That 1700 years thing is just a dialogue shown in the teaser. I don't know who writes these IMDb descriptions. First mistake is it's 17000 years. And second is it's just a dialogue which says " in 17000 years of history of war and battles, only two people are remembered even today, the one who created fear and the one who destroyed fear, this man did both" and then yash entry was there in teaser. Its doesnt mean that the film has 17000 years old scenes in film.

I understand what u mean.... Basically I saw the movie in kannada... Like the dialogues and there were 2 poems in the middle... Which explained yash's character.. It was so effective in kannada.... That might not be the same if u understand the movie in subtitles... Bcz that won't be tht effective as in the original language i. e in kannada...Those dialogues and the poems literally gave me goosebumps...
And about pace of the movie.... It was so interesting that... I was inside kgf... I didn't know when the movie ended...
Kgf is one of its kind Indian flim not just a kannada or Hindi film it Should receive great response thats essential for quality of Cinema in our country

This movie's editing was awful. My eyes were hurt after watching it's fight scenes.
The editing sucked high time. I had motion sickness. It was cutting every 2 seconds like he said and eyes are not able to keep up and appreciate the frame.

That fast editing is a trap by prashant neel it feels like u missed something and makes u to watch movie again.His first ugram movie is no different introduces characters very fast that u cannot grasp all .may be its his style.
I love that style... Gone r d days where u take half an hour to introduce characters.
But ugramm had very less character comparatively hence that wasn't much of an headache but when it comes to kgf it was all over
Racer shorp cutting Editting is one of the way, it's to make the action scenes realistic. It'd very hard to shoot action scenes very realistic. So the director used a way of presenting in a diff way so that people feels realistic. There is no trap

I'm from Karnataka, a Kannadiga and I watched this movie first-day, first show @4am and what u said about the over-stylized fast editing style, I 100% agree with you.
We also felt the same thing. I hope it's not the same case in chapter 2.
I hope they'll give us a couple more seconds to appreciate a scene.
But having said that I don't think it really mattered for most of the audience coz everything else was so ammazingly setup that the audience connected with the movie instantly and the production quality was at a never seen before standard so it's already a blockbuster here.
More power to the Director and the Team. This already is a Gamechanger for our Kannada film Industry and I'm sooo happy it is coz i'm sure we are capable of much more.
Jaby in climax they gave hint that he is not actually man of people rather they showed that he might have actually used people to win kgf but still it's still unsure that has to to seen in chapter 2 u might have missed that watch again to understand bit more bkz story is too fast so u might have missed it .
Even i thought that...He might have been bit sympathetic towards those people when he witnesses the pathetic life of them but he is still in the mindset to conquer the world where he might have used them to achieve it or he may even compromise with that aspect to get what he wants i.e Power.
This might be a way to have part 2 interesting and it makes way for more non-linear story line

Yash has said that in an interview to a tv channel i believe. Don't blink or you might miss out... Even though you go with friends or family, you gotta be watching the film and not talking to them or checking messages. Even then its fine as long as people are watching the movie in theatres. 😜

For me, Tumbadd is a complete package, be it performances, screenplay n editing, BGM, cinematography, direction, fresh concept( blend of horror with mythology). Everything was just awesome and it stirs ur soul with a strong message. Tumbadd for me is an Art alive. Best movie of the year. Poor me who cdnt watch it in theatre kyunki meri fat rahi thi. Didn't know that it's not usual horror flick. It shd b sent for Oscar this year.

As a editor myself, I too felt the editing was not up to the mark! It was too fast to appreciate the aesthetic of the shots! The cinematography and background score was fabulous and even on par with Hollywood!

It's not about liking what jaby likes. It's about his honest reviews which help us analyse if we must be spending our money on watching movies in the theatre. He isn't like most Indian film reviewers / critics because let's be honest, most of them can easily be bought with money lol. Whereas jaby is an outsider who has been consistent with his work online.

This Kannada movie has 1 drawback which is build up (it should've reduced)other than that it's RAW, not much VFX, realistic, no illogical meaningless or against theory of relativity or laws of gravity scenes just like in your all telugu movies.. Director's vision to explain the story in various other perspective, for you it may take time to understand bcuz I understand the genre of Telugu movies.. but watch it again.. in each cut he explains about a scenario from various mouth.. all you need is to connect the dots. It's an amazing editing it's fast but it is smart way to explain in Short span. Watch uggram it should be a good starter

KGF team had released a teaser long back which said that wars have been happening since 17000 years and there have been always two types of people, one who instilled fear and one who killed the fear and this man (protogonist) did both. Some took that as this movie takes history from 17000 years.

I liked the story, how well constructed the non linear aspect was, and the editing just perfectly complimented that and well as the direction IMO. It didn't feel chopped up to me, the result felt on point and quite artistic.

The film was amazing... Unlike anything that i have seen in Indian film Industry...Kinda like another epic after Baahubali...The film editing was great which is the reason why i was hooked to the film from start till the end...I watched this film in theatres in Hindi dubbed and the occupancy was medium...The sound effects and the score was on the next level...(In hindi dubbed version, there's sultan song whereas in kannada version its dheera which i prefer)..The climax was amazing and i swear the end scene was so lit that instead of whistles and cheers, there was a complete silence as if the people couldn't believe the epic end...No one thought it would be so huge but believe me it was an amazing memory...The only indian movie i am eagerly waiting in 2020 is KGF Chapter 2

Hey Jaby! The editing, especially with the fight scenes is done so fast is because here in India you cannot show a lot of bloodshed. If you do, then the movie will be given "A" certificate, like the R-Rated movie in your country... And the team didn't wanted that, they wanted everyone to watch it, even the kids... So that's what I feel

Jaby's most valid point is : overuse of fast paced cutting scene every 2 seconds. Seems like editor used 4 times more small length scene than usual.

The darkness, action, story, logics, social differences and hunger for power in the movie is beyond perfection... Simply wow ...

I felt completely opposite of what Jaby thought about editing. We south Indians were habituated to slow motion shots. The movie didn't have many slo mos. So I kinda thought it was intentionally done to stand out.

Hi Jaby did you view the Hindi version. I saw the Kannada version it was abt 2:35 mins long . Same fast editing but the subtitles made more sense and brought a better understanding of the plot of the movie. Was looking at the Hindi version at first but switch to the original language was way better

Even though I like all you reviews for some reason I was not viewing your reaction videos for quite some time (I apologized), so I came back to this reaction video and liked it instantly. I agree one hundred % - its 3 and a half stars movie. Spot-on Jaby!! Editing could have been better and I feel that with the kind of storyline they have, it can be a 3 part movie rather than 4.

Jaby, regarding editing, if I can share my 2 cents,
Psycologically, when you are focused, hooked, your sense perception and mind works at peak. You hear best, you see best, and mind process info faster and be ready for the next piece of information. If new information is not provided at the pace mind is looking at, mind would wander and be let off the hook. Director, since its a action thriller, wants you revved up with his story. Probably, if same director, makes romantic or comedy movie, he might follow different style of editing.
I personally loved the fast pace. Wudn give d same rush if it was even a bit slower
for any indian who want to drown and involved in movie, editing helps, but as foreigner who want sit and watch movie go by, it hurts, as Jaby did. Absolutely nothing wrong with editing.

The previous movie of Prashanth Neel was Ugramm. The fast paced edits was introduced in Indian cinema in that movie and fast paced music complemented it. And surprisingly, that experiment in that movie was received extremely well by the audience. And that made Prashant Neely's directorial style.
So, even in this movie, he has followed the same style.
If possible, do watch Ugramm.
And it is easier to follow if you could have watched in the original language.
Appreciate your effort to understand as much as possible.

Thanks Jaby for your honest review. Yes this film has quick edits,as per movie team they had 80000 frames for this movie, it's Prashanth neel's signature style editing keep you engage every second on screen. This script could make another 2 movies , has that much content.
You r right it's good movie but editing is bad infact I didn't understand some scenes
So true man!! You have just said exactly how I felt about film , it's a great movie but editing was so rushed up, cut and cut and cut.. Movie just starts, lot of story is happening and transition between scenes were so sharp with blacked out screen in between till the end . I was having hard time to breathe through scenes. It would get perfect film rating otherwise for its great attempt. Hope the transition between scenes were a bit smooth to appreciate the feel of the frame or scene,( especially the last 20 minutes which was epic storytelling)

Actually the thing is that the director likes fast editing bcz the same style of editing can be seen in his previous movie.... That's his style

I'm from Mumbai this movie has really raised expectations from kanada film industry I support regional language movies getting the recognition which is deserved {support Marathi film industry}
