I think a powerlifting meet with ascending weights would be cool. Something different. Also a super raw meet would be cool beltless no sleeves no equipment.
Love the episode! Do you consider regular bloodwork a must for any athlete that pushes into 200-250+ territory? Seems like the 1x a year basic physical labs probably misses stuff
What I want to see more of in strength sports 1. Some kind of scoring system that makes a lick of sense in strongman. if Thor 1v1ed hooper he'd kick his ass. That's stupid. 2. No more deadlift suits or knee wraps. We all want to see how strong people can get/be. Not how well people can leverage artificial aids to lifting weights. 2. No more speed events in strongman. No fucking timed events at all. Make the shit heavier, or have the option to do more reps than the opponent. Or if it's a carry, carry it further. Test strength, not footspeed. 4. Some kind of Squat event where you have to Squat below parallel. Punish a lack of quad strength. 5. Who the fuck wants to watch women on steroids piss all over the place?
15:25 Strongman is going to find more generalists And the static monsters will complain But it is not powerlifting In a typical 5 event show you'll have a deadlift, press, carry, medley, and stone run for time 3 of those reward speed and athleticsm 2 reward max strength So the sport inherently rewards whoever is strong enough to check the boxes and not lose too too many points Yet athletic enough to win all the speed and medley events And since you can't do too many max events without causing a bunch of injuries The well rounded athletes will always do better And the guys that just want to skip cardio and bloatmax their deadlift to a number that gives them their last crumbs of serotonin will complain about everything as long as they can The sport unfortunately hinges on whatever the promoters decide to test Shaw will hopefully keep changing the sport and make it undeniable who is the best and strongest Even if giants live continues to use a lot of light weights Also JF Caron has a similar disposition to Shaw so all the top Canadian shows are diabolically heavy and evil Expect a lot more Canadians in the future JF demanding more of them is bringing up a new generation of monsters every year
The Canadian circuit is cool as hell, I like the philosophy if and Brian center around where it’s not inherently static and instead a well rounded rest of patterns but also skews on that heavier side. I think the Canadian fellas competing so often makes them damn good at strongman but also robs them of time between shows to develop weaknesses/static strength but I agree for sure we will see more and more of them at the top
The general strength sport trends are best described by christian demoninations: Oly is the orthodox of strength sports. Niche, weird, hopelessly old fashioned, in a little bubble that is super cool but also ignored by near on everyone, unless you're in or around eastern europe. Powerlifting is the catholics. A few throwbacks to old things. Occasionally trying new shit with mixed success. Full of pedos. Strongman is the protestants. Some good and badly needed innovations (watchable competitions), some shit that is much worse than it was before (hitching deads), promptly subsumed by capitalism, will get worse before/if it gets any better, the worst music out of the three.

3 of those reward speed and athleticsm 2 reward max strength
So the sport inherently rewards whoever is strong enough to check the boxes and not lose too too many points
Yet athletic enough to win all the speed and medley events
And since you can't do too many max events without causing a bunch of injuries
The well rounded athletes will always do better
And the guys that just want to skip cardio and bloatmax their deadlift to a number that gives them their last crumbs of serotonin will complain about everything as long as they can
The sport unfortunately hinges on whatever the promoters decide to test
Shaw will hopefully keep changing the sport and make it undeniable who is the best and strongest
Even if giants live continues to use a lot of light weights
Also JF Caron has a similar disposition to Shaw so all the top Canadian shows are diabolically heavy and evil

Do you all take gear ?
I have seen both of them taking lifting gear such as straps and sleeves to the gym in their videos so yes.
I am natural, Sam is not👍
