- I hate tent camping so Scott decided we needed to try out hammock camping, but we would need a hammock stand. Unfortunately, many state and national parks do not allow you to attach your hammock to trees. Plus there are many parks that do not have any trees to attach your hammock to. So, what are we supposed to do?
Scott found hammock stands at a big box outdoor store but did not like the price so he decided to find out how to build some. He found the Turtledog Hammock Stand plans and proceeded to try one out. It worked out so well, he made a second one. Watch our video today and see just how easy it was!

Cross County Travelers my brother in law is the handy guy helping me make it for my birthday. Trying for a lighter solution and see how it goes. He does magic and ok I'm excited.
Oh, now I definitely want photos! We have been trying to decide how we want to make it lighter ourselves. We needed something quick for last weekend and that was the best solution for us. Definitely let us know what you come up with!
Nice solution with the end caps. Most of the designs I've seen use an S-hook hanging from the hinge supporting the top rail with a drilled eye bolt. You kind of skipped over his you used the paracord to hang your top rail.
Hadn't realized we had. We are planning on making some more for the grands so maybe we should remake the video too. Thanks for letting us know.
That is actually called a surgeons knot
put some ceramic tiles on each tripod ends as leg plate
I built one of these. It flips over constantly. Any swinging and the tripods walk until flop. It's been repurposed.

We had no issues. Did you have the legs wide enough apart?
Will a SMR Nubë work on this style stand?
I am not familiar with this shelter and can't really tell by looking at pictures on the web page. My feeling is it could be made to work, but might require some modifications.
