Lanier is a terrific player in japan open.He uses a lot of energy but It's quite difficult for him to be consistent all the time.

Now that the badminton world has noticed AL, coaches will study his play more and prepare their charges better to handle him. Same thing always happens to young players making a successful entry into the top echelons and before they know it, the road becomes harder and harder. Good luck to AL, we wish him all the best as Everest awaits the next conqueror

That's a really good observation! It will be interesting to see what the other players/coaches come up with to counter him, and whether he can adapt his playstyle once they do.

Where to get that web of skills of every player ?

Quite interesting focus but you didn't comment on mentally skills, ok he has to improve net game deception game, finding a way to spare his energy and so on... but for high level performance you need a strong mental and I think he's getting more and more expérience with high level player and is showing how his mental is getting strong. We will see with asian players like the japanese that can handle pressure (what a player he would be when he could have a trainer like Momota)

    Very interesting!!
    Earned my subsciption.
How do you rate the players in the different categories though, simply by using the eye test?
Because I don't think that Lainier, while being an exceptional player, has quite the same speed of movement as prime Lee Chong Wei.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it and subscribed!
Your assumption about the category ratings is correct. I just did them by feeling in order to give an impression of the players' strenghts and weaknesses. I agree that prime LCW was probably faster than current Lanier, although it would be very complicated to test something like that!
Out of curiosity, are there any other players you would like to see similar profiles on? I am currently working on analyzing a few.

@@Shuttlemoments Thanks for your reply! Yes I Like the idea of your rating in the different categories, even if I don’t agree with everything, but I think that’s unavoidable and also what makes it fun :)
Maybe you could do some all time rankings for each category - like top 10 quickest players ever, top 10 most mentally tough…
Other players I‘d be interested in include Loh Kean Yew, the unorthodox Lee Zii Jia, Axelsen or prime Momota. Any top singles players really.
      Cheers!

It will be fun to see if Lanier can laugh till the very end
