  • In this grasshopper tutorial, I will show you how you can use the 4point surface tool to fold a surface inspired by the al bahar towers facade mechanism. First, we will study the techniques we can use to model the module and then we will make it parametric with grasshopper.
    Download the example at:

Many tutorial vedio makers they just good at the software, but poor at explaination. But you are good at both, the vedio is amzing!! thank you!

Thank yo so much for such amazing tutorial !. I just have a question about how to duplicate the unite as shown in the video poster and the real life building as well as the how to add the attractor ? Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I want to find an easier solution
The centre point goes upward and the middle points go inside but the length is uniqe
So there is a 3anglar shape with a 90 angle, so we are able to use Pythagoras formul for it
The distance which is used in z vector for the center point , also used in cot u vector in moveing
    Am I right?
I used the line of connecting centre and middles as vectors but i dont know how add the math order

How can we show the movement of that kinetic shading device in walk through video ?

I don't really know about anim. Softwares but you can animate the number slider

Thanks for spreading the knowledge, how could we apply this pattern or any other to a custom surface? sometimes map to surface does not work very well. If you could guide us or make a tutorial about it, it would be great!

You cant produce any surface with equilateral triangles. You have to use kangaroo to form find the results or use sine/cosine equations to aproximate a surface with one curvature

Hi, thank you for the great tutorial! Is there a way I can apply this on an existing building I've created on rhino that isn't made up of flat surfaces? I have a round/organic type of building with a lot of curves and I'm having difficulty applying the kinetic facade onto it. Thank you!

You can put it inside a bounding box then morph them on the surface of your building, just make sure to hide all its geometry to no crash your pc

Hi, I've tried to reproduce it with some length I've studied with a piece of sheet that tries to reproduce this move. I created the lines directly on Grasshopper, but when I intersect the sphere with the Circle, it gives me just the point that I don't need and not the closest one. Do you know which could be the problem?

    • @ParametricHouse
      @ParametricHouse  5 років тому

I guess this happens when you give a 0 degree to the rotation. Try starting with a small number like 0.1 and see if it helps. You can also sort the points based on z coordinates and pick the first one

I did it ✌️ but I saw another problem.. Do your triangles after the "polar array" touch? Mine not 🤷‍♀️. It's millimetric, but don't you know how to unite the triangles' final points?

it didn't work for me at all. first issue that I had was @7:01 point on curve , when the x point was set to max the point was in center. second issue was @13:30 brepjoin I coudn't join the surface and geometry, it only allow one of them to connect but not two of them. Three, as the result mine, triangles didn't even meet in the center. :(
