a cool idea for a ranger I had, would be like a hunter who had been caught poaching from some sort of noble, and offered the choice to serve as a scout for the nobles militia rather than face justice.
A cool and already well established character type for a modern day "Urban Hunter" is basically the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s of the respected universe(s) They roam in the dead urban and sub-urban areas of Chernobyl Exclusion zone hunting for magical artefacts, age old supplies or just for adventure. I'd like to see a Stalker type character in say, Shadowrun. I'm sure there are many haunted exlusion zones or ruined cities in that universe too.
Tho they are not explored much, the game Blades in the Dark has a sort of victorian steampunk fantasy version of this. In this world, ghosts come out at night to kill people, however, the sun has disappeared at some point, so now it is always night. As such, humanity mostly lives in giant cities that have barriers to keep the ghosts out. There is a faction called the Deathland Scavengers, who sneak outside cities to the incredibly dangerous ghost filled lands for rare plants and materials. I also like the idea that since you don't really have many materials within the city, and transporting from city to city is expensive, they might be looking through the ruins of old towns for things as mundane as good quality steel.
Fantastic video as always! The big game hunter is a great specification for adventurer characters. Now I know what my next one shot is gonna be focused on!
Hey! Not much to add to this; I think you did a very good exposé on theme fantasies. (Kind of interested on making a Knife Fighter who is a chef; Now we're Cooking with Ka-bars!) I do think the Big Game Hunter wouldn't work well within a modern setting, because players tend to be entirely unaware of their loose morals when engaging in murderhobo behaviour. They'll kill swathes of enemies without mercy, decapitate any defeated enemy who still lives after the encounter, have absolutely zero empathy for anyone in the world... But poaching? That's just _wrong._ Because they don't really know they're merciless mass-murderers; they perceive themselves as the heroes.
this actually has given me ideas on how to expand my own "Jeager" class and adding two others, Jaeger would be a social based class (all social based classes have combat aspects, even if small.) with extra stuff about money handling, prepping animals, negotiating(prices.),and would from start be able to read, given by the class,ESPECIALLY the "big game hunter" variant, would have a lot of persuade, influence, reads a lot, type stuff, all given in exchange for combat proficiency. the ranger(Saboteur) would share some skills, tracking, hunting, and have special social bits specifically from/about small groups, would be kinda like the combat version of the Jaeger. beastmaster, would be a lot like you were talking about, and i'm actually thinking of bringing the drone master into a sci-fi setting i've been "working on".
I always enjoy these videos, especially since I'm also replaying Baldur's Gate. Also have you played Outer Worlds yet? I'm waiting till 2020 so I can own it on GOG.
Oke, here we go. Unconventional party and scenario idea. A team of scientists. 3 of them. A genetic engineer (I know, such original, hear me out) an electronics inventor (gadgets galore) and a female chemist/glorified secretary to the genetic engineer. A beast master, or more specifically a hound master (more details below) A crown prince (think prince of Saudi kind of crown prince) and a Inuit Hunter. The scenario, the big hunt as you will. A giant Narwal. Because why not. The year 2105. The genetic engineers have made giant legendary Narwals the size of sperm whales and the scientists are hunting down their own creation because it posed too big of a threat to the eco-system. So they plan to hunt down the two female Narwals. The idea is to cirkel around Antarctica with some dog sleds. Future dogs. mechanical legs. The Prince is merely there because he intercepts everyone's emails and read about the scientist planning to do this. He just bought his way into the party. He wields this big ass high tech shotgun/blunder bust type of thing. (overkill and OP but he can't handle the thing, so every turn his accuracy decreases.) The female chemist is an excellent chemist but the engineer doesn't acknowledge her abilities and he just merely brought her along to do things for him like carry/make/serve the coffee and the meals. That should be enough to get some people started.

Focussed beastmaster = Pokemon Gym Leader.

Thank you Burger. You always present these ideas of tropes in such a new light that it makes me want to write inspired off your point of view.
I was thinking more monster hunters. Like in bloodborne or kinda like the witcher.
Ok, so I came to this channel from Zeino... And I cannot stop watching your vids, they are amazing! Good job m8.

Have you not heard of bow fishing? Rest assured, sometimes fisherman do in fact use a bow and arrow.
I gotta check that shit out
Yeah I have an actual fishing bow, they’re super long and are mainly used in river fishing.
Blake Pinette that “protection from arrows” thing can be circumvented by using a “trout's bane” enchantment on the fishing bow.

mmmm. Always liked some good SAC.
Does this make Ash Ketchum a beast master?
Especially now since he finally beat the God damn league.
03:00 So cows.
I'd like to scout for a nice, cold glass of water to drink. Care to join me in my hydration?
