You are on the right path to enjoying your life on a higher level. Pun intended 😂 I remember the days of consumption and forgetting that the words game and fun were meant for each other. Something you failed to consider is the long-term damage that is done to games that only service those top percentage players. They will leave when the meta changes or does not fit their preference. Be appreciative about other aspects and not only valuing staying ahead! It will be more beneficial in the future.

Wow has never been more "rewarding" for casual play, and for me a lot of the complaints people have are simply self made prisons.
I play a lot, but have a very casual approach and prioritize enjoyment, and I feel greatly rewarded.
I remember back in vanilla, grinding rocks to finally afford myself one epic mount, personally Im glad those days are over.
A friend of mine would spend all his game time during a week to get buffs for raid night, thats just never been appealing to me.
Wow was even born out of the desire to have a more casual/less punishing systems than the MMOs at the time
Like how the creators mentioned not liking losing EXP for dying.
Even so, there are still those "hard" rewards, out of reach of the "mere casual"; so theres something there for everyone I think.

  • @Xanoxis
    @Xanoxis 5 місяців тому

Same. I started doing couple things to actually have fun, and explore the world, and not, to play the meta game.
I don't use HandyNotes for new expansion, until I'm really deep into the patch, and found almost everything myself. I don't check items or places or mysteries, but discover them myself, if.. it's designed in a way, that I can do that without Wowhead's help.
I don't fly from place to place at 1000% speed, just to do all right away, especially at the start of expansion. I walk, I use ground mount, I fly in 'immersive' way, trying to use it when it makes sense, and not literally fly from mob to mob, 10 meters away, to save 1 second. I craft consumables and use them consistently for fun. I explore weird spots, and check every nook and corner. I turn off UI and look around at the vistas. I rp my character, and at times interact with other people.
Currently my vulpera offers drug samples to strangers, by giving away Haste flasks I craft, saying it's 'meth'. Or I use lots of toys and engineering devices to mess with people.
There's lots of fun, if someone avoids the meta, and fine tuning of gameplay. I'm not against it, but doing it right away, when expansion starts is a waste of opportunities. WoW feels the best when everything is a mystery as expansion releases. Why ruin it?

(Saw the length of my rant, so I added a TL;DR at the end of the comment.)
Honestly, some people love to go down the meta route. For them that is fun, and I have nothing but respect for it. But what I want to do is be a big old Ret Pala bitch baby and enjoy myself while I find out how to make it as a spec work for the content that I am personally aiming for. Instead of min maxing by going down the route of choosing a specific spec for the maximum amount of damage as an example, I want to min max by finding out all of the little ways that I can push to be the best that I can in the spec that I want to play. I like the class fantasy of being a big ol' light show, and that is all there is to it.
Otherwise, in terms of content, I personally adore the idea of delves. The fact that the rewards that they give can reach all the way to Heroic Raids is absolutely insane, and I love the fact that they will probably serve as a way to challenge yourself solo as with the mage tower back in Legion, because some people, such as yours truly, simply just don't have enough time to commit to group content on a long-term basis. I want to challenge myself and strive to be a better player, whilst not completely falling behind, and delves are a chance for me to do exactly so. It gives players more choice in terms of the content that they want to do as Mythic+ did all the way back in Legion and has done ever since. I'm excited to have some fun in my own very special way in this very special game that we all share, even if it might not be the best experience always.
(TL;DR: I'm pretty goddamn excited to have some fun in the new expansion, y'all.)

Here's how I play it: I have one character who plays the main story and another character who plays the side quests. I intent to slowly add more characters to the new zones, so it feels like a group of adventurers (I like to think of them as my "warband" - came up with this myself ^^).
Here are some tips that make the roleplay more fun:
    ## Change hairstyles and other character details ##
feels like some time has passed since the last adventure with that character, keeps the visuals fresh and makes the character feel more "real", at least to me
    ## start the expansion with a "bland" transmog ##
I know, we are all CHAMPIONS, but the best feeling for me was those first zones I experienced. This "stranger in an unknown land"-effect really adds to the immersion, especially because it makes you fit into the zone better
    ## use more "normal" mounts ##
like your faction mounts, the dragonflight drarkes, etc, for the same reason as transmogs
    ## use slow walking or ground mounts, whenever possible ##
with dragonriding you can cross an entire zone in no time. The reason we remember all those low level zones so well is because it took time to travel through them. And those zones look UGLY. really give yourself time to take in these gorgeous vistas, pluspoints for taking roads and paths instead of running in a straight line to every destination
    ## embrace distractions ##
Not necessarily a rp tip, but something that prevented me from rushing from quest to quest. if you have gathering profession, try to take all those nodes, or simply all those POIs like chests, etc. If you have crafting, do that in between quests, or just pick an npc and follow them around for a bit.
interspersing different kinds of content makes the whole experience feel "larger" than it would be if you would first grind the story, then grind crafting, then rep, etc. too much of one thing without variety tends to feel straineous and we get fed up with it faster. TWW makes this really easy with Delves, follower dungeons, crafting specializations, etc.
    ## final tip: write your character's story ##
this is more niche and definitely not for everyone but writing a diary or chronicle of your adventure from the perspective of your character is super fun. I confess, I don't always do it, but I always think about the adventures in form on an episode of a series after a play session. Maybe imagine your character returning to your warband's camp and them talking about what happened to them recently. It's super fun, gives your character and the world more gravitas and who knows, maybe it inspires more, like writing a short story or drawing a comic about these adventures. I've done this since Legion and it made me rediscover wow all over again.
    ## final final tip/advice ##
Here is the most important thing and it's not what you think.
    >> Don't submit yourself to these "rules" (they aren't rules anyways). Forcing yourself to play side quests with a different character when you really wanna continue the story will have the opposite affect and makes it feel like a chore. allow yourself to switch it up if it doesn't feel right. In the end it's a game so play however you want to. There is no right way, nothing is mandatory.

I think a lot of us look for the "Best" videos not because we want to play the best class but because we want to gauge the scene. I have a DK and hunter alt I want to level second and if one is going to be considerably more fun/accepted/talked about/loved by blizzard then I want the healthier option. It's not so black and white like we all just want to go into an expansion playing the same shit.
When I watch best of videos, it's to see how each individual streamer feels going in. If every one of them put Disc priest at the bottom, maybe it's not the best option out of the gate. You get my point.

one of the nice things about wow is that every spec is playable up to the highest difficulty. there is no spec that will prohibit a mythic clear if there are two or three in the group. sure mythic +35 or world first require the absolute optimal comp. but these players don't need to watch a UA-cam video to figure that out and could probably beat everyone that does feel the need to follow them with any class anyway

I'm approaching the game like this way now. It's so much better and feel like I'm playing a game instead of always "Not falling behind." This mindset needs to be gone with already with min/maxing and making everyone feel like they need to do it as well.
Add me and we can explore the new zones together!

Ive been p[layng this way since SL. I do easy content for easy IL, then I go explore and play old content overgeared. I hate tanking for groups and I hate healing for groups. Because people suck. Occasionally I get a PuG for legendries or timewalking, then it's back to exploring the old world.

This was me 4 years ago genuinely baffled as to why everyone was so obsessed with playing a different covenant choice to the one they like the best, just because it gives them more DPS. Unless you’re pushing keys or trying to raid mythic, just play what you like the best.

my account was deleted about a year ago and I just came back with a new account. This is probably the best thing I could have done because now I can play the game for fun instead of playing it to keep up with everything and get everything, since I had so many rare things that are no longer available I was just playing to get more rarity value on my account. Now I can start fresh without having to worry about using any legacy transmogg stuff like ashbringer, challange mode armor / weapons, mounts and stuff.

I looked up some of these tier list videos, but only to find what class would fit my playstyle. I've realized I like easier classes that arn't as button spammy. I like healers that feel more classic where you mostly throw out big reactive heals. Those kinds of preview videos were quite helpful so that I can focus on playing a new class or sticking with an existing one that I'll enjoy.

I used to love exploring, questing, collecting achievements, pets and waiting for Huolon to drop the mount, but people kept asking "why is your item level so low?" and I just gave up on the game. I didn't want to have to study to play it, so I just decided it wasn't for me...

High end PVPers, raiders and M+s are often complaining about how there's never any fresh blood coming into their communities. I hope they see this and listen. lol

  • @k9tirion927
    @k9tirion927 5 місяців тому +3

You're obviously correct, the problem starts where community perception and "your fun" clash though.
For raiding it's usually not an issue, you need every class anyways and they're usually balanced good enough + raid buffs/utility help enough.
But M+? Gl getting into groups as a moonkin or destro lock/fire mage under current tuning (beta state) or whatever the perceived meta will be when m+ starts.
This is my main gripe and probably a big reason why tier lists are so popular, people want to game and not stare at the lfg and see -decline -decline -decline -decline -decline for half an hour because they picked "the wrong class".
