Wow! So many beautiful orchids!!! Thank you for another wonderful video. I have to say I’m usually into the oncidiums but I’m really enjoying those cattleyas with the larger than life blooms! and I’m really inspired to join my local orchid society in Raleigh, NC. ps. I got so excited I noticed Smiley had a Lycaste like one I used to have in my collection years ago and I miss it, I’m going to see if she has it available to ship. Thank you so much for that. Love from, NC. 👏😍❤️
Hi, thanks so much for watching our videos. We are so happy to know you have orchids, too. That plant is so beautiful, so sorry it died on you. I'm sure Smiley will ship it to you. Many regards 💓
It should be pointed out that smiley was talking about chickens that get pumped full of hormones and people overeating causing health problems. She then directly transfers this belief onto growing orchids. No scientific evidence backs up what she is saying. I know where it comes from. A holistic approach to growing. But it did remind me a lot of a recent film I watched called club zero. Just read the bio to know what the film is about. It's not a very good film. Basically a science techer convinces a group of teenager to join her club zero, a club aimed at reducing our toxic intake of bioengineered foods. In the end the group dies of starvation. So it should be pointed out some beliefs are valid. Some are just cult like beliefs that could be quite damaging. If you watch the film, it is very convincing. You are made to believe by the end of it that food is bad and the less food we eat the stronger we become. I mean there is some validity in holistic appraoches to nutrition but we really should be listening to qualified food experts. Not the latest advice from the voodoo doctor living in the amazon who swears licking toads is the secret to eternal life. Again same with our orchids. But smiley does still get a lot of joy from her plants and probably more so believing she is feeding them holistically which she believes is best. I disagree. Based n experience and plenty of evidence showing how it is done best. So her advice is well meaning and works best for her. It's by no means what is the best one can provide growing orchids. Based on her advice my flowers will last twice as long as hers. That's one thing many do not realize. A strong orchid will produce more fragrance than a weak orchid (if it is fragrant) and the flowers can drop early or literally last twice as long depending on how the orchids are grown. This gives one indications of what they need. Based on smiley's advice my orchids would flower but the flowers would last the minimum amount of time and pseudobulbs would grow smaller over time. So I had to point that out having tested her belief. Her belief stems from her belief of how chicjens are pumped full of hormones in the business and when she started she vowed never to do that to her plants.... Because she never tried her advice is based on her belief and nothing more because she has never actually tried any different because as we can see from her beliefs she would never dream of doing so.
Thanks, Tom. This is probably by far the most extensive comment we've ever had. Coming from an expert and experience grower that you are, we respect it. Thanks so much for keeping it professional, but making your point. We do, however, respect all schools of knowledge, especially when it works for the individual. Us, just mere hobbyists, have to step back and just listen. Thanks again, Tom. We really appreciate you watching our videos and taking the time to comment 💓
