Brilliant Christmas Wrapping video! The wonderful animation for Channel 4 is probably my favorite Christmas ident of 2023. Very smooth. The Scottish Television ident from the early 90s has very relaxing piano music, and I could hear the drawers under the TV rumbling when the last chord played. Have a great 2024!
That's what I've noticed as well. Putting more emphasis on increasingly ramshackle streaming services rather than putting stuff out to the most people that would actually be any good.
I don't know why RTE bothered to do anything for the RTE Guide, as they practically gave up caring about Christmas television programming for 2023. I was told Christmas Day prime time was movies, their soap opera and the news headlines. Gone are the days where RTE 1 placed a lot of home produced Christmas shows into the core prime time schedules. RTE blaming their financial mess and scandals of 2023 of ruining their Christmas plans for 2023.
Merry Christmas and speedy recovery, Matthew. I’ve said it before echoing your sentiments, but I do miss the channels creating charming idents for the love of it as opposed to playing it safe for fear of going ‘off brand.’ With all due respect to Julia Donaldson, the boy’s menagerie and whoever comes up with the John Lewis adverts everyone copies a year later, but these idents will not be remembered the way the infinite pudding is nigh on 50 years later or the unwrapped present 1 is 30 years on. Just think “fuck it” and go full on festive.
Thanks for everything you do. Feel better. Merry Christmas.

This is my first year enjoying these, nice mix of contemporary and vintage idents 😊
The 1 in the BBC Scotland ident from 1986 is the fluted 1
Feel better mate. Enjoyable romp through the channels as ever
I've seen all the episodes since 2008. Keep going.
Have a good xmas, and I wish you a speedy recovery from your Van Gogh predicament ❤️🩹🎄
Hope you get better soon Matthew always look forward to your videos
All the best Matthew. Hope the ear pain goes away soon
At this point it's mostly itchy. It's the arm that's giving me the most gyp.
Happy Christmas
"Linear TV dying out" really isn't the same thing as "Linear TV actively committing suicide and signing up for Dignitas"

Been waiting for this.
I really think Channel 4's Christmas presentation was the best for Christmas 2023. They did far better than BBC One in my opinion.
Wish you a Speedy recovery van Gogh's
