Some, after Shadow the Hedgehog, think the dark hero is some edge lord. But he’s so much more complex than that. Shadow woke up for the first time, was told his purpose is to cure a girl, Maria, that became his best friend. She and her grandfather being the only family he’d ever known. Only a short time of living-in isolation and looking at the world, life, from the outside. Just out of reach. He’d only existed, not lived. Then, one day, the only home he’s known was raided by people that deemed him “too dangerous”, resulting in watching the one you love dearly, die. Ripped from you, as she forcibly scarifces herself, in you can’t do anything to stop it, despite your immense power. Then, you’re woken up 50 years later, by the relative of the man that created you, and learn the only family you knew, died long ago. Your last memory before injustly being imprisoned and hid away from the world you and Maria wanted to see-was her dying a gruesome and unfair death. Shadow had every right to strike back and destroy the world. But even if he’d succeeded, he’d be alone again, and the pain wouldn’t go away. Because he’d have no one. Only his hate. Shadow is a tragic antagonist, that became a reluctant anti-hero, then a dark hero set on protecting the world. Even aginst Eggman, who was related to Gerald. He has no limits, but few reservations in ending somone that threatens Earth. Unlike Sonic. Even after teaming up with Team Dark, and becoming an agent for GUN, and a frenemy/rival to Sonic, Shadow’s chosen to move on. But he knows, his past will always be part of him. Just like a shadow. But he’s learned to redefine what that means to him. And what HE believes his purpose to be.

Really enjoyed this awesome song! It's a shame that so many people are so paranoid about anything being AI nowadays, that anything that doesn't sound entirely 100% human gets questioned and bashed. Like autotune and stuff exists, and so does audio manipulation, like changing the pitch, tempo, echo and reverb. I for one actually enjoy the way the voice sounds, and I don't think it's AI at all. I'm sorry people are starting an AI witch hunt in the comments section. This song sounds FAR better than anything an AI would be able to produce. I also love how distorted it sounds, because it really fits well with Shadow. How his past has always been shrouded in doubt and uncertainty, and how he's trying to make sense of all the pieces. It sounds like he's trying to break through to find the truth of his past, through all the pain he's endured. And the distortion of the singing really drives that home for me. It's like he's trying to push through the pain and fears and doubts and trying to convince himself he's ready for the truth he's seeking.

Song was really good. I think the intro was a bit misleading cuz it didn't mix with the rest of the song. Overall, this was great.

I read a few of the comments about the vocals. I can tell you this: The slight change shifts in the vocals represent the character of Shadow with his past and where he could/will go. Y'all really embraced his character on this. Currently have this going on repeat.

@@Dylan_Dinglebob It's choppy bc of the overdrive filter, guitar mixing mashed some of it. The voice was slightly altered with ai so that I can be heard clearly tho. Otherwise, Borgerz sang, and I mixed and did the instrumentals. Or u can ask Borgerz on his channel abt vocal enhancement and other stuff I don't know about since he has been doing music for a long time. Or u can keep believing that its AI. 🙂
