The light is divine, the location Tassie-gorgeous, the history is fascinating and the soundtrack and videography spot on. Great vid Levi, loved this one!
That was awesome Levi! Osmiridium is actually an alloy of two platinum group metals. There are six metals in this family of "sisters." Osmium is one and iridium the other in this natural alloy. Osmium when heated in air will oxidize rather quickly, and form scales on your eyes. Of the six platinum group metals osmium is the most reactive. Because of this it is the least expensive of the six. The six elements in order of rarity are palladium, platinum, iridium, osmium, ruthenium, and the rarest of all is rhodium. Old platinum rings often had 10% iridium added to it to harden the platinum; they say. I however believe they put it in there because of cost. Course i'm skeptical about everything anymore. I've dealt with all the PGM's in assays except osmiridium. One thing i noticed and you mentioned was the orange colored pieces. I have some thoughts on that also. Almost always when you find one, you'll find them all. As natural alloys of all the metals are frequently found throughout the world they form different colors. One found in Mexico was a gold and rhodium alloy imparting a purple tinge to the gold. Anyway have always been fascinated with the PGM's. Be safe hope to see you next week.🙂
Oddly Osmiridium contains a higher proportion of Iridium, whereas, Iridosmine contains higher amounts of Osmium making it confusing as usually something named has a higher percentange as the first word of it. As PGMs are never found alone and will contain even micro percentages of all of them. There are many natural alloys of PGMs and the percentages of the metals vary from location to location. As pointed out in the book "The Analytical Chemistry of the Platinum Group Metals and their Assciated Base Metals" there are many more Minerals with the PGMs having base metals and the metalloids arsenic, bismuth, antimony, selinium and tellurium that are normally in the PGM alloys too. Both Osmium and Ruthenium create the tetra-oxides that are considered highly poisonous if inhaled. Osmium and Ruthenium are more grayish-silver than Palladium and Platinum, whereas Rhodium has a reddish-silver tint and Iridium has the rainbow like shimmering of oil film on water, so alloys can have variations of colors/hues and reflections. It should be needless to say it at this point, but, you should never heat minerals nor alloys expected to have Osmium, Ruthenium or Arsenic...etc...without proper ventilation and PPE. It should also be noted that since their is Gold found in the same location that it may have those PGMs and the PGMs may have alloys with Gold in them. With Iridium at US$520.00 a troy ounce and Osmium at US$400.00 a troy ounce, it could be a worth while venture to use the more modern placer methods we now have, than they used in the early 1900s. Although I'm not aware of the legal claiming there, my being in Arizona, USA. I understand that it cost's quite a bit to work claims in Australia.
@@johnchism9625 A fellow Arizonian. Colorado river valley myself. Or as some like to say "west coast" of Arizona. I've actually got some experience with rhodium and iridium as in jewelry, but not native or as an alloy found naturally. I found palladium in ore that for years the miners were lead to believe was silver. Assayed for and found both palladium and platinum in several mining districts in the SW U.S. Thanks for sharing your information.
but what can yo udo with Osmiridium. maybe i gonna find some too.. i only see 400buks for 30grams sounds not bad. but would alos like to know what you can do with it

It is such a good feeling to go into beautiful spots especially with history and find small treasures to take away as a souvenir like a child on a treasure hunt or living those childhood fantasies I am very fortunate cheers Paul
Love that little island.. amazing how the old timers landscaped it & that it’s still there! Thanks for taking us.. awesome video & love the music… so calming 💚
This one had a very different feel to it. Subdued, deep almost sad. Always impressed with the amount of work that you put in. Great Job Levi. This channel never disappoints.
Cool organ music 🎶 intro..fascinating history 🖤 Held my breath, glad you didn’t cross that log!!! 3deg balmy 🥶🥶🥶 Could be on house & garden so beautiful.., & the cave 🥰

Whoaa!!...that mission was even heavier than the osmoridium itself...epic journey in and even more so out! What will you not do to educate and entertain??? Thankyou Levi...so good 👍
So amazing to see the history of hard work that the Old Timers created, just to survive. It looks untouched and I can't believe it's lasted this long! Awesome video Levi❣️
Epic adventure Levi. Really like the history lesson along the way. Very beautiful place, crazy how thick it got on the way out. Stay safe out there. Thanks for the quality videos you produce.
Levi, what's awesome about when you and all the other prospectors that go out in the bush are the amazing sites that you show your views, so beautiful and memorizing. It's truly amazing what is out in the bush that most people never see or ever know it's out there. Also, the history that goes along with what you show us fascinating. The Osmiridium is cool. Wonderful video, keep up the great work.
!!Nice!! So try this mate. I'm in the California motherland and heaps and heaps and piles black sand it's standard. My little trick is to put it in the bottom of a vial and then take your snuffer bottle full of water and gently but firmly wash the black sand up and out of the vial. You can use the tip of the vial to stir and get virtually all of it out of there. Sometimes micro flakes will float up also but do it over a pan and just suck them up. Works great and is really pretty quick. Thanks for the videos they're really cool and so is the area that you're in. Almost like a prehistoric rainforest! How cool is that!!
Estas belas paisagens e o fundo musical nos transporta pra estes lugares. Gratidão Levy por compartilhar estes tesouros conosco. Greatings from Brazil!!
Amazing history and all still there to see, unbelievably the rock-walled races still standing. Love your work as always, also the music is on point with this one! :). Thanks Levi.
Another beautiful video, Levi. The music is perfect and sounds amazing in the background of the vid, buddy. Those old timers put in a ton of back breaking work with those walls and canals. BTW you have an amazingly supportive wife. A true Blessing.

That was an interesting adventure buddy, loved all those rock stacked canals, look like they were only done a few years ago, amazing they've mostly stood up to the elements for so long. Very intriguing mineral.
G’day Levi Great to see you again out prospecting. Awesome spot you went back to again, after going there with Rob Parsons. I really enjoyed watching and especially the “struggling” 700 m up hill bush you went through. Some the country down there in Tasmania sure is challenging. Thanks again and take care. Andy
