Hi Greg, congratulations on your new adventures! A huge thank you for sharing these videos, your clear way of explaining not just what you’re doing but why is so useful (and addictive to watch) for people who have the same dream of building a camper van. We’ve been looking for a van to convert for a couple of months (Sprinter or Relay/Ducato/Boxer) and are collecting our Sprinter today! We’ll be documenting our build focussing on gadgetry and handcrafted pieces on UA-cam, but you really have set the bar high! Last year we travelled around Europe for 6 months in a motorhome as we didn’t have enough time to build a conversion before we wanted to head off. The travelling was amazing, we’re so fortunate to live on such a beautiful and diverse continent, and some of the places we’d recommend are the Scenic Routes in Norway, Picos de Europa, San Sebastian and Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabarceno all in Northern Spain, The Romantic Road Germany, Mando Island in Denmark and Beauvron en Auge in Normandy for the cider and crepes at Colomb'Auge Creperie. A couple of other tips and recommendations are, Google MyMaps for plotting places you’d like to visit - you can use different icons for different types of places e.g. food, watersports, gardens etc and include some text and a link to where you read about that place to remind you why you’ve pinned it - we have one of the world full of pins and when we were travelling, we had no plans but just connected the dots and it worked perfectly. We’d also recommend the CamperContact app for finding where to park overnight (we had a selection of parking apps as none were complete), www.mylpg.eu to find LPG and you can download and overlay it to MyMaps, security to deter potential thieves which we were very hot on after we got broken into, a refillable gas tank (amazing value), google translate, a Revolut prepay card, and negotiating a big data allowance with your mobile company and getting a mifi with as much data as you can, it’s amazing how much you use! All the best on your travels and we look forward to your videos.
Hello Bryony, thank you for such a wonderful comment. I have copied your recommendations, they will be most helpful and will be following your build on UA-cam. Best wishes with your new sprinter build.
I should add that I like all your videos, and I'm hoping to build a camper myself one day. Thanks for making the effort to make the videos (I know how long it takes). Cheers!
+1. .. Watching with great enthusiasm, and we don't care to own a Sprinter van. .. G. Virgoe's level of detail and expertise is entertaining. .. "Measure twice, cut once" - A Master Carpenter once said. .. Greg, thanks for the videos.
The attention to detail makes for a really first class job and its delivered in such a way that you can only aspire to do the same - only time will tell on the later. Well we can all dream!
Hi Roy, what I found helps is using a very good quality laminate cutting blade in my tools. Ones by Freud from Screwfix are the best and I use the 80tooth so they give a really clean cut with no tear out. The furniture board also cut very well. Practice using your tools on scrap wood to build confidence before cutting the expensive stuff. Hope that helps you 😀
There's so much information and neat little tips packaged into those videos! Greg, you are very talented, passionate and above all such an incredible teacher - thank you for being around and taking the time to share your wisdom 👍
Without sounding critical, if you had left the cabinet 20mm shy of the ceiling with or without a stretcher baton your doors would have remained open. Your hinges currently dont reach their optimum opening range hence your need for cams/pistons.. you're skills are off the scale, and you sir are brilliant.
@@GregVirgoe well Greg, in 2 days I've watched almost all your build/ tutorials, you are a class operator. Very professional in your work and presentation, fair crack at the moonwalk aswell 😃
Thank you very much, I only took 3mm off each door, basically, just the saw cut, then put back the trim and was left with only 1.5mm between them it was very close :D lol
I've become enamoured of the idea of using t-slot aluminium for my cabinets and work surfaces etc, but yours turned out awesome, great woodworking, solid, and beautiful. Nice work.
Love watching your video, super craftsmanship with all your gadgets..and an easy going voice to listen too..compared with some of those videos where it's hard to pick up what they are saying..good stuff!!
Hi Greg & family, hope that everything is going well and that you finally got away. Just watched all your videos to do with your van. Love it. Time seems to just take every inch of you and makes you see what is more important when leavingyour home and leaving to another country, based on your video with the map you should of left long before now. If ever your in Costa Del Sol, Spain area would be great to meet up for a beer. Hope your travels are as exciting as we had. 😊
Great workmanship as alawys ,Its a pleasure to watch you work your attention to detail is exceptional im sure the van will be stunnig fished , Thank you for the experience
I tell you what Greg, I'm currently building a van, and I have learned so much from your videos. I thought I was good at woodworking, but you're the man! Keep the videos coming!@
Your van and your videos are brilliant. I hope I've said it before, but I need to say it again as your videos get better and better. You must self-appraise and redouble your efforts. My favorite part of this video is using the single furniture board, laid out in advance to look like one perfect run. I was taught in machine shop training that thoughtful layout is key to an efficient end product. Thanks for bringing life and meaning to my 50 year old training. Btw, the iron on banding is going into use on my A/V cabinet oak shelves. Thanks for everything.
That describes me perfectly! lol That's a nice looking sprinter you have George. Mind you that RV before was bigger than my old house! You are right where I am heading, kindred spirits my friend 😉
Its John again from upstate New York (Saratoga Springs area) in the USA.. I know everyone praises your work and the job you do. I've got to got to add To it because you really deserve it! You do a beautiful job! I just love to watch and see your work. I look forward to your next video all the time. If I could only do half as good a job as you, I think it would still look god LOL. Really great job again! Respectfully John
I really appreciate you taking the time to give me such great feedback John, many thanks and I hope you continue to enjoy my videos in the future, best regards
Your videos are like London busses, you wait ages for one then two come along together lol I jest Greg, I just wish you would upload new ones everyday and I bet I'm not the only one but we know that's not possible. Your van conversion is the best professional/diy step by step ones you can find on youtube. Looking forward to the next ones, not to long we hope lol
I think that myself of other channels that I follow. However, I do enjoy them more when they do appear not so often. I try to release a video every Friday afternoon now as a minimum. Looking to add a vlog video to answer questions and give updates midweek??
Same here Greg I do look forward to certain videos and yours is included. Don't forget to inform us all when you start your vlog as I'm sure you know you will have many followers. Looking forward to your next video and your vlog.
yet another great video on how skillful you really are what a build and the attention to detail is second to none just superb thanks for sharing with us handy tips are so useful for everyone that are thinking of building one
hi Greg, i'm slowly going through your van build, not that i'll ever build my own, but i have to say your attention to detail is just awesome. thank you for all these video's, its giving me something to do during lockdown. Hope one day we meet up somewhere in the sunshine and the first round is on me. cheers Al
Once again - awesome. Superb attention to detail. Even if a person is on a much lower budget (like myself), there is so, so much to be learned from these videos. I just can’t wait for the next one.
I do try to save money where ever I can, I do like to think I am getting value for money from the more expensive items. The GTV hinges are only £1.10 each :D You could apply the trim to any type of base material.
I've watched your build series from the start and your attention to details is always impressive, and the seamless look of those doors is stunning! Even so I am even more amazed that you take the time to explain and show everything in such detail. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing the entire process of converting your van, Mr Virgoe! I've been following the series since the very first video, and I find your balance in giving higher and lower level information quite comprehensive. I must admit, though, I'm intrigued about how many rolls of masking tape you'll have gone through once the project is complete. Cheers, buddy!
You can also buy a hobby laminating iron for £20 ish, they're smaller and are easier to handle than a normal iron... however, a normal iron is still good if you don't want to buy another tool Love these videos, I'm literally binge watching them.
I have a hobby iron from "HobbyKing" but I'm not sure it has enough mass and size to be as effective as a normal cheap domestic Iron? Never tried it but the household one everyone can easily get hold of. Thank you for binge watching too :D
Mine too was from hobbyking. I only ever used it to apply clear laminate film to foam wings on RC planes. I found it's small size ideal for the delicate areas. But yes, of course everyone has access to a domestic iron and if it works, brilliant.
Best doors I've ever seen Greg. Blimey they look smart:) I've gone for white painted Shaker style, with piano hinges. But you are right with no adjustment getting things to line up has been a real headache. I wish your video had come out a week ago:(
I was only aware of them from fitting the odd kitchen and the workshop build. Having the ability to adjust the door position post fitting is a life saver. If you are fitting doors you must be well on now, have you got any new photos to share?
iama cabinet maker in aus and its good to watch another trades man working with the atenion to detail asi do and what good job you have done onthous doors
NIce detail on the edge banding installation. I've never had luck with the durability of edge banding, but it probably was due to my shabby install. I never "rounded over" the edges with the iron and didn't have the trimming tool you did. Great video again Greg.
Brilliant work, as usual Greg! Just a few of suggestions: 1) An automatic center punch saves the marking step, and obviates the need for the hammer. 2) Permanent marker (Sharpie) works a treat to dress the ends of edge banding. 3) The Kreg Concealed Hinge Jig (about US$30) makes precise work of cup mortising and pilot hole drilling. Consistent results time after time and a step/time saver. Under cabinet LED light placement (forward in the galley and rearward elsewhere) shows your extreme attention to detail. Well done.
Hi Greg, excellent video and super quality detailed work on your van interior. You are obviously what Norm Abram would call a Master Craftsman and i like your attention to detail. Very educational also. I've subd and i'm looking forward to checking out the rest of your work asap. Keep up the good work PS...I always wrap some alum foil round my shop iron, just cos i'm getting old and lazy. Cheers for now.
Another great one. Wished you lived on this side of the pond. I would be seeking your help. PS...I have been waiting all week for a video and today we get two. Thanks! 👍👏
I did a couple of layouts, but kept changing them. lol. However, I love that style of how you took the time of getting the cabinet uniform by the grain. You are absolutely right about taking the time to do things. It makes a powerful difference.
Hi Greg, Thanks for showing us beginners how it should be done!! I have built a few vans including a crafter that I was really happy with, but with my minimal woodworking experience and skills there was lots I had been doing wrong... now after watching your expertise and tools used I am ready to start my new sprinter, I have purchased several of the tools you have advised to use and am really looking forward to starting the build. One touch I think is really nice is the aluminium trim with diffuser for the LED lighting strips sunken into the underside of your units, would you mind telling where I can this trim please, again thanks for going to all the effort making these really helpful videos!!

I actually had other plans this evening, but here I am binge watching your videos...🙄😏
That level of attention to details makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks, Greg!
Pleased you like the detail

Wow matching the grain makes them look awesome
It does make a world of difference.
About to start my Peugeot Boxer minibus conversion now, If I spent as long on the conversion as I do watching your vids, I'd be finished by now !!!
I hope they are helping you save a bit of time 👍🏼😃
Loved the grain match

Your attention to detail and ability to do all of these things yourself is so impressive!
It really boils down to a "Have a Go" attitude and some practice on scraps before you tackle the real thing.
Beautiful work Greg
You are a true craftsman. I've learned so much from your videos. A big thumbs up and thanks.
Just having a refresher viewing prior to starting my furniture build, excellent detail and descriptions as ever. Many thanks Greg.

Got to love that - two episodes for a Saturday morning

Looks wonderful! I think I need to order a coffee mug 😊 it will be a ‘ new home’ gift to myself when I get my van completed!
Think my Tea mug with the beach huts has featured on a few workshop videos :D lol
I'll have to put it in a few tour videos as well
Attention to detail is out of this world stunning work hooked to the channel.
You are a master Greg! Beautifully done!
The lights do look fantastic, and that matched grain with the tight gaps between doors makes it look like a single board! Fantastic.

Another fabulous video Greg. So precise and informative. Very educational and I have to say the van is looking coach built indeed
Yes I am really pleased with the high gloss boards, although i do keep getting nagged over the fingerprints lol
Fantastic piece of work. Really enjoying this series.

The fine detail at the end with the continuous grain shows a lot about your work, keen eye for detail.

Love ya trimming tool, the chisels hard work having to sharpen it a lot !
Yes that tool is genius when you have about 20 doors to make and trim it makes it really quick.
Brilliant work, as usual Greg!
Just a few of suggestions:
1) An automatic center punch saves the marking step, and obviates the need for the hammer.
2) Permanent marker (Sharpie) works a treat to dress the ends of edge banding.

It makes the whole process so worthwhile when guys like yourself Roger take the time to comment, thank you
Beautiful work there Greg..The devils in the detail mate and you smashed it, big time...If and when you ever sell that van I want first dibs!

That's a great tip, my misses recommends Jif or Cif I think its called now on a cold iron it works a treat lol
Fantastic information mate 👍👍and love the little trim face cutting tool
Greg, you are going to have to take the Mercedes badges off that van and replace them with Maybach ones! Cabinet work like that is next level...
I'm afraid I can't afford the cream leather seats though :D lol
Another great one. Wished you lived on this side of the pond. I would be seeking your help. PS...I have been waiting all week for a video and today we get two. Thanks! 👍👏

beautiful work❤️. My van is gutted still. I think those hinges are a great idea
Have you settled on your layout yet, that's the biggest and key thing, decide where everything has to go first, get that cast in stone
I did a couple of layouts, but kept changing them. lol.
However, I love that style of how you took the time of getting the cabinet uniform by the grain.
You are absolutely right about taking the time to do things. It makes a powerful difference.
Top job again Greg........amazing!!!!! 😀👍👍👍👍👍
I cannot say enough good things about your videos, every aspect is so well done. As well, I like your table saw, can you provide any details on it?
Hello Joe, you can find latest details in the description of the unboxing video here ua-cam.com/video/YGZPPb08M0w/v-deo.html
Superb as ever, great explanations and attention to detail, look forward to the next.
At a lost for words you did an amazing job
Looks magic mate, nice job
You are awesome!! I like how you work
Many thanks, much appreciated
Great attention to detail
