I am a Sri Lankan Buddhist just beginning to do some gardening. Very happy to see a statue of Buddha among the beautiful Anthurium plants. Thanks for the presentation.
Thank you! I just acquired an anthurium that is very tall like the leaves and blooms are competing with each other and I have no idea how to re-pot it. The leaves are huge and the blooms are small. It's the only plant left living in a pot sold as "mixed tropical plants" from Lowe's and I think it's years old judging by the root exposure. I'm pretty sure it's living just for spite at this point. So I want to make sure it gets the best care from now on! You gave excellent information.

Hello. I'm from Hyderabad, and bought myself an anthurium 3 months back. It did well for a while, but of late, it hasn't been blooming, and the leaves are yellow/browning, and new leaves' tips are drying out too! I think I may have over watered it. Don't quite know what to do. Should I repot it? It's still in its plastic container from the store. Is that bad? Also, the climate here is really dry. So it might not be getting its requisite humidity either? Please help. I want to get into gardening and this is the first plant I bought!
Thanks for your video. My anthurium is in a bathroom which faces north, close to window. It is 55-65 degrees all winter and moist. I water only when soil feels dry to my finger. I soak the plant for a minute in rainwater. Too much? My leaves turn brown near the stem and the brown spreads into the leaf and on some flowers. I have cut them off. It has several blooms otherwise now for 3-4 months, but always some brown on leaves as described. Advice? And why do you mulch with charcoal? One video i watched suggested bone meal for flowering via phosphorus. Your thoughts on that? Thank you!
Charcoal helps absorb a lot of fungal rot. And helps in aeration. I guess yours is a fungal infection you can treat with some neem oil, baking powder and soap solution. And I would not recommend the north for a flowering plant indoors. East or better a filtered south west side would be ideal
Wow and thank you for such a quick and thorough reply. Where do you suggest I buy neem oil and what would be the instructions for using the neem oil, baking soda and soap solution as you advise? Thanks again! @@Urbanscapegardening
@@craiglozzi5391 you may check your local supermarket may be an Indian section. Add two tea spoons of Neem oil and soap solution and 1 table spoon baking soda. Add in 2 litres of water and spray
Final questions: the charcoal, is it the same a what people use to barbecue or is it different? Where to buy, if so? You mentioned to add compost only for fertilizer. I read that bone meal, because of potassium, helps encourage blooms. What do you think? I have lots of potash from my wood stove: will that provide the same nutrients for blooming as bone meal, if you even recommend it? And how much and how often applied? And only add compost during spring and summer during growth season? Thanks again for you time and wisdom.
