The way he pronounced "winds" like "winds up a clock" says "AI narrator" to me. 😂
The voice said "AI narrator" to me
This happens a lot. Is it intentional? Gets people to leave comments and drive engagement metrics.
It is. It's important to note that a fair portion of content like this (including TV shows and documentaries) are using AI narrators. Does it change much? No, you can still take in the information, but you have to admit, it feels different when it's not a real person.
I was just thinking the same thing.
Wind up the video 😂😂😂😂😂
“Whyyyyynds” 🤨🤨🤨
Didn't pick up that it was AI until then lol
Hey no, don't get me all wound up on the evidence that this is AI content. No human would say wines instead of win-ds

Chew on this nugget: the reason we don't have a moonbase is the Earth is flat and the moon we see in the sky is just a massive painted mural installed by aliens who continue observing us. Think The Truman show but on a planetary scale
There is a strait a little north of Drake Passage, called "Magellan Strait", which is a little safer, so Drake passage was not the only route from Pacific to Atlantic Ocean.
A lot of sailing captain's didn't like Magellan Strait especially going East to West because contrary winds and currents could create extremely hazardous navigation. Without even auxiliary engines the conditions could grow so bad at the western end of the Magellan Strait that it could end up driving sailing ships on to the lee shore.
@@ashleighelizabeth5916 thats right. Thats why i said "a little safer"

What was it like?? And what brought your family through there?
Drake Passage is the widest straight in the world💀
Strait
You got that strait.
"Im drowning" 🤓
"Im draking" 🗿
It was named after sir Francis Drake who was the second person to circumnavigate the world. He also discovered the passage and went up along the west coast of the Americas robbing from Spanish colonies stealing £400,000 of treasure worth hundreds of millions today.
@Goofball6trillion Please look up the name Francisco De Hoes. His ship was the Spanish San Lesmes. He was blown south where they discovered the open waters of the Strait. This happened January 1526. (Drake discovered the Strait 1577 to 1580). De Hoces preceded Drake's discovery. The Spanish, Argentine and Chilean historians maintain The Drake Passage should be named De Hoces Passage. However I wasn't there. But I find the age of discovery very interesting.

Here’s a REAL fun fact:
If you ever want to book a trip to Antarctica, many, if not all Antarctica boat trips take the Drake Passage. It is still used by many people who want to visit Antarctica today.
What percent of them get to and from safely? 😅
@@cw6370 None. Duh!
@@swilhelm3180 actually, there are many successful journeys from the Drake Passage: I’ve been to Antarctica, and I have used the Drake passage. :)
Yes I've seen videos for the same. People travel for 2 or 3 nights in a ship to get there. It didn't seem that dangerous tbh. When you travelled, did you find the waves unusually high or the ship shaking a bit too much?
@@dineshbs444 it was a pretty long time ago, but I did remember the seas were pretty rough - we had some turbulence here and there.
Wow, impressive! Another factor that makes this place dangerous is the numerous icebergs drifting from Antarctica. There is a significant risk of ships colliding with one of these icebergs.

I sailed south across Drake passage in Jan 2020 and then back north 4 days later. Caught the weather perfect and it was pretty calm both ways.
Because you're not a child
You sure that's drake passage and not magelan?
Same here, lake smooth, very disappointing.
Don't let Kendrick Lamar know
Bruh😂😂
Magellan must have had the whole heaven with him to make it through with that technologies.
Strangely enough the oceans have different water levels, salt percentage, and underwater streams going in different directions, so the waters don't mix as much as you'd imagine. So it's not only the wind which makes these passages dangerous to cross.
Thank you for letting me know the importance of the Panama Canal
Drizzy passage 😍

That’s only when the storm happens. It’s when drake unleashes his beast.
The RMS Queen Mary sailed around that passage when the ship made its final voyage to California! It probably did experience some waves but I mean the ship is like 300m it wouldn't be easy to capsize!
The Bermuda Triangle: Should I see this as an opponent or an alley?
I can't believe that drake bought that much water 😂😂
there's also a tectonic plate there!
There was an article discovered in the Casa de La Contratacion of Seville that mentioned that When Magallanes passed by it he said "Wow, crazy waters, Drake will be a brave guy"
Strait of Magellan just chilling at the top😎
Punta Arenas.
Wonderful town!
Don't bring your kids if you go through that passage
"How darw you to challenge me!"
~the north sea
This is where Magellan came thru to get to the Pacific ocean. After encountering bad seas in the strait & upon entering the Pacific ocean he finally made it into the Pacific ocean he was greeted with beautiful calm seas & he then named it the “Pacific” & if im not mistaken the word derives from a Latin word meaning “peace”
Love from the Pacific islands❤️
I went across Drake Passage and I was throwing up 2 days in a row ... I worked as a electrician on small cruise ship that went to Antarctica,South Georgia and Falkland Islands.
How bad was the waves?
You worked on the Cap cruise? Cause you seem to be full of shit 😂😂
Even the sea dissing drake💀
“Winds” ai voice goes crazy..
No, you are wrong only minor ships disappeared through drakes passage 🌝
I heard the most dangerous Pacific ocean was named like this because after Magellan went through Drake passage there was a good weather in Pacific ocean so he called it Pacific
Magellan casually got on that route
Drake is way to rich he even bought a passage and named it the Drake passage
I can see why it's called drake's passage
It was so dangerous in fact, back when their was no Panama Canal, trade routes would often choose to sail the long way - in the opposite direction and go around the world to reach their destination to avoid the dangerous waters.
Is that path a certified lover boy 😂
Did not know all these facts about the Drake Passage! Awesome, 😮

I live in Valparaiso, it was an important city on sea routes through the drake passage, until panama canal existed. Welcome to visit, it's a beautiful city.
I am sure it is, love to see it if I survive the sea voyage
There are actually two alternative routes past Cape Horn that existed before the opening of the Panama Canal: The Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel.
Winds ❌
Wines ✔️
The Panama Canal opened to traffic on August 15, 1914. Not 1920, as this video starts.
I've been through it 💪🏼I'm a chemical oceanography specializing in the southern oceans
Was it crazy?
So, just... petrology or geology, but in a maritime aspect? "Chemical Oceanography" I've never heard of the major, not discrediting it, just asking specifically what you study. Or is this more geomorphology with an ecological or biochemical focus?

My Great Great Grandfather sailed through that strait from England in 1849...
And my grandfather invented HIV 🫡
Was he heading to california?
"It is the widest strait in the world"
"Because it's a narrow place, winds reach maximum speed"
Where is the Diddy passage? 😂
"...... ship's graveyard"
Bermuda Triangle: am i a Joke to you?
It's the 3rd most dangerous body of water in the world. But it has far more traffic than the other 2. Number 1 worst water is the Bering Sea between Siberia and Alaska. Number 2 is the Shelikov Strait between Kodiak Island Alaska and the Katmai Area on Alaska's mainland.
Try sailing around Ca[e Wrath, or anywhere around the British coast, for that matter. I have seen 45-foot waves down the East Coast of Scotland, hurricane 12 storms, bloody great whirlpools off the North Coast and of course, the Merry Men of Mey. This race of a fast tide over underwater cliffs, churns up the sea and effectively reduces buoyancy, like trying to sail over foam. I sailed the Pentland Firth in a small cargo vessel and a sister ship went over the Merry Men and snapped in two. The Pentland Firth is one of the most dangerous passages in the world.
dr… dr… dr… DRAKE???
@Ultragamer07JMagellan went through Magellan’s Straight in Tierra del Fuego not Drake’s Passage
Kendrick Lamar: *learns about this*
Also Kendrick: *proceeds to turn into oil*
"Conditions are harsher" The mediterranean sea has like 0 Storms imo...
It refers to oceans. The Mediterranean Sea is a secluded body of water surrounded by relatively dry regions obviously it’s not going to have major storms. Not to mention having no storms doesn’t mean calm waters there are several atmospheric conditions that can cause high winds other than just storm systems.
The drakes passage. It is the widest in the world where many kids have disappeared to to it being incredibly huge
That's only illusion, in 2010 from New Castle Australia we passed that strait going to Santos Brazil the sea is very calm and smooth
