    My machine doesn't have SSV, but I use this technique manually with the overrides and got great results. When you do not want or can't change the setup, rapidly changing the spindle speed works. Especially when you're facing and getting chatter.

      This. You don't even necessarily need a HAAS machine to apply what you learn from these videos. Great series that teaches concepts.

      @Yeah Right "Tool Pressure" may I have an explanation? I've had lots of problems with chatter and it's almost always boring bar length or not enough support on jaws. Actually is there something I could read up on that you would recommend on this topic because I was just thrown in on a cnc lathe (not a HAAS) and had to learn everything on the job.

Funkioniert sogar sehr gut.

    Again, HAAS destroying the competition with great info for those new to machining and veterans alike. Good luck in March at the Australian GP race. I think you guys did a solid job on getting your F1 program together, now its time to take some points...

    Most innovative and beneficial thing to come to CNC in a long time. This would work on practically anything with moving parts- could be hugely beneficial for small hobbyist CNC systems.

    This is outside turning example, we tried at face turning and worked fine after several variations. It’s interesting that Haas service people we asked have no information about that and said impossible.
    We tried SSV for chip breaking while parting operation, it can be better with fine adjustments.
    Thanks for good and standard feature.

    3:40 There is conflicting information in this video. The narrator says SSV increases spindle speed by 150 rpm, then decreases by 150 rpm. So it should be back to 1500, but instead it shows 1350.

    One thing they didn't quite explain: Around 2:50 they show the spindle speed varying above and below the resonance speed, but don't explain why you wouldn't just pick a fixed spindle speed outside resonance.
    I can some of with three reasons:
    1 - The system is probably a nonlinear one, and so it will resonate at a wide range of frequencies; varying the driving frequency prevents the resonance from growing to a significant amplitude.
    2 - The resonant frequency will vary as the part is machined and so will eventually match any particular fixed spindle speed
    3 - Determining a safe spindle speed is pretty much by trial and error, resulting in many scrapped parts during test cuts

    Here in Peru Haas machines are known for having the parkinson effect, they shake even under normal cutting conditions. Chevalier machine don't have that issue. Loaded with Fanuc or Siemens controls, very rigid spindle head plus a proper machine weight and geometry we have not experienced these kind of problems.
    This SSV will work for Haas, other machines don't need it.

      Good eye Joey! It was just a simple graphics mistake, but running a tool that far off-center could actually cause the chatter that SSV fixes. Can’t decide if that’s ironic, or just unfortunate. Thanks for making us aware.

    Sir, I am working on Portal wheel lathe used for turning of Railway wheels (Make Safop) and facing issue in matching wheel profile at higher depth of cut. After profile matching with tool offset, when we make a radial cut upto 2mm we not find any issue. But when we increase the depth of cut we didn't get the required profile. May be it is related to cutting speed, spindle speed or any other factor.
    Requesting you to please help me in this matter.

  • @Max_Marz

    I think a very important point was not covered or maybe it should be assumed?
    Does the federate try to follow the spindle speed to maintain a constant surface footage?
    Would SSV be generally more or less effective if it did or did not?

    • @haasautomation
      @haasautomation  8 років тому +2

      +Max Maruszewski This is the beauty of SSV. It maintains the same Feed Per Revolution, while the spindle RPM varies up and down to keep the chatter away. Your parts will get the same consistent turning finish, as the feed does follow the spindle RPM with SSV.

    • @Max_Marz
      @Max_Marz 8 років тому +1

      +Haas Automation, Inc. So with SSV on the SFM of the tool is fluctuating.

    • @RandomNumber141
      @RandomNumber141 6 років тому +1

      Max Maruszewski The SFM is only a function of the workpiece diameter and rotational speed, so yes, it changes.

    Hi, I'm not sure if anyone (at Haas) monitors these comments but if so, I'd like to say thanks. This gave me an idea to try it on my machine. On an 840d, you can use synchronous actions to read the actual spindle and vary it by a % and time. This means it works in g96 and g97. Additionally, you can compare the actual to limit and if they are equal, the variation slides down instead of sliding up and down (moves the setpoint). In this way, there are virtually no limitations. Would this be possible to develop for your controls?

    if chatter is caused by the spindle spinning at the resonate frequency, and ssv just make the spindle spend less time in that frequency, then wouldn't increasing rpm the rpm out of that frequency and leaving it there solve the problem?

      Nix Ryu no because it will start harmonizing and it will start to vibrate again. Varying the spindle speed will keep it from vibrating alltogether.

      In Fanuc you can develop it by your self quite easy by using "real-time macro" so your old "fanuc lathe" with this option can do this.
      Siemens has this feature avalible to donwload and integrate on (almost) any Siemens controller.
      Both controllers will also adjust feed to the actual spindle speed.

      MANDELAZZA looks like an application for parametric programming if your machine doesn't have it

      Any CNC lathe with a spindle encoder that I've ever used can do this...

    My boss wouldn't be happy if I would waste so much material for testing these features.

      It wouldn't waste anything if you test it in what would normally be the rough cut, chips are chips!

    Would it be same thing when dealing with threads .

      King 713,
      We don't recommend using SSV during threading, since it can negatively affect the precision of the thread pitch.

    Zentrifugaler druck durch rotation< schneidendruck des werkzeugs=keine rattermacken am teil, man braucht kein SSV WENN MAN ERFAHRUNG UND INTERESSE AM BERUF HAT! Ausserdem vermindert man solche Umstände indem man nur bruchteile der gesamtlänge schruppt während der großteil der Welle noch einen massiven durchmesser und somit genug Stabilität besitzt, das was ihr da zeigt ist nicht effizient, ausserdem schlechte werbung wenn man zeigt das es bei WIRKLICH filigranen konturen nichts bringt xD

    I work on a TL2 with the older screen set up. I can insert the G38 code into my program to start SSV, but how do I program the speed variation and timing?

    • @haasautomation

      Setting 165 SSV Variation (RPM)
      Setting 166 SSV Cycle(.1) Sec

    I'm working on a DMG delta and an emco. I work propeller shafts for ship propulsion, which are 2-4 meters long. Material goes from 42crMo4 to high alloyed steels eg. X8CrNi18-10. never had such problems. Haas are just bad and you will hardly find in German companies.
