The fact the venture is barely able to pass this basic test just shows the overall quality and safety of gm cars of this era. A lot of gm cars were hit or miss in terms of safety and quality, mostly misses.
@@zzoinks I have a feeling that the safety engineers for gm’s car division and trucks/suv division were completely separate. Most of gm’s sedans were improving somewhat atleast, while most of their suvs and trucks were stagnant until around 06-07.
The large front subframe did not absorb any of the impact and passed the force of the crash straight thru to the fairly weak floor of the van. Its amazing GM got away with producing unsafe junk as late as the mid 2000's.
An HIC of 864 is quite high, and what's even more interesting is that the upward steering column movement and deflection of the driver dummy off the airbag in this test is remarkably similar to the deflection of the driver off the airbag in the different, IIHS offset test. The passenger side airbag deployment characteristics are also atrocious, punching the head of that dummy; airbags should inflate up first, then out, not act as a battering ram. Dang, this is abysmal.

The passenger airbag itself has too much pressure on a low speed crash, combined with the strange massive intrusion with the dashboard
Strangely the 95 Chevy lumina was one of the few cars to get a good rating, it did better than the Volvo and a lot of luxury cars of the 90s.

@@alifrachmanzThe hood flattened and that engine had to go somewhere! ;)

Just about bought one of these as a cheap beater for my contracting business. Watched the crash test videos and thought fuck that.
What did you get instead 😅
Also applied to 1997-2004 Oldsmobille Silhouette
I think designers made this family car
Were on Drugs.
You gonna feel that :S !
Not bad for one of the worst performers in the IIHS test.
Even the 2nd gen Quest which also did very poorly in the IIHS crash test did well in the 35MPH offset test
the seatbelt is not doing its work.
That left way too much to be desired
