Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald rare performance of Doobie Brothers "Minute By Minute" 2022

- I had the privilege of getting Kenny, his band, and Michael McDonald together for a live multi-cam shoot of the hit song, recorded for a fundraiser for the 36th Unity Telethon, supporting low income families and seniors all year long in the Santa Barbara area.
Michael McDonald's voice hasn't changed at all!! He is outstanding ❤️
Like fine wine. Gets better with age!
Old hot!
Mike commented when touring early 2000 that he couldn't believe he was still popular enough to do that and sustain a band joking that he thought he would be back on the airforce base where he had gigged as a teenager... if they would still have him. Such a quiet and humble guy, and this from the man who defined West Coast (and quite possibly global soft rock) music throughout the 80's along with Kenny, Hall & Oates, Toto and Ambrosia (David Pack).
During 1980 to 1986, having helped to launch Christopher Cross (and after influencing Steely Dan and revitalising The Doobie Brothers to a new radio audience), he would quietly work for Qwest Records. Although not widely known this was significant - James Ingram's debut album and the smash hit Ya Mo Be There launched another career, George Benson's crossover debut album Give Me The Night (uncredited) brought the jazz great to popular attention, Donna Summer's iconic State of Independence, the fore runner to We Are The World (in the all star choir with Kenny, James Ingram and Christopher Cross) and Rod (Thriller) Temperton's hit Sweet Freedom for the movie Running Scared. Just a few highlights. Michael Jackson was in the all star choir and is on record as saying What A Fool Believes was a favourite. It is no surprise that Mike was working at Qwest when James Ingram re-wrote PYT for Thriller in 1982 - listen to the background vocals at .030 for the influence.
Motown subsequently worked with him (after those London gigs in 2000 via Universal Music International) to release a covers album as a revival for their back catalogue. A few artistes had tried Motown covers before although Universal recognised that Mike had the love, St Louis gospel background and vocal chops to carry it off - not one artiste but many of them - Marvin, Smokey and Stevie included. Mike would comment that What's Goin' On and Songs In The Key Of Life were foremost in his desire to write songs after his early inspiration and love of Ray Charles crossover recordings. Mike insisted on including less well known tracks as well as 'hits' on the two albums and Tuesday Heartbreak is simply a beautiful, soulful take on a Stevie Wonder hidden gem.
Thanks for sharing this experience with your upload.
But Kenny Loggins face has. He looks like Madonna looks like now. Cheekbone implants? Really?
His voice is fantastic.I live to heat him sing. When I first heard him on an interview, I was rather surprised to notice that his speaking voice is unlike his singing voice. On the other hand, Bill Medley and Teddy Pendergrass sounded the same when they sang and spoke. This is merely an observation, nothing more.
Michael McDonald has an unbelievable voice. So happy to have grown up with him.
That guitar man!! Love it! And that sax! Wonderful musicians
#1 on my playlist now just as it did 30 years ago…..
Yes. Discovering that. Ethereal.
Maybe but he is NOT Doobie bros sound. I know he saved them but he is not “them”
Aren’t we all….
Kenny at age 75 and Michael at 71 still rockin out together!!! They’re totally in their element here, they co-wrote some amazing songs for sure!
Kenny IS the ELDEST?
THIS VIDEO Kenny looks a good 15 years younger!

Such a classic, but it was great to see Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald on the stage at the same time after all that time
Just wonderful!!! Both still have it!! Great job guys!!
@@deborahfrey5464 Saw them both live at the college of the Redwoods
My mom used to work at a residential care facility called Hillside House back in the '80s. Michael and Kenny, with some local musicians - one of them a fantastic drummer and percussionist I played with, Rene Martinez - would all visit different facilities around Santa Barbara at Christmastime. Got to hear these guys live, unprocessed, unmic'ed, and it was as good as this is. Michael's voice - there's just nothing like it. Got a carpet for Michael's damper pedal because it was slipping away from him on the first song.
They were genuinely nice people, and made so many people's day when they'd do their annual Christmas circuit and visit with them before heading off to the next stop. One of my all-time best concert experiences ever.
They truly love what they do and to share this with others.
So great to know that. They seem like genuinely nice men.
Does Michael live near Santa Barbara? I saw him back in late 80's with his family in Solvang.
@@autumn1231 From: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_McDonald_(musician)
McDonald has been married to singer Amy Holland since 1983. They have two children. He moved with his family to Santa Barbara, California, in the late 1990s, and has subsequently lived in Nashville, Tennessee.[41]
@@NadaSurfinAB thank you. We made eye contact acknowledging that I recognizing him and left it at that.
Did Kenny Loggins go to Kenny Roger’s plastic surgeon? Unrecognizable! Anyway, fabulous performance!
I can’t believe how great Micheals voice still sounds. I loved him w The Doobie Bros and on his own. I remember when being a teen and him coming out w What a fool believes…. I was crazy about that song!!!
We all were!
He is still one of the great musicians out there. Vocal, composer, arrangements. You name it he can do it.
I don't know if anyone out there likes Hall and Oates. But I always wanted to hear Michael sing with Daryl Hall. It was amazing!!! They sound so soulful, their voices blended perfectly. And when it was Daryl Hall and John Oates singing with him it so beautiful. I wish they would record an album together ❤️
Me too!! This brings back a lot of fond memories. I played Minute By Minute on my 8 track until I wore the tape out!! My brother took me to my first Doobie Brothers concert in Greensboro, NC in 1978 and I've been hooked ever since. I've seen MM and The Doobies many times since then and I still love them! Keep on grooving MM!!
@@terrizeleznik6309 YYYYAAAAASSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! My exact thoughts!
Daryl and Michael share same level of genius caliber. Both so soulful. Wonder if Daryl could accept the West Coast vibe, lol! Please, please, let them sing together, Universe!
Wow! Michael McDonald and my honorary Doobie Brother, Kenny Loggins. A heavenly match! Simply the BEST!!!
This present generation needs to grow up with Grandma and papaws music. They might just learn what true harmony and precision song writing is really about. No “Pop”, here!
Kenny is a fantastic singer and musician and we all love him for his significant contributions to music all these years... but Michael McDonald is simply beyond this world!
Hate to share the stage with MM 😂
YES! It's about time somebody said it 😁👍.
I grew up listening to Kenny.
❤
Michael McDonald’s voice harmonizes with other voices beautifully. His voice is so distinctive, I can pick it out in any song he is singing on.
I'm watching this again!! Lol I just love it!!! Still holding on in 2024 minute by minute!!
Kenny Loggins a Santa Barbara treasure!
Oh my. The memories.
Saw Loggins in a restaurant in SFO (Greens, Ft. Mason; doubt it’s there now) old hangout). Bittersweet. He loveed (or at least gave a very approving nod to) my sister’s sheet-straight, healthy, waist long, thick blond hair.
She recently lost her battle to lung cancer. We were both diagnosed within one year. But I am, for some time to come, I hope, still here...remembering our many, many times together.
McDonald is older. Loggins is older (dare I say we're old fogies now?!). We have all passed into that land of now being the elders, the wise(r) ones with the years of experience and the battle scars. We're the next generation to go; let's live it fully, and let us teach our younger ones well.
It's been a crazy, beautiful ride. I can so easily recall her repeating, “So. Kenny Loggins likes my hair! Kenny Loggins likes my hair! Or “Kenny Loggins just *stared* at my hair!’
So. Kenny Loggins
Great, especially for men in their 70s! I love the way Michael's fingers dance across the keyboard.
Amen to that! 63 years young and still diggin' the sound of good keyboard playing. Makes me want to go back to playing the keys again. Peace out.
Masterful performance by all involved. Back in the 70’s and 80’s I was a huge fan of both Kenny and Michael. This is a joy to hear.
Simply no one else in this world like Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. It simply doesn't get any better thank this. BRAVO!!!!!
Amen 🙏!!
Ahh the old days when artists really knew how to sing without computers and auto tune. Rock on, heroes.
Nobody can match Michaels delivery NO ONE.
These guys refuse to age! Still great voices & performances!
Totally agree. Unbelievable as it seems, their voices seem to get better and betteer. 💯👏👏
Are you joking?
Pros are like that!
Shine sweet freedom ❤ 🎵🎶🕺 Michael Mc Donald is One of my absolute favourites 😎😁👍🏻
Lawd, Michael you are amazing!
Love these guys separately and together. I was blessed enough to see them way back in the 80’s along with David Pack of Ambrosia, on a triple bill and then they also performed together. One of the best concerts of my life. Went with two buddies, I think it was a birthday gift for one of us, but I forget who. Doesn’t matter, because it was a gift for all of us. And everyone else there.
Good lord, what has Kenny done to his face? It's ok to get older, really. Michael can still sing - damn, what a beautiful voice!
Botox for sure!
I think it's mainly the cheek implants that make him look so different, but Botox is also deadening his eyes,..too bad, he was always a nice looking guy before.
Now folks that some of the best !! 👌 Real Music !! You can't beat the 70's !! We knew every word and every beat ! 💓
The GREATS are TIMELESS
What talent.
Not all "greats", and I generally detest Geezer Tours. However, these two were always cool, somehow still are, have aged gracefully and still have the chops!
Michael McDonald is the bestest creative artist, songwriter, musician, & a fantastic singer! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤I love every.. Minute By Minute.. of it.❤
So much talent here.. 👍Great upload.. thank you!
One of my all time favorite voices.. Keep on killin it, Michael!!!
God, this is awesome. I love to sing songs "in the style of Michael McDonald" lol but hearing the man himself, do it like only he does it, gets me every time. There's only one Michael McDonald.
Had the honor of being at Kenny's very 1st Unity Telethon concert in Santa Barbara. He and Michael continue to carry those magnificent harmonies! Grateful to have seen Michael in a 2006 Reno, NV concert. Kenny's concerts throughout the years continued to be flawless. Hope to hear their melodies for years to com.
Ans this is exactly the reason I need to move to California! Santa Barbara would be extra special!
Two Great men! They are both very special to me. I always enjoy it when they perform together. Thank you for sharing.
Great Talent!! I will never stop enjoying K. Loggins and M. McDonald . Doobie Brothers Forever!😘
Santa Barbara's best besties! 👏👏👏
Vous êtes super tous les deux. Je vous adore et redemande à vous voir ensemble encore et encore. Pourquoi pas un concert à Rouen. Ce serait génial. On y viendrait.
Michael M's voice hasn't changed, unlike Kenny's face.
I saw Michael a few years ago...the man is still the same as he was as a Doob. Kenny is awesome...love them both and the great music. they made for us. Soundtrack of our lives if it was your vibe....it was mine.
Mine too!
These guys still sound great - and at 72, only two days ago - with the help of a UA-cam video - did I finally figure out that damned piano intro. Michael is a great talent....and, man, that is one weird intro...cool....but pretty weird. Funny, I played piano for a living until I was 42 and me and Michael McDonald were born two days apart - but the biggest difference was our level of talent. Michael is truly a spectacular musician and singer.
I've been listening to this man since I was 3 years old, and he has been bringing me to tears since then with his immaculate talent.
aint it the truth..3 yrs old is the perfect age to join the masters of music..🇨🇦
I'm 53 same here
Love your comment, and your name!!❤️
You have a great taste in music 🎼🎶
This stuff never gets old!
Time marches on. Pretty damn incredible, these guys.
Just lovely Macdonald what a privilege to listen to 1 of the greates singers ,good job from the whole band.
So good. Loved both of these guys from the beginning. Dudes you are the best!
They sound great together and both very handsome to say the less 😊❤
Wow! I wasn't expecting that much! They still hitting those notes after all these years!
They both did a rendition of "What A Fool Believes" live at the Redwoods about 30 yrs ago. That was magic!
I watched the video on You Tube. The performance was magical. I liked the new arrangement. 😊
Only one missing from this group of blue-eyed soul singers - is Bobby Caldwell (RIP).
True talent right there on stage. I love it when artists remain timeless. Age is just a number. ❤
DARNIT‼️
I WOULD HAVE PAID BIG MONEY TO HAVE SEEN THIS LIVE
CANNOT BELIEVE I MISSED OUT THESE

Boy!! There us so much to say. I am happy you didn't get to hide in back ground vocals for a long time. You Bless us with your talent. Thanks for sharing. Stepping up and out front is not always easy. Thanks Micheal
I just recently remembered Kenny had a great duet w Steve Perry back in the day! Just went and listened to it. It was so good too!
The song is….Don’t fight it……
THANK YOU ! I love them together..........❤❤❤❤❤ They were so wonderful to do this for Charity.
We don’t appreciate Kenny Loggins contributions enough. For the longest time, I thought MMcD was both voices. WTF, I was only 12 when my big sister introduced me to them.
Michael's hair looks glorious. His singing is great, too.
Old dudes rule! Great stuff!
Now that folks, is how you do key changes! Hard to believe that first one goes from C to G. They make it look so easy!
These two are in their 70’s- sexay!❤
...and Michael McDonald still plays the heck outta the keyboard/piano
he's a great keyboard player
I am surprised on how they've aged. Both are still gifted performers. I've got them both in my CD collection.
Don’t we all. 😏
@Frank Woods You mean at how well they’ve aged musically. I agree!
I first found the Heart to Heart and now this one thank you this is wonderful and love the other musicians that guy on the Sax is kick ass lol everyone who plays on these recordings are wonderful thank you again. Great to see those musicians who are as old as I am lol Still performing and composing keep it up . Recently discovered Ry Cooder's son Joachim Cooder. he is carrying on in dads footsteps lol
Sometimes it's hard to listen to Michael. Stuffy voice... But pretty clear here. Kenny.....you're the bomb!!
Damn hes still got it in spades. Beautiful seeing them all together and smashing it. ❤❤❤❤❤
And that my friends is the epitome of true talents. No auto tune necessary. More please ❤
Michael McDonald voice is magic good to see he hasn't lost that umph, Mr. Blue Eyes sexy voice.
These guys are still GREAT! Timeless talents🎶🎸🥁
Great song by Michael. Has all the rythym blues we love.👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️
So great! No words!!!!!
I had both albums when Kenny Loggins sang with Michael McDonald on the Doobie Brothers album Minute by Minute and Michael sang it on Kenny Logging Album..Loved both of them
Awhile after posting I realized the song they sang on each others albums was "what a fool believes" 😁
I 💕😘 Michael McDonald, forever and a day
Michael McDonald is Fabulous in Concert!!!!❤
I'm old cause there older than me. But soon I'll be there age. Loving listening 🎶
Pure class,great song,great musicians.,and vocals to die for...,love it!
Honestly, I keep coming back to this masterpiece. Age only gave this set more of a story.
So much soul and groove!😊
Love these two . Why on earth did Kenny Loggins get a facelift? I saw him 3 years ago in the Beverly Hills hotel and he looked great .
Hes still got it. I bought Minute by minute the year it came out
Still have it! And more Doobies. And lots of Kenny albums too. This is a treat.
In the 90s Michael was everywhere, on everyone’s recordings. So cool
That's what I call team work
This is what makes me glad I’m old.❤
Omg! Am I that old? Last time I saw these guys they were like in their 20s. Of course that was way back in the 70s! Kenny hasn't aged well.
THE REAL OLD SCHOOL MUSIC. AMAZING!!!!!!
There are very few people would make me cry if I met them. Logins and McDonald are on that list❤️
❤❤❤❤Love them!
Love both of them so much!!!!
Love, love, love…
It sure is good to live your life surrounded by good people who enter in & hang around like family. Keep holding on to each other.
I saw Kenny 3 times once with Michael in Las Vegas😊
I had a mystical experience listening to this exquisite performance; you can see how much they love doing it
I have been a Doobie Brothers fan since day one back in the early 70's.This is my alltime favourite McDonald/Doobie tune. The original showed off the great work of one of the best in the biz,Tiran Porter on bass. This a really slick version of a Doobie's classic.
Fantastic, thank you for this upload.
The golden oldies are awesome !!
He deserves 5 gramnys only for that piano intro alone....but then he songs like nobodys business sthis man IS incredibly talented
You can't stop great artist
Listen to these voices ❤
Que maravilla! Talentosisimos, que regalo, gracias!
think that I was fifteen when I first heard Mike sing. I am 60 now...., his voice is just as sweet to hear now as then. an extraordinary talent for sure.....,
Speechless...
The sultry soulful voice of Michael McDonald. Gold.
