  • Film from the 1946 Indy 500 won by George Robson. It takes a little while for the film maker to figure out how to shoot cars going about 114 miles per hour. But he gets the hang of it and shoots some nice shots of vintage racers.

    This is great footage. I just wish we could hear those engines and the cheering of the crowd. Really I wish i could have been there.

    The 114.820 mph figure you see in the newspaper headline is the average speed for the whole race for the winner from start to finish. The cars go much faster than that down the straights, and slow down for the corners. Not to mention pit stops. ;)
