Not sure how you came up on my scroll, but grateful it did. Loved hearing your story man, very similar upbringing with divorced parents and leaning on video games to help pass the time.
Good conclusion at the end...if I had friends that were getting into emulation I would tell him to keep it simple. Start with the emulator itself and learn it, add games, map controls, etc. And then after you have a few emulators maybe start looking in the front ends. And then start looking at hardware. That was the route I took from learning the stuff and it has come pretty easy, even though I know it was a lot of information. Mainly because I took it slow and one at a time. Now I can maintain my setup very easily since I know it in and out. These all-in-one systems are very tempting for people that don't have the time or focus to learn the stuff. But I could see them to be very frustrating in the hands of someone that doesn't enjoy tinkering with technology. My setup is pretty simple... Big box is my front end, retroarch for my consoles, MAME for arcade, and then Visual Pinball X my pinball. The only other emulator I have is Dolphin which I use for GameCube. I use two Xbox controllers and a double arcade stick with six buttons each, with a spinner and a ball
@@mamefan I think so. Though it does also help to have decent hardware... Such as a relatively modern processor and a decent Nvidia graphics card. I use a 1060 and it can do anything that I throw at it, lots of upscaling on the older consoles too. Though, I also keep my setup pretty simple, relative to a setup like yours where it has literally everything. I was lucky to stumble across ETA Primes youtube videos where he shows step by step how to set up all the emulators and also the BigBox front end. I also followed a few other UA-camrs suggestions about retroarch settings for certain cores. Check out my last video in my channel it shows my current build
Great review! Definitely took some notes as a potential future owner of one of these machines. Appreciate the unedited train of thought look at everything!
you are seriously a fucking god for making this video. Your set up is deceptively big. It just looks like a normal set up, but man is the screen a big one. I've been casually watching your videos for quite a long time, and I've been meaning to give this an entire watch because you basically spare no expense in describing your system, and it's helping me figure out if I'll ever make one of these behemoths. Such a beautiful build. I'm glad you were able to iron out all the issues with the manufacturers. But yeah I always look forward to see what games you're jamming out on. Thanks so much for your channel, you beast you. I just love the whole detailing of basically your entire life in arcade gaming. Awesome to have the amount of effort you put in and you inserting all of the images too.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Like you, I am very “picky” and care a lot about the minor details (and rightfully so due to the price). You addressed a lot of the issues I was curious about but nobody would mention in other Megacade videos. My OCD kicked in when I saw 500 versions of The Simpsons. I was surprised how sloppy and inconsistent the wheel was. That would drive me insane. My wife says thank you for saving me ~$7,000.
@@TheBigb1973 i have a dirt cheap low cost DIY arcade cabinet since 2019 and of today after swithcing it to a PC i only have between 50-60 arcade Games on it. Once in a while i see a game wich i feel i need.
3:26 Same here lol, emulation has come a long way! I've messed with MAME for years but it's not the same without the cab to play it on. Excited to get my cab soon. Your dedication to the hobby is most excellent sir.
I love all your videos. I’ve watched this one a few times and appreciate your honesty. I thought about buying one of these machines from them but I went with the Beast arcade machine from Xtreme Gaming Cabinets. Keep up the good work on your videos. You’ve given me a lot of obscure games to try out when I get my arcade machine.
This is the best video on EHA! I love how you talk. You talk casual shit like a regular Joe! And you tell the good, the bad and the in depth details that no other reviewers have. This review is so good I'm NOT going to be buying a machine in the near future. I'll probably wait 5 years and hope everything will be squared by then. I mean it is retro shit.
Are u not happy with your extreme home arcade? Please elaborate. I just put $500 down based on all these great reviews on UA-cam. Then as soon as I put money down I see this shit show. This guy had nothing but trouble. Very worried now.
After building arcades for the past 2 years I’ve learned that there’s no thing as a perfect custom arcade...I demand that my customers own their machines and be as handy as possible to make improvements and fix issues when they come up..no amount of money you throw at this will get you a perfect arcade..
Built my own, it ended up costing over 20k, but I can now say it's everything I ever wanted and overkill like you wouldn't believe. Like the saying says, if you want something done right your have to do it yourself!
If you spend this kind of money, the seller should be selling filtered software. All loaded software should work as well as it can. I'm super anal about not loading stuff just to load it if it's a bad experience. People selling 5 grand cabinets that just keep imaging drives should invest the time.
Nice work, the time you took to show it talks about the time and effort you have placed into this awesome project. Totally agree on what you mentioned about an upgrade to the pc components but other than that, and some other minor adjustments you mentioned as well, this cabinet is one of the top references I've seen. Hope you make some time to enjoy all those games in your favorites! Have fun!!!
That arcade setup is really handsome!!!!!!! You're handsome 2!!!! :) I have a couple of arcade wall frames in my living room. Some could look sooo nice in your game room. I save as some fotos from the web, and use vistaprint to make em into posters. Then order the framing on amazon.
Appreciate the plug… I'm with you 100% on the control panel. I told David that I didn't even want the acrylic cover and had mine sent without it. Having worked for an amusement company that owned a ton of Golden Tee machines back in the day, I can tell you that the Happ trackballs are as legit as they get. You can rebuild them with a bearing kit if you want. You won't be disappointed if you use the black mesh baskets for your light gun cables.
I've really wanted to get an EHA for quite a few years now. I have a hyperspin system set up with an xarcade tankstick on a pedestal for now. However there really is absolutely no excuse for them not to have game systems like the Wii and such controls mapped by now. For the price they charge and the years in business they should have every system in their builds ready to play immediately. Ridiculous
@@mamefan ya but the point is they use pretty much the sane hardware and setup on all the machines they build and have been doing this for years, they could have gone through all the systems by now and have them mapped. Shouldn't have to ask them to do so unless you tell them you plan on using different controllers.
Blimey a lot of games didn't work needs some serious configuration on the hyperspin backend. The internal hardware build is horrendous - really shoddy work. Love the Marquee really makes it stand out. Thanks for the brilliant and really HONEST video 👊
Really cool review! I'm loving what i've seen so far. I dont think the review about the arcade sticks being angled is accurate for not liking them though because hypothetically you can say the same about playing with controllers for console games and someone is sitting on a side sofa on an angle but we still instinctively know to press down on the d pad to go down on the screen, the controllers dont change based on how we sit know what i mean? But i love all the stuff i been seeing so far im still going through it cause its a super long review but kudos on also talking about the gun holsters on the side its really something to keep in mind of with purchasing it. Love all the stuff i seen so far! Kudos
I've switched from Hyperspin to LaunchBox/BigBox fairly recently on my cabinet and have never looked back. It now has integrated dynamic marquee, tons of themes, fade screens, pause screen, and bezels can be handled by MAME and Retroarch. Basically eliminating the need for RocketLauncher, which was nice. Much easier for setting up and customizing. Cool cabinet and video!
@@mamefan Yes, I don't currently use bezels, but I've tried them on MAME... some older ones. I haven't tried bezels yet on Retroarch, I just know it works. I plan on eventually getting around to that.
Great review, This is comprehensive as you can get to have someone considering it make an informed decision! I recently ordered a Stealth version and David over at EHA offered to build a custom playlist (has to be under 200 titles), since I don't much care for tens of thousands of titles that I know I'll never play...
We’re the same age. I grew up in an arcade as a Sega kid. I had all the consoles. Master System, Genesis, Sega CD (with 32X) + the power base converter. We grew up in the best era
Hey Mame-fan,Thanks for sharing your honoust experience with your “Megacade”.Now I no what to expect and might consider other options..Have a Nice day dude
Bro. First, love the channel, love the mame love. I’m right there with you. I’m almost done with this video and it really bums me out that you’re having to deal with so many compromises. I know there’s a million different setups, but I do think you’d truly be happier with a recroommasters cabinet. From there, add the monitor, speakers and cpu. If you’re concerned about that part, don’t be. It’s easy as hell ESPECIALLY if you only care about mame. Recroommasters is already pre configured for mame. So the final piece is launchbox not hyperspin. It makes an elegant, refined gaming system that’s only what you want. All for under 2k. I’m gonna post a video of mine and hopefully it looks more like what you want.
Your review is gangsta bro. I really enjoy DThomas and Scantron etc and how upbeat and feel-good those videos are. However, your raw uncensored feedback is a great ballance. I also liked how in-depth you went into your history and experience with emulation and hardware. It gives you a heap of credibility. I first got into emulation (MAME) 20yrs ago when I was at university and still have the very first version I downloaded. I also bought an X-Arcade and a couple of other pieces of hardware. Unfortunately a wife and kids have put a hold on things for now but I’ll get back into things at some stage. Thanks for the upload man. Really enjoyed the full 3hrs🤣
2:15 I feel the same way. Arcade games still make me happy. I JUST got a steam deck, so it has been the most feasible way for me to get back into MAME. It’s been a decade or more, so I’m back to tinkering with ROMs and Bios and location of my files…. But I’m loving it. Got my favorite all time childhood game running (Wardner/Pyros), so I’m a pretty happy camper.
Can I ask a off topic question at the 44:05 mark in the background it looks like a ticker on your wall can I ask where you got that and how you set that up? Nice video BTW
launchbox doesn't automatically add bezels for our games i didn't think. im using the free version right now maybe the premiumm version and big box have auto bezels.
@@mamefangotcha. i saw all you're bezels you made available to download through google i think and you have a killer package man. u do a really good job. i literally love bezel art so much i get excited. im a nerd, lol. if there's no bezel i don't even want to play the game sometimes.
Thanks for the honest review. Ive seen alot of these Extreme Home arcade videos where they show everything to be perfectly working which almost had me convinced. I once spent months setting up a hyperspin and rocketlauncher and it crashed and reset everything to defaults, ive since moved on to bigbox which has gotten alot better recently with backups etc. I know a guy who sells these drives for 7+ years and his drives have issues. The only way this company could deliver on the software was if they had a team of IT that separately worked on these drives by platform, then you would need a windows programmer on site who worked as engineer to troubleshoot the windows problems. More games more problems...
Yo MAME-FAN!!! That was a very thorough review! It was informative, knowledgeable, but very subjective in parts, which is fine because it is your opinion. The Manhattan Project will definitely clean up the wheel and organize the way you like it. Thanks for your always HONEST opinions and your generosity in providing your bezels and hi-res artwork to the community!!! MP will use lots of your stuff for sure! That stuff takes time and dedication and it is much appreciated! The Bezel Project will be added and include actual game bezels for over thirty systems! There will also be moves lists for MAME fighting games!
@@mamefan thanks. I’m having one built (different company) and currently really confused about the joystick orientation issue you mentioned for players 3 and 4. The internet seems really torn on this issue as well.
@@mamefan I think I agree. Thanks again. Extemely helpful video. This is the stuff people need to know before spending this kind of money. Take care and enjoy the machine
i just discovered front ends and am currently using launchbox. is hyper spin a free front end or pay?? thanks for your ultimate wisdom mame-fan. us sega kids got to stick together. what's the best front end in your opinion??
Nice to see someone tell the truth about a product. A lot of times when people buy expensive things, they don't always want to admit it's not perfect. They clearly need to upgrade their hardware and filter their games.
Iv never seen anyone have so much trouble with extreme home arcades. I just put $500 down. This video makes me wonder if I'm not getting ripped off. Thoughts please
Maybe, you'll get a better build? I usually just use MAME and have no issues. If I go to other systems, shit gets screwy. People are working on improving it (Manhattan project) right now.
Man i bought mine back from when they were dream home arcades back in 2015 and they pissed me off royally. All used computer parts, half of the emulators and games worked. It would freeze up constantly and the joysticks didn't work. They charged me for Xbox 360 controllers and sent me off brand Xbox controllers. Dave wouldn't help with the pc issues. I ended up contacting an online emulation expert and he sent me a whole new pc and hyperspin drive and it worked flawlessly. Your pretty much paying for their build not the pc at all
Even though there's like 35,000 roms in MAME, there are only about 3,200 working, playable arcade video games in MAME, excluding mahjong and slot machine games. And a lot of the video games are in Japanese, so some of them are kind of unplayable (quiz games, etc.) unless you read Japanese.
Its good to now someone else is having the same problems as i am having with my arcade machine, i paid 3000 for mine and have a very similar setup emulation wise. Controls not working right ,games crashing ,everything in wide-screen apart from mame. I updated my windows recently now all i get is a black screen on hyperspin startup. I have to play everything through rocket launcher now.
MAME-FAN thank you for taking the time for such a detailed and unedited review. I only want to play MAME arcade games running on a PC. Although I respect Dave and his team at EHA. Who would want to wait for an entire year and spend top dollar money for just Arcade games?? Or even worse system failures old programming and functionality. To me that is not good investment. I ended getting a 2TB MAME Only system running on a i5. I switched out my joysticks for seimitsu joystick / buttons / tension springs and restrictive gates. I couldn’t be any happier. Have a very clean arcade MAME only plug and play system. Just want people know if you only want MAME only I recommend PC cause raspberry Pi doesn’t run some MAME games as well.
I've tried getting that starwars arcade to work for decades. It just doesn't. Also, the Killer Instinct titles are SO HARD to get working, but I've heard that it does though it takes a lot. The fact that they are working for you is awesome. Even though this review is 3 years old, I find it valuable. I know the newer drives have a much better front end than Hyperspin, and I expect there have been many improvements, mostly from the community, over the years. Great review. I can't believe I watched the whole thing.
Wow you are bringing me back, I was around and remember all these emulators you mentioned. Awesome video, will need to watch it in parts :). Great cabinet and love that marquee. Would love to get one of those for mine at some point.
this is an amazing honest review!! thank you so much!!!..I have been thinking to buy one this holiday and you answered a lot of my questions. I have messed around with Roms too and found them glitchy and non responsive hence my hesitation to buy this for anything other than the MAME Games. I have a question about the MAME emulator games specifically. Do they all work and do they all work like they are expected too? Meaning giving you that same feel and authenticity you get from playing the real old school arcade games... also is Killer Instinct 2 on the MAME list of games? Thank you
Thanks. MAME can't play every game, for example, many Sega 3D games. You'd use other emulators for those. Some 3D games need a good PC to run full speed. Most games run perfectly though. Yeah, killer instinct 2 is. I did a video of it.
Thanks. I don't know what EHA is uaing now. I'm still using the same PC since it runs most MAME games fine. I do need to upgrade though. I have an i7 8700k with a 2070 that I could use but haven't gotten around to making the switch.
Appreciate your raw and bitter commentary. Got a cocktail table from that other “dream arcade” company you mentioned about 16 years ago, but it never really scratched the itch. Need a great upright arcade. Will consider EHA along with other options.
@@mamefan right. I meant I bought from dream arcades in California. The other one. Actually still good 15 years later (replaced pc twice, running coinops now a days) but still feel all crammed on a cocktail table.
Nah. I’ve upgraded mame and the rom set 100 times. On 0.237 now. Recently built a new pc for it too. But the original cabinet, trinitron crt, and ipac ultimarc controls are still alive and well.
So quick question I have a high end rental on the lake and would love to add a arcade to the basement. I have spoken to Dave and he said there is a way to limit to just arcade classics for ease of use for renters to understand and use. Would you recommend this machine over arcade legends 3 or creative arcade setups ... thanks for making the video I was getting stressed watching all the issues with the software.
Even if it was just arcade classics, something would go wrong, and your renters wouldn't know how to fix it. That always happens if I leave it alone with people. I'd get whatever's easiest for the total layman to use. Something based on Windows and Hyperspin isn't it.
Damn bro. You and me have the same exact taste in retro video games. That machine is insane. I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 4 and added a bunch of old school 80s and 90s games to it. Some of the arcade roms (such as ESWAT, Rolling Thunder, Superman, and Golden Axe) aren't working though. Can you shoot me over some working arcade roms?
@@mamefan I tried that site, but couldn't get the roms I need. Can you email me some working arcade roms (such as ESWAT, Rolling Thunder, Superman, and Golden Axe)? Thanks.
Also just a tip... a lot of the retro consoles run great with RetroArch, in which you have unified controls. Each system uses its on RetroArch core. I personally have 43 different systems running from RetroArch. Makes things alot easier!
Looking at your name wheel you need to disable clones in rocketlauncher, my wheel only has one entry per game. The guy who put that together forgot to click that option most likely.
Most of these arcade companies buy their hard-drives pre-built from from like ali-express or some shit, you can tell because common games like Mario 64 are broken, these companies don't play test these things and China sure as shit isn't either. HyperSpin is not user friendly at all (I don't think the code has been updated in years). LaunchBox with BigBox is currently my favorite to use for my home arcade, very easy to use and is updated just about every month. It sucks that you pay so much money for something and it just doesn't work 100% out of the box, but I also understand people not wanting to mess with software, finding roms, playtesting etc, or using powertools to build their own.
Seems like they didn't know how to set up ps3 emulation. Set right rpcs3 runs in the background and the games loads perfect. Emulation is spotty, but latest versions loads a lot of games well now.
hey mame fan i had a question. if i have a file dump of the original dragons lair cd rom will that work instead of having the original physical copy?? also frame files i have but don't seem to work, i dunno anymore. any pointers??? when i click on dragons lair it says cannot find laser disc player. for mame i got the chd files for cliffhanger and ash's enrunmilla which are laser disc games by daphne/stern. no chd files for dl?
Laser disc games mostly don't work with MAME. Use Daphne. Let me know if you want all of my files. Did you ask before? I don't know a lot about laser disc games but have them working.
My favourite games to play in the arcade were the driving games, Daytona, Crazy Taxi, Sega Rally etc. Without a wheel this machine would not appeal much to me, but great, in depth review. Good job and congratulations on owning it.
@@mamefan thanks for the reply. A small wheel around where the track ball is, and some pedals at the bottom would be perfect. Do you ever play Wrestlefest?
I appreciate your unbiased honesty. No offence to DC Thomas but he is positive about everything about it, acting like there are no flaws in it whatsoever, because he most likely got a discount to promote it. But you are honest, if something is crap about it you will say it. It’s refreshing.
Great video. The cab looks like it's well built and looks awesome. Kind of a bummer that there's so many issues with the software. I guess when you have so much different stuff installed it's bound to have some issues.
Love the video! A few questions…do you feel like the 50” is too big or would you stick with that size if you did it again? I feel like it might be too close to the screen. Second, in your more recent videos, your marquee appears situated flush against the top of the screen. Have you modified this since then?
Thanks. I think 50" is fine, but I could see some people thinking too big. Those flush videos are an edit in a video editor to make everything look better. By getting rid of that black part in btw, it makes the game more visible. Also, I use a marquee image instead of showing the actual marquee LCD bc it looks better that way. Two screens on camera is hard to get looking good.
Hello MAME-FAN. Really love this video. I truly enjoy watching down to earth and brutally honest review and this is definitely one..subscribed immediately. I've just received my pedestal from EHA a couple weeks ago and I'm not having as much fun as I thought I would once it arrived. Though no fault of EHA, this is mainly an issue dealing with emulation and Hyperspin or what have you. Anything from games not playing, sound or control issues. I'm using my own controllers, so any mapping guidance would be nice. Don't know why I expected this to be plug n play. I'm aware this is the nature of this community, but could you make a video addressing the problems we all may face and the ones that gets under your skin. I've experimented with the Raspberry Pi, so I knew emulation wasn't perfect, but after spending thousands on a pedestal..I need more in depth and personal information from another owner of a MAME setup. I know you only care about the arcade games, but I'd like to hear any input from your perspective. Like I mentioned before...brutally honest. Thanks for the videos man. Keep up the good work and please post more.
Thanks! There's a facebook group called Extreme Home Arcade Owners Unite where people post all of the time, and people there know a lot more than me about EHA issues. I could help you with MAME (aka Arcade Classics) specifically though.
I probably will but haven't followed it closely. The main reason I would is to get Teknoparrot games (much newer arcade games) that MAME can't emulate.
I am fabbing a MAME mach and love your art work on your control board. The grey multi-brand backing. I want to wrap my sides in that art. Where would I get that art to have my guy print the wrap?
Cool review of this Megacade! I was actually looking at purchasing one for myself until I saw the price and figured it would be cheaper to source the cabinet cut outs and build one myself. With your knowledge is there a reason why you didn't? Apart from that, I too have a pretty vast collection of arcade machines many of which are Sega classics. They do break down and I had to learn how to trouble shoot them with the help from the online communities. It's a fun hobby but I wouldn't recommend any of this to anyone who doesn't have basic computer or electronic skills. Love the pins by way!
Bc I'm lazy and didn't want to build and wire it all up. I thought the drive would be better than this too. At least I have all of the roms without having to search for them. I can always re-do the non-MAME software myself if I want to. I already did that with MAME.
Man, I really felt you the whole time, this is my type of a review cos I'm like you. I don't care for the good stuff that is just advertisement, I wanna know what's the bad stuff deep down. So thank you for this, but one thing. You said you got a little one up there, try to keep the cursing to the minimum for the little ones sake. Otherwise you can seriously double for Mark Walberg with the tone and everything :)
Good to know bro, keep these quality videos up. Great you kept your cool the whole time, if I didn't build this myself I'd wanna sledgehammer the screen but then again the cost.
I watched the entire video and didn't notice the swearing. I played the beginning again to see what cuss words I missed, if any. I would never have noticed otherwise. 🤣😂
i saw on google you've uploaded your entire bezel catalogue. it's epic. it won't work with my mame program though. im using the basics where you need a default .lay file. do you have any .lay file bezels from old school mame??? thanks for any help and god bless.
is rocket launcher a front end and is it worth getting??? im new to the game. grew up in the 80's in the arcades and when i discovered mame my whole life has changed. then adding bezels, snaps, and all that other good stuff it just is such a fun thing i love to do. i literally love love bezels.
@@mamefan mr. do?? lol. ive already pillaged his work. appreciate all your help to a beginner. ive never found so much joy in bezel art. like i frefuse to play a game without a dope bezel.
Rocketlauncher is called a launcher, not a front end. I use it to display bezels and fade screens (those screens I show with flyers and cabinet images). It's free but kinda complicated.
This video convinced me to abandon my plans for a Extreme Home Arcades machine and order a Rec Room Masters 32" w/ Hyper Arcade Systems hard drives instead which addresses the hyperspin menu clutter & disorganization that annoys you so much. I know it would annoy me as well so thanks for this in depth review.
@@Irraptured It's great so far. Even have a working LCD marquee like in this video (but from Pixelcade, not china) and just got a new controller with LED joysticks and buttons (Rec Room Masters) to work with LEDBlinky program that lights up the controls for which game you are on. TV install was easy the first time, little more work getting it out and back in the second time when I upgraded. The ROMS were plug n play, just plugged in three 8TB external hard drives. To me most everything has been a breeze but this isn't my first PC build either, it's like my 5th or so. Anything difficulties I did have were solved by great customer support from pixelcade, rec room masters, and hyper arcade systems. There is still some clutter in the drives because there is just so much, but not nearly as bad because hyper arcade systems is always working on it and updating. Now I have it all up and running in only 2 months instead of waiting 10 for it to be delivered. I made the correct decision.
@@SmokeRingHalo Thanks for the detailed reply! Yeah, I've definitely ditched Extreme Home Arcades as my option, it's come down to between Rec Room Masters, or ArcadesRFun. Your reply will definitely help me with my decision. Glad you're enjoying yours!

Not sure how you came up on my scroll, but grateful it did. Loved hearing your story man, very similar upbringing with divorced parents and leaning on video games to help pass the time.
Incredible video, man. Thanks for taking the time to give this such an exhaustive review. 👏
I tried Retroarch and had a lot of problems bc many of the cores wouldn't work. That was years ago. Maybe, it's better now?
When it comes to roms, quality over quantity is a good criteria
The most honest review on this megacade no sugarcoat thanks bro !
I like how his active marquee coordinate with the screen
dude that shits seriously so awesome
Thank you, but I'm not a god. Don't tell Gozer.
Those Simpsons versions are only if you look at the All Games genre in MAME. It's not something you'd normally see.

Thanks for sharing. As a pinball/arcade game collector myself, I enjoyed watching your videos.
Haha love the rant. Let's be real. We all rant like this but talk to ourselves, thanks for posting

Thank you, Hassan!
Great video! It's good to know the imperfections it has before someone buys.
Dude you are my hero. Thank you for giving an honest review and saying what alot of us non-fanboy owners want to say.
Are u not happy with your extreme home arcade? Please elaborate. I just put $500 down based on all these great reviews on UA-cam. Then as soon as I put money down I see this shit show. This guy had nothing but trouble. Very worried now.

It wasn't "nothing but trouble." Some stuff works, and some doesn't. If you want it all to work without effort on your part, don't buy it.

Have fun!!!
I know what you mean, there was something special about arcade games back in the day, I still love them and wish they were more prevalent
Did you use a bearing kit?
@@mamefan on my current trackball, no, not needed yet. But I've definitely done them in the past. Super easy and totally worth it.
Ridiculous
Maybe, if you ask for every system to work with the panel, they'll do that. I assumed it would be that way but nope.
@@mamefan ya but the point is they use pretty much the sane hardware and setup on all the machines they build and have been doing this for years, they could have gone through all the systems by now and have them mapped. Shouldn't have to ask them to do so unless you tell them you plan on using different controllers.
@@tryven1 I would expect for 6 grand that you wouldn't have to do any kind of configuring yourself.
Kudos
Thanks. I can't play console games at an angle from the TV. I'm straight on.
This is a really good review - love how you approached it
I've switched from Hyperspin to LaunchBox/BigBox fairly recently on my cabinet and have never looked back. It now has integrated dynamic marquee, tons of themes, fade screens, pause screen, and bezels can be handled by MAME and Retroarch. Basically eliminating the need for RocketLauncher, which was nice. Much easier for setting up and customizing. Cool cabinet and video!
Thanks. By MAME bezels, you mean the old .lay type? I tried retroarch once and couldn't fully figure it out. Some cores didn't work.

I thought about getting one for MAME, but I never travel. I could take it to work, but I'd get caught playing games.

Your pretty much paying for their build not the pc at all
Candy Hostetler I was just thinking the same
Even though there's like 35,000 roms in MAME, there are only about 3,200 working, playable arcade video games in MAME, excluding mahjong and slot machine games. And a lot of the video games are in Japanese, so some of them are kind of unplayable (quiz games, etc.) unless you read Japanese.
My fav list must have most. It's around 2500 games.
This is so sick, howd you get the top screen to switch to whatever game your playing? Ive never seen that on a cabinet

I have to play everything through rocket launcher now.
01:34:00 Agree 100%. All included games should work with the panel, no excuses.
That theme is amazing. What is the name of that theme you use to choose games? Is it available for retropie also or just for BigBox?
I'm using Hyperspin as my front-end. Each game and system has its own theme.
I like the idea of having a large 50 inch tv in a mame cabinet, I will do this in my next place I move to.
Horizontal lines in cliff hanger might be vsync, I think daphne supports turning that on
Welcome to the world of angled player 3 and 4. The gfx around the stick is really needed so people know which way is up since its not intuitive
how did you wind up getting Hyperspin to stop launching automatically at startup? That is currently driving me insane on my machine
Yeah, that was one of the first things I did. I think I looked in Win10 startup and disabled whatever it was that was launching it.
How much is shipping for your size? That looks like the thin version. Super enjoyable video!
It's the biggest version AFAIK. I don't think I paid extra for shipping.
Thanks. Killer Instinct 1 & 2 work fine in MAME. You just need the right roms and CHD files.

EHA used to be Dream Home Arcades. Hope it's not the same place.
@@mamefan right. I meant I bought from dream arcades in California. The other one. Actually still good 15 years later (replaced pc twice, running coinops now a days) but still feel all crammed on a cocktail table.
Are you running MAME from 15 years ago?
Check out my wall mounted build at Umbrella Arcades. I can do one with only mame for around half of the cost of one of these.
Search archive.org for MAME roms.
If they don't work, they don't match your MAME version.

Also just a tip... a lot of the retro consoles run great with RetroArch, in which you have unified controls. Each system uses its on RetroArch core.

Haven't tried it.
Looking at your name wheel you need to disable clones in rocketlauncher, my wheel only has one entry per game. The guy who put that together forgot to click that option most likely.
I want clones displayed bc there are some clones I prefer over the parent rom. I just use favorites as my default view though.
@@mamefan Gotcha, I ended up adding whatever I wanted from the mame ini. It's a huge time sink getting everything right..
I have zero interest in modern console emulation. I just did it for the video.
hey mame fan i had a question. if i have a file dump of the original dragons lair cd rom will that work instead of having the original physical copy?? also frame files i have but don't seem to work, i dunno anymore. any pointers??? when i click on dragons lair it says cannot find laser disc player. for mame i got the chd files for cliffhanger and ash's enrunmilla which are laser disc games by daphne/stern. no chd files for dl?
Laser disc games mostly don't work with MAME. Use Daphne. Let me know if you want all of my files. Did you ask before? I don't know a lot about laser disc games but have them working.
My favourite games to play in the arcade were the driving games, Daytona, Crazy Taxi, Sega Rally etc. Without a wheel this machine would not appeal much to me, but great, in depth review. Good job and congratulations on owning it.
EHA can add one, or you can. I've been wanting to make my own driving cabinet.
@@mamefan thanks for the reply. A small wheel around where the track ball is, and some pedals at the bottom would be perfect. Do you ever play Wrestlefest?

Marquee: 37.5" diag stretched bar Vitrolight LCD (Entire unit is 12" x 38")
This is awesome I just started getting into putting arcade 1up machines in my house but now I want this!!
Only go the emulation route if you're good with Windows and willing to get frustrated.
I appreciate your unbiased honesty. No offence to DC Thomas but he is positive about everything about it, acting like there are no flaws in it whatsoever, because he most likely got a discount to promote it. But you are honest, if something is crap about it you will say it. It’s refreshing.
Thanks. Yeah, I don't hold back. It pisses off some people ("You're too negative" etc.), but I'm here for people like you that want the truth.
Great video. The cab looks like it's well built and looks awesome. Kind of a bummer that there's so many issues with the software. I guess when you have so much different stuff installed it's bound to have some issues.
It probably is happening when you update windows it can cause issues with emulators and roms themselves...
I try to prevent Windows from updating. It hasn't attempted in a while.
@@mamefan oh nice. Well you do a great job of making it look good.

Black Tiger baby!
Massively played this Arcade game back in the day!

In case no one suggested it yet, if the orientation of the p3/p4 sticks are bugging you, why not go into the mame config menu and remap the controls?
I tried that, and it doesn't work well. Up, down, left, and right all become physical diagonals, and it feels bad.
Also hyperspin and rocketlauncher. I know those.
@@mamefan My membership to that page is pending. Do you have any opinions on this Manhattan Project upgrade? Will you be upgrading yourself?
I probably will but haven't followed it closely. The main reason I would is to get Teknoparrot games (much newer arcade games) that MAME can't emulate.
I am fabbing a MAME mach and love your art work on your control board. The grey multi-brand backing. I want to wrap my sides in that art. Where would I get that art to have my guy print the wrap?
Thanks. wallpapersafari.com/w/yrmfBl
@@mamefan what was the cpu/gpu again?

LoL the Nesticle icon is hilarious
Man, I really felt you the whole time, this is my type of a review cos I'm like you. I don't care for the good stuff that is just advertisement, I wanna know what's the bad stuff deep down. So thank you for this, but one thing. You said you got a little one up there, try to keep the cursing to the minimum for the little ones sake. Otherwise you can seriously double for Mark Walberg with the tone and everything :)
Thanks. I don't curse around her. I have a very hard time not cursing in my videos, especially when playing games.
🤣😂
I am looking at one of these arcades for my basement. Looking at Arcades R Us or EHA?
One better than the other? Software, hardware, etc?
Sorry, don't know anything about R Us.
i saw on google you've uploaded your entire bezel catalogue. it's epic. it won't work with my mame program though. im using the basics where you need a default .lay file. do you have any .lay file bezels from old school mame??? thanks for any help and god bless.
I don't use .lay files for bezels. I use rocketlauncher. This site has lay files I think mrdo.mameworld.info/mame_artwork_ingame.php
is rocket launcher a front end and is it worth getting??? im new to the game. grew up in the 80's in the arcades and when i discovered mame my whole life has changed. then adding bezels, snaps, and all that other good stuff it just is such a fun thing i love to do. i literally love love bezels.
Smart setup . We have the same mind for perfection
@SmokeRingHalo that's so funny I just ordered a pair of drives also from them with the black friday sale they just had.
So how is it so far? Was it a hassle having to buy a TV separately? And how was the process of putting in the game roms?
