  • K'var Acharei Chatzot "After Midnight" is also known as Mechol Hashaket - Quiet dance. This version is the original from 1964, choreographed by Rivka Sturman, danced in a modified escort handhold. In the second part during the second time through the dance, there is a need to 'fudge' a step to stay with the music. Different groups use different steps; we add a sway-sway at the end of the sequence. Here is a link to sheet music drive.google.com/file/d/1sm9D...

Our group used this as our "last dance" song for years, before Covid and social distancing. I am relatively new to international folk dance, but that "fudge" second time through. I know that we just did the step as if we were starting, but the group would count 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 .... why? Because it is 7 steps (without sway) before the back step. Very confusing to new dancer who otherwise found this to be an easy dance to follow and nice music to end with.
