  • If you love cabbage rolls then you will love our STUFFED CABBAGE RAVIOLI. It is a spin on Grandma Bessie's traditional cabbage rolls recipe. In this recipe, cabbage is sauteed and cooked with onions, mushrooms, garlic, pork, spices and topped with tomato sauce. The best part is you don't have to make your own pasta. This recipe saves time by substituting wonton wrappers for pasta.

    STUFFED CABBAGE RAVIOLI
    nonstick spray
    olive oil
    1/2 large onion, finely chopped
    1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
    4 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground pork (or ground beef)
    1/2 Tbsp granulated garlic
    1 tsp Creole seasoning
    1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
    1/8 cup tomato paste
1/2 large head of cabbage, chopped into small pieces
    1/4 cup rice, cooked
2 green onions, sliced and roughly chopped
1/8 cup parsley, chopped, plus more for garnish
    8 cups water
    1 (12-ounce) package wonton wrappers
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    your favorite marinara sauce, warmed
    1. Over medium heat, spray a large skillet with nonstick spray and coat it with olive oil. Add onions and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add mushrooms and garlic. Combine and cook 1 minute.
    2. Add pork (or ground beef). Cook while mashing with a potato masher until meat crumbles and fully combines with vegetables, 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in dried spices, combine and cook around 5 minutes.
    3. Stir in tomato paste and cabbage. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cook until cabbage softens, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool. Stir in rice, green onions and parsley.
    4. Add 8 cups water to a large pot and bring it to a boil. To make ravioli: Place wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Moisten the edge of wrapper with egg wash. Place 1/2 - 1 Tbsp cabbage filling in center of wrapper. Fold in half, bringing the corners of wrapper together. Press edges firmly to seal.
    5. Cook cabbage dumplings in batches by placing them in boiling water for 3 minutes or until wrapper is fully cooked, carefully flipping halfway through. Remove ravioli with a slotted spoon and set aside on a wire baking rack and tent with foil to keep warm. Repeat with remaining ravioli.
    6. Add ravioli to warmed marinara sauce. Toss gently to coat. Garnish with parsley.
    NOTES
    1. To freeze and eat later: Place stuffed, sealed and uncooked ravioli dumplings individually on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Place in freezer until frozen then place in a gallon-sized freezer storage bag. Label bag with date and fill with frozen raviolis. Place in freezer. When ready to eat, place ravioli in boiling water and cook 6 - 8 minutes. Top with warmed marinara sauce.
