Not to mention we all had a choice between the understated gorgeous sexy “smart liberal” in glasses and blue jeans and the curvaceous blonde so stoically intelligent and conservative in tight dresses❤
It's crazy how watching these now, decades later, I realize what a magnificent character "Herb Tarlek" was! RIP Frank Bonner, I'm sorry I didn't appreciate you more when I was little.
What made KRP special was how all the characters came together into an amazing cast. Each had their role in making the show what it was. Would it have been WKRP without Herb? Les? Jennifer? Bailey? Andy? Venus? Johnny? Mr. Carlson? Mr. Carlson's mother? Or even Hirsch? That ensemble was magic. It was in perfect balance. Very rare to be able to catch that lightning in a bottle. Unfortunately it was before its time. But everytime I stumble upon an episode, I can't put it down and end up watching for the who knows how many-ith time. RIP KRP. You'll be wondered about as long as the late Boomers and Xers are still living on the air somewhere.
First time re-watching this since watching first time in 1980s. I love how Andy takes command when needed. He reminds we of my supervisor when WKRP was running.
The Pill Guy (the late Robert Ridgely) would find himself on mic 20 years later as the studio announcer for The Hollywood Showcase in That Thing You Do. Also The Colonel in Boogie Nights Thanks for posting these!
I wasn’t even a teenager but somehow I understood the brilliance and depth of this program and it is my favourite sitcom of all time. The proof that it is an incredibly high quality analytical program is that it was taken off the air while being very successful because it was criticizing the very medium it was on
Yeah, but marketing them to kids...it always amazed me how Dr. Johnny Fever's character hit the balance between the apparent wildness of his own experiences and indulgences, and the strict moral code that was always under the surface. Him calling the guy "reptilian" was totally consistent with his character.
My mom and I were driving someplace with an AM oldies station playing when a commercial came on: "My wife died last year. It was very sudden--" and my mom when "what the shit" and turned off the radio. Talk about WKRP come to life.
I saw this when it first aired. I was 9 years old and remember my older brother trying to explain it to me and his son, my cousin, who was 10 at the time.
One of my favorite episodes. I grew up watching this show, and would actually end up working in radio for about 15 years, and I loved the work. And I would re-watch this show and have a greater appreciation for it. In fact, I would have loved loved to have worked for a Program Director like Andy Travis, who actually went to bat for his crew. Most of the PDs I worked for weren't so great. Many of them were just glorified Operations Managers, who were just junkyard dogs for corporate.
There is actually a second verse that is very poignant. The lyrics say "the price of finding me was losing you" look for it on youtube - WKRP theme full version. Damned if it doesn't bring a tear to my eye hearing it
Worked in the restaurant industry for years in the late 70's and eighties. We took fake speed all the time."Caffeine. Yes this is an Episode that HIT particularly close to Home. Our Next step in "Staying on our toes" ....WAS COCAINE....which to all of our surprise had a much more lasting effect on our LIVES,...RELATIONSHIPS.....and our POCKETBOOKS...thank goodness after some time we got wise and SOBER...it took some longer and for some they never .."Got well" ...We were all in our twenties.....ME..? I didn't .."GET WELL" until I was 40 years old.....Wish I had Those LOST YEARS BACK...65 NOW..
This episode aired 10 days after the "Freezer Bowl" and the Cincinnati Bengals beat the San Diego Chargers 27-7 to go to the Superbowl. It was -37° that day ✌
Thank you for putting these out for free! We should all be able to enjoy vintage TV and music. It’s been enough time, the people keeping the public from these great memories should be ignored.
It was a low budget, bottom of the ratings radio station. Their turntables were often going on the fritz, with the DJ's often having to do their own repair and servicing jobs, as depicted in the _"Fire"_ episode...ua-cam.com/video/fHFKfiuTw0k/v-deo.html
Oh the good ole days of otc ephedrine at every gas station. Real not pseudo too. It actually cleared sinus congestion unlike the psuedo. Abusers make us all suffer.
Always the best bands: the likes of the Clash, the Pretender's, Marvin Gaye, et al. played and postered on the walls. Even back then, when American radio stations were never playing the likes of them and sucked almost as bad as they do today!
3:25 "When your mood is *Black* these little *Beauties* will keep ya' goin'!" Anyone else remember *Black Beauties?* 👀 (&, when exactly did the "Republicans" take speed back in the late '70's early '80's? Guess I missed that news report)
Don’t remember any specific stories, but in general the early 80’s saw a lot of de- regulation of various industries/ companies, and those movements were largely supported by economically Republican politicians. The ripple effect of those changes have lasted well into things like the opioid crisis.
It's only two spots a day during the week and four spots on Saturdays and Sundays. Why did Johnny and Venus keep playing the guys commercial over and over again for 2 hours?
As a kid of 80s, every rock and roll magazine sold fake speed made from efederin , so did dexatrim a popular weight loss pill . Efederin is a key ingredient in meth.
Just watched a video essay of how The Black Hole was supposed by Disney to be a knock off of Star Wars and it failed but eventually developed a film cult of it's own and ended up inspiring Event Horizon and maybe The British The office drank from WKRP and then...who cares, the two gals in this show were absolutely hot
How could an attorney get a LAW degree when he doesn't know the LAW? The 1st Amendment gives us freedom of speech. You can indeed call people scumbuckets, even police. It may not be kind, but it's legal.
I loved WKRP. At the same time, it’s interesting to note the vein of liberal scumbaggery that runs through the show’s character. In this episode Fever takes a principled stand against the OTC pill craze that was huge at the time and largely targeted teens. But still the pro-drug culture of Hugh Wilson and the rest of the writers along with Hessman’s Fever character shines through brightly (note how charmed and impressed Fever is when Nessman demonstrates a knowledge of drug street names). Then the thing about switching to downers after the republicans got in, and then the slam against the second amendment. Hollywood libs - they’ve always been scum.
One of the best theme songs of sitcoms, I loved this show.
no joke.!!!
Not to mention we all had a choice between the understated gorgeous sexy “smart liberal” in glasses and blue jeans and the curvaceous blonde so stoically intelligent and conservative in tight dresses❤
I had an idea that the theme song and show was based on Harry Chapin's WOLD song.
I sing along with it every time.
also go team bailey
Watched this when it first came out in 78...loved it then...and it still holds up all these yrs later.....one of the all time best shows ever made...
Oh my God! I just heard the intro song for the first time in 30 years.... reminded me of the 80s when I watched the show every day.

Show was so ahead of its time
desertmav8632 They predicted the future in so many ways.
Andy had the Best hair on TV in 1982
I crushed on him way back then.
I think Fever had great hair, too.
Loni had the worst.
Like a helmet.
Jan Smithers is gorgeous
First time re-watching this since watching first time in 1980s. I love how Andy takes command when needed. He reminds we of my supervisor when WKRP was running.
Frank Bonner could've had his own spinoff. I think he's brilliant. They're all great.
It would've worked too. He directed 6 episodes of krp, so he had the experience.
It's hard to take WKRP's lawyer seriously when you consider he goes home to ALF.
ALF didnt come into his life until 1986
It's hard to take a lawyer who says he will tell your mom.

Thanks for the great memories. Loved the show back in the 80's.
It is so good to see these shows again, thank you for the upload. Thumbs up!!
Greatest show of the era!
So many fond memories watching it with the parents, and later on after school TV in the 90s!
Can you imagine if Dr. Johnny Fever were here today, in Oregon, doing radio spots for dispensaries? I wish!
We saw Gordon Jump!😂😂😂😂
That pill pusher dude...he runs a BIG pharmaceutical company today.
Slarty Bartfast thanks to that Obamacare that big pharma wrote

Best show! Written brilliantly!
I still have a crush on Bailey Nickels 😆
Yes!! Thank you! Finally someone sees it the way I do lol. She was amazing!!!
Love that Ian Hunter poster.
Mott the Hoople is one of my favorites. Love the Doors poster too.
Have a safe holiday season all.
"I'm going to tell on you" okay, I'm done 😂😂
Ironically Dr. Johnny Fever won't endorse drugs but his character sure insinuated he consumed them.
He does in fact know Mary Jane, but he cut off the rest of her toxic friends. wink wonk.
@@202cardline Mary Jane who ? haha
The difference is the same between a pusher and a user.

"Once the Republicans got in, everybody switched to downers." - Dr. Johnny Fever
One of the best shows, ever.
The Wickerman pill-pusher reminds me a lot of Wilson Wilson on HOME IMPROVEMENT. They both talk and look similar.
Love how Johnny folds his arms when Herb is on the radio then the close up on Herb his hand is on back of chair

"We're not talking about right. We're talking about the law!" Max Wright giving me at 7 one of my first lessons in adulthood. RIP Alf's dad.
I loved Herb, even though he was a jerk sometimes! :)

True, but some episodes I wish Bailey would stop talking sometimes 🤣

17:25, ahhhh back in 1981 when your attorney could advise the station manager that using the word "scum" would be legally actionable and slanderous.
