why do you test the reverse writing? Does it tell you something about the nib?
The pen itself is just beautiful. I'm a maximalist by nature, unless it's pens, (because I have tiny hands fancy pens tend to be far too big and heavy anyway), so it's perfect.

Good question, I often overlook it because it’s not a metric I personally use to measure a pen’s function, but I learned to include it for others. The idea is that if you have a nib that’s too broad or wet for certain uses (quick note in a margin, small writing on a chart/spreadsheet, etc.) you can flip the nib and write a dry XF/XXF note. Most nibs aren’t ground for this, but some are. Parker even sold a pen, the Parker 180, that was ground to offer two nib sizes in one nib, but many of their nibs were good at this already at the time (70s and before).

@@JG3Reviews Thank you 😊 It just seemed like an odd thing to do, but now I know the reason, it makes sense.
