Hey ZM, I used to do a bit of wheeling in remotes like that. I once found a 55/56 Buick that had been abandoned many years ago. It was in excellent shape with the exception of one head missing. I mean glass and everything was intact. The last time I saw it it was flipped over, all the glass broken and shot full of holes. I don't blame you for not wanting to disclose the location. Sometimes I have a great disdain for people. 😞

Great video. The Ruins that you are seeing are from an old outpost used during the construction of the Death Valley railroad system. If you follow the old railroad embankment you will find a few more of these, along with a few old bridge sites that have been dismantled or washed out. Much of the railroad embankment has been washed away since they crossed multiple large washes and low lying areas. It was constructed in the early 1900s finishing around 1908. The railroad was for the transportation of Borax. If you travel the length of it you will find a handful of grave sites. None of them marked anymore because of the harsh conditions. The mine was shut down in 1928 but the railroad operated for a couple more years for tourism but was was completely gone by 1930.

It was very nostalgic & the old places were struggling some, but were still going concerns, run by quirky, good people. 've driven that route many times a lot of them are gone now. People don't motor the country for entertainment like they used to, stopping for the unique local attractions. That used to be half the point!
I don't know, there are so many ways to cut the end of a can off & eat out of it. I think humans have a need to make things their own, put their own stamp on their surroundings. Even if it's just a tin can. "I was here"
This was a RR camp built when they ran a narrow-gauge "Death Valley RR" spur off the Tonopah & Tidewater mainline in 1914. It was used for transporting Borax from the mines to the T&T RR at Death Valley Junction, the line closed in 1931.
Curious find, from what I saw that does not look like the Death Valley RR that ran between Death Valley Junction and New Ryan. However, there are structures along the DVRR that resemble the ones in the video.
Absolutely fascinating! I wished this video kept going on and on. Thank you very much. I recently read the story of a woman who researched her great grand dad immigrating to California at 19 years of age, from China. He worked for a rail way developer and hoped to earn enough for his young family to support. With all devastation, I shutter to say he did not.

This is a great video. I love planes, cameras, and Death Valley. Been there over 15 times/50 days maybe. The clarity of your video was fantastic, and makes me want to go back to Death Valley to look for old Uncle Bills Mines again.
Great video. I've done a lot of desert exploring in Arizona/California/New Mexico and I appreciate the fact that you left things like there are and were. It is difficult to find untouched sites. Looks as if flying is the way to go .... wish I could do that.

I enjoyed your video. My dad used to have all sorts of airplanes when I was growing up in my childhood, tail draggers: Piper Cubs, a Clipper, and a few other types. He took me to Death Valley quite a few times in his airplanes, and we would land somewhere and camp under the wing.

Amazing video and festinating story. I wonder where the camp got their water? In regards to some of the cans that had been cut and reminded me of the C rations that we ate while in Vietnam . We would take the empty cans and make cooking stoves and cups to drink with. You use your P38 (can opener) to cut holes in the cans for venting and take some C4 and roll into a ball and turn the can upside down and it made a great stove to heat your C ration. You used C4 to COOK with? I wouldn't have thought that possible; very interesting. Thanks for serving our country. You got the short end of the stick, but I respect your difficult sacrifice.
Thank you for your comment. C4 is an explosive and needs a blasting cap to make it go off or explode. We would break off or cut off a piece C4 and roll into a ball and light it with a match. It would burn hot and we would use to heat our food or make coffee, you learn to be resourceful. Tk you @@hensonlaura

A lot of hikers build the same old style of windbreaks because the design works. I was literally watching this guy talk about building a windbreak in Alaska and then not even having to because there was 2 already built up ahead. I've seen enough ticktocks and "dead people found" tales to know people like to wander the literal wilderness sometimes. lol.

I can spend hours on Google Earth following abandoned railroad grades and looking for ruins of past buildings and compounds. Wish I could decide to just land and explore them on foot like you did!

Death Valley is a beautiful place to visit. We made a two day stop there in 2022 to see it for ourselves, picture don’t do it justice. We hope to go back again to do some hiking. Thanks for the video!

In early 90s in August drove the "Camino El Diablo" east of Yuma,AZ. Saw many unmarked gravesites from the mid 1800s.

Death Valley is a beautiful place to visit. We made a two day stop there in 2022 to see it for ourselves, picture don’t do it justice. We hope to go back again to do some hiking.
