I just got a ride in red nose last July Also with Barry. ABSOLUTELY THRILLING... Thank you Barry and airbase Georgia. One of top 3 on my bucket list. WOW !!!
"To Fly and Fight: Memoirs of a Triple Ace" is one of the best books I have ever read!!! You are so fortunate to have flown in this legendary warbird. Thank you for sharing.
When I was a kid in the early 60's At the EAA fly-ins, a ride in a P-51 was you pay for the fuel. A 15 minute ride was around $50.00! A ride in the Ford Tri-Motor was $3.00! I truly miss the good old days! We did not have as much stuff but we truly had more!
Great video. My dad was the builder of Dego Red and Strega. There were a few others he and his crew did some mods on. I did fly as passenger in a stock mustang in my early days of high school early 80s. I miss being around the mustangs especially strega. Take care and thank you
Hey Chris, I work on the P-51 Mustang you flew in, I volunteer with CAF airbase GA, and that is where the Mustang is located! I work on it 3 times a weak.
You must know then that it was featured in the new film Fly Me To The Moon. I really enjoyed the movie and especially the P-51D. Have a great Independence Day!!!
Do you know why they added the red stripes of the US Air Force to the WW2 insignia for the movie? Otherwise, it looks the same as here. I would love any details regarding its history, if you might offer them. Back in 1986, I had a chance to ride in one but couldn’t afford it. It was with the B-17G Sentimental Journey when it visited my town in Washington state. I chatted with the volunteers and when I mentioned the Bomber Gas station in Oregon they told me they traded work on it to acquire the real .50 cals and the top turret. Now, that B-17 is being restored.
Chris, That is awesome that you got to experience that. Definitely a bucket list item. Hope the weather straightens up for you up there. I am not fairing any better here in the UP of Michigan though. Had an extremely mild winter but now will not let go and let us have spring.
Thanks so much for posting this Chris! Had my heart racing the whole time. I was fortunate enough to ride in "North American Maid", I believe it is "Mad Max" now back around '96. Definitely an experience of a lifetime! Thank you for stirring all those memories!!
I have always wanted to do this!! My favorite WWII fighter!! Got to see the last Reno Air Races with them but would SO LOVE to get the opportunity to fly one!!!
How awesome for you!! I was able to purchase a flight in Ridge Runner out of Hollister for my dad. It was a once in a lifetime for most. Definitely on my bucket list!
Hey Chris, great experience. Thanks for sharing. My son and I met you last year at the AK Airman’s show. Just wanted to let you know that he is now serving in Las Vegas Spanish speaking. Flying will have to go on hold for a couple years.
You mentioned your friend that got to fly in the B-25 through CAF. This is the plane my grandpa flew in the South Pacific in WWII and I've always always wanted to ride in one. I noticed that wasn't on the list of aircraft at CAF. Do you have more info on the B-25 specifically on how one could book a ride in one?
I maidened my 1.5 meter (59") E-flite P-51D two days ago and made two more flights with it yesterday. That's as close as I'll ever get to the real thing.. 😎
I watched an early screening of Fly Me To The Moon today and THIS P-51D is featured prominently in it. Interestingly, they added the horizontal red stripes of the US Air Force instead of how it was here in a WW2 US Army Air Force insignia. Otherwise, it looks the same. I do highly recommend the movie.
pictures after you got out are the best. 12:39 what's this voice? sounds like it's saying "nothin' nothin' nothin'", I think maybe it's the AI voice enhancement stuff?

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I also managed to fly in a Spitfire for my 80th birthday, it even counted as my biennial flight review.

Welcome to my home state of Wisconsin!! 😊
I love it!

The P 51 was last used in Vietnam. As a combat aircraft and they still perform well.
I spotted Heber UT airport
Sweeeeeet!!!!!!
Love seeing these! What is the brand and model of phone case you have? The one with orange button
Nomad Rugged Case I think.

And in the credits, the pilot was credited as Stan Musick, whom I believe was killed back in 2005.

What is the landing speed on the P-51?
I was trying on exactly this P51 back in 2019 at Falcon Field/GA - they didn´t let me fly - I didn´t even find the "key"!
Bro I’m so jealous. Also I met your brother at a Starbucks in Utah, small world, good dude 👍🏼
Wait seriously?
@@angleofattack yeah seriously lol. A few weeks ago I mentioned I was working on my CFI and he asked if I followed you.
