Is it just me, or does anyone else get the impression that they were initially setting up John's shoplifting as an early sign of dementia then suddenly changed tack and made it deliberate theft? Because when he stole the light bulb and sardines it was played as absentmindedness, he was confused, distressed and angry to discover them in his pocket. Then, he suddenly just starts doing it deliberately. I have a theory to backup my suspicion that they changed the direction the story was initially heading, but it does involve spoilers as I've already watched a ton of episodes beyond these so if you don't want to know anything look away now... ...It's not very far after that John and Barbara are abruptly written out of the show. I reckon that a dementia storyline was originally planned and the scenes involving the initial setup with him unintentionally shoplifting made it to air. But that kind of story would have to develop over a long stretch, and his character ultimately didn't have that amount of time left on the show. My suspicion is that John became earmarked to be axed from the show after the first couple of shoplifting scenes aired, they had to take it somewhere for the audience so reworked it into just being deliberate shoplifting as they could conclude it quickly.
It doesn't get much better than watching the start of the hidden gem storyline of fleet-fingered Johnny Harrison. So where did it all start for you John? Ooh when I nicked me first lighbulb from Jimmy Corkhill.... LOL!
30 years ago and still as brilliant as ever!!!
Always the best is brookside ❤
Sammy is a great actress. Really plays the part well with the baby problems. Love her ❤️
Mr Harrison’s doing a sponsored walk to hull? Well he’s just walked from Croxteth to Childwall in 5 seconds

Was this Tommo’s final appearance in Brookside? It wasn’t much of an exit if it was.
The Harrison`s the most pointless family in UK TV soap history .
