If you have a automatic sprinkler system - YOU NEED THIS TOOL. For years I procrastinated replacing my broken sprinkler heads - Now I'm a sprinkler head replacement master. Right tool...right job. - Навчання та стиль
Super helpful video!! We just bought our first home where most of the sprinklers need replaced and I had no clue how to do it. Your video and that tool were fabulous! Thank you!
Congrats on the new home - this is a useful tool to have - I think I got it on Amazon
What a great tool. I've never heard about it until your video. My replacement method has been digging around the body, then unscrewing the body. I'll get the tool to help when I need to replace sprinkler bodies. Your video was short and to the point, which is great. And thanks for showing the mechanics of the tool first, before using it in the ground.
Glad you found it helpful
If you get dirt and sediment in the line you might install the guts without the strainer and nozzle. Then flush the line out under pressure. Then re-install the strainer and nozzle.
Great video. Thaks!!
Thanks mate - glad it helped
Thanks for sharing. I have some heads that are leaking and the contractor wanted too much money. I will at least give your recommendation a try.
Great to save a few bucks
Will this work if you have a riser attached?
What if u need to put an extension? Or the sprinkler has an existing extension?
very cool
many times old sprinklers will spin when trying to remove the top so not sure about this?
it may be good if you can get the top of the sprinkler unscrewed sometimes you unscrew the whole thing and if you know what kind of sprinkler is in the ground some are thicker then others so if you remove a orbit to install a rainbird the rainbird will be thicker and hope you get no dirt in or break of the elbow then you are digging aney way
I did 10 heads using this tools without a hitch...
I do appreciate your effort and the video quality is good. But what if the head is on a 6-inch riser?. And you don't have to dig a quote-unquote giant hole. I use a 3 in trenching shovel. It's pretty surgical. You need to dig it just big enough to hold the nipple down below if it starts coming off. Or the body if it immediately starts coming off with the bonnet. And again last chance of debris going in the fittings. And no flushing necessary
Why replace the whole body if only the sprinkler head was damaged?
Did you put in a different brand?
(i.e. different threads or diameter)
often the body gets damaged as well - mower strike
Underhill Easy Out Quick Fix. Fits all major brand, 2" to 6," pop-up sprinkler heads.
That's the one
Not intended for rotary sprinklers. I was just about to order one on amazon too. Luckily I read the description.
Good catch
Based on the size and fit would it be able to remove Hunter I20 heads and spray heads?
Nope...but try this one instead. Contact me if you want 1 : ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=iEiS0onDS1E
@@Kitearmy the link no longer works, if you used a different product can you post the name of the product? Thanks
Hi, previously licensed irrigator here #21117 and current irrigation tech. Best way to do it is to just dig it up with spade shovel.. take like 10 seconds
For Joe home owner this is really simple to use
It looks a lot cleaner and professional using this tool.
@@OliverKlohzov no it doesn't. And try it in an area with heavy roots see how well it leaves the area looking.
Why not just leave the body in and replace the broken core you just unscrewed? Also Can't protect the line from getting dirt and mud in it if you screw the body in down a blind hole. Then you have a plugged sprinkler head. 😕👎
If it gets wacked by a mower - body will be broken
@@Kitearmy sometimes
Do you need to protect from getting dirt and mud in it, can’t you just remove the nozzle after install and blow it all out using water?
That's doable if the assembly is still available. For really old systems, the assemblies become obsolete, and the new head assemblies often don't work with the old body so you have to replace the whole head assembly.
my sprinklers are a combo of large ones, short ones, some screw directly into the pipe, some have a 90 degree adapter. will this work for all setups?
I replace the nozzle but no water comes out of the nozzle if I take the nozzle off and turn the wear on I get a hefty stream but put the nozzle on it acts like a plug any ideas?
Did you open the nozzle up? Watch the video again, you will see that I have to open the head to get it to work.
Dig out about 2” around the head, not to deep, pull out the grass, pour a little water around the head, then remove the whole body, simple
that works too
2 tools is double the work. Dig out around the unit and attach your wrench to the canister instead of the top.
I have used a pole hole digger around the head - worked ok
I was going to try it today, but the problem is the cap is gone, and the inside is full of dirt, so I don't think I can get the tool down the inside. Might have to do the old digging method again on this one.
Why not just turn on the sprinkler for a few secs without the internals and blow out all the dirt?
Why don’t you have a link in the description?
Make sure you watch this first: ua-cam.com/video/iEiS0onDS1E/v-deo.html
Depending on my repair, I just pull the broken internal parts out and replace with new same brand and model internal parts leaving the body in the ground. I have buy the whole replacement, but no special tool needed.
If your lucky and the body is not damaged - absolutely the best way to get the job done.
ev767a or if the nozzle is broken, just pull up the nozzle
You need to blow out the line before you attach the heads to get rid of any crap that may have fell in.
Great tip
Just use a simple wooden dowel (6-8"). Pull the cap and internals, insert dowel and remove body. Then replace with new disassembled head. Sometimes innovation equals complication.😎
I have a big question what type of sprinkler nozzle is that
Orbit
Nice video of the back of his arm and hand. Have no idea how the tool works.
Sorry for that - I was new when I made this
I ordered one of these, found out they come in two sizes. I would order the bigger one. I couldnt use the one I got it was to short to go in the holes. FYI folks two sizes
That is right...thanks
Looks cool but I think I rather just dig around it 🤷♂️ it's much cleaner for the filter.
Fair enough!
Pretty fiddly, just dig it up, those couplings and funny pipe below grade can always use a check .
I have used mine about 6 times now - I think it only did not work once. So all in all saved me a bunch of time
Just dig the whole darn head out. It only takes 60 seconds. And you won't get dirt back in the fittings.
That works too
I like the tool. Why not put a link to it? Also you did not show the tool name in your video
Funny - I never noticed that I did not show the tool in the video

There is another simpler tool to remove the whole body. It has a pointed end with blades at the bottom that grip the bottom of the body. then turn the handle to remove the body. Made of steel not cheap plastic. works like an automotive broken bolt easy out.
I review a metal tool too - not sure that is what you mean?
What is the name of that tool?
The Gardners keep breaking the nipple that goes into the under ground upside down T I’ve been lucky so far because they didn’t break the underground upside down Tee they keep breaking off the nipple that goes into the upside down tee and sprinkler head, so I have to dig down and remove the nipple from the sprinkler head and the upside down tee that broke off and replace it with a new one all the time. I don’t think that tool will help me in any way. Do I not have the doughnuts in the right height, should I put them even with the soil ???...or above the soil. The Gardners when cutting the grass keep spinning the rider mower like a whip and that’s how they keep moving the doughnuts and breaking the nipple off !!! 😩
I'm surprised you are having that problem with the doughnuts. I would try to lower the head a bit.
Kite Army thanks for getting back to me, in order to lower the head, I’m using a 1” shortest nipple I can. Just one other thought, should the doughnuts be hidden __ and level with the head and the soil or should the doughnuts lie on top - of the soil ??? Example __ or -
Why not just leave the old body connected to the coupling. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with it. Just screw the new working parts into it.
Sometime the bodies get damaged from lawn mower strikes
You might need to raise it
with the threaded rod - this helps with that process
That’s a big yard. Replace the system with hunter rotors and you won’t be touching it for a whilleeeee. At least use hunter prosprays. They last forever
Oh and put them on funny pipe so they’re shock resistant
I hear the Hunter heads are good. Thanks for comment
Business 😁👍
it doesn't work with hunter PGP. that makes it useless.
Why would it not work with that model?
Hell no, gimme a shovel Andrew. No like from me.
That's so old school - how about dynamite? lol
Yep you'll need dynamite to blow out all the crap you're gonna get in the lines.
I had a clean install - no crap in lines
Your using your channel locks backwards
Right
Or you could have just replaced the top and what about if the body is bigger
They have to match - as you said sometimes you don't need to replace the body, just the pop up
like also please send me one.
like yeah
Sounds like an ok tool, but lacks debris cleanliness. I usually just use a garden spade to dig around the head, unscrew the body and riser, leaks are usually in the riser itself. Plug up the open pipe with a little paper towel so debris won't collapse back in. Get the new riser and head in position make sure its at ground level, pull the paper towel out, screw everything back down, unsrew the head from the body and using a wetvac, suck out any debris that may have entered the system... water will flush through. Install cap back and point it in the right direction. Turn on the system... works like a charm everytime. No crap will remain to clog the head's filter. 😎
Can't argue with that
Westley Karcher
K
Westley Karcher thanks I learned from your advice sir.
Why wet vac if you can just remove the nozzle and blast all the debris out with water from the sprinkler line?
@@jimmatulis8020 I tried that many times in the past and my older Toro heads are very sensitive to the smallest amount of dirt particles and i noticed after blasting water through the head that it didn't remove all of the debris. The heads further down the line would get clogged where the blasting water would push the dirt back on the low pressure side. When i used the wet vac method it "pulled" the water from both the low and high side taking all debris along the way. After doing my repairs this way all of my older gear driven Toro heads never jammed again. The newer heads have a better filter than the older style Toro heads. I would rather have no debris remain than some being filtered somewhere down the line...
like please send me one.
like OK
Biggest mistake was using orbit products lmao
I have learned my leason
Orbit has copied hunter
This item is not available
I will check the link
I’d rather dig around. Seems like more work your way
maybe - I like this way though
I just call PEDRO the sprinkler guy. EZ CHEEZY
Pedro comes to my house too.
Just replace the nozzle
Yeah - but sometimes the barrels are damaged
That ain't true
@@ScantPear Strange I had a bunch of broken barrels - but if you say I didn't, I guess I didn't
Kite Army buy hunter
@@ScantPear hunter is good
Could have just replaced the nozzle
right
Or he could have re adjusted the nozzle
Just replace the nozzle and orbit products suck they are a shitty copy of fucking hunter
that's some very strong opinions of water sprinklers
I just use a 1/2” wooden dowel, and my hands, and does a great job, for.... $2.50 for the dowel.
:)
Xtrax tool works better ..works on all types sprinkler head including rotors and on all brands , it's made of stainless steel ...check out the demo yourself ...xtrax tool demo
Hey Daniel - give KiteArmy a crack at it - contact me at kitearmy@gmail.com
Just wondering when you are going to Demo the xtrax tool...any idea when
That's a question only mother nature can answer. I have a foot of fresh snow in my backyard right now. What specific questions do you have about the xtrax?
No questions ... Just wondering, I completely forgot that it snowed where you lived...wish we could get some of that white stuff over here , we have had a dry winter and we so need the moisture, I have subscribed to your site and enjoy all the Demos you do ...keep up the good work
Yeah mother nature has been a beast this year :) Thanks for the support - Xtrax review on it's way
Jesus Christ you have time on your hands I'm reading through the comments and you replied to all of them
nothing but time
That is called dedication to his viewers, my friend
You still didn’t raise it to the proper height
nope - works fine
Waste of effort. Once you popped off the top cap and removed the internals, just insert the internals from the new sprinkler. Why even remove the sprinkler body - there wasn't anything wrong with it and you take the risk that mud or debris will fall into the hole and then you cant get the new sprinkler body to thread in. Unless you break the body - leave it in and replace only the internals.
True - but if you only have another brand you have to remove the body
Junk !
I hate broken sprinkler heads too
