for extending lines for the column grids: 1. Select parallel lines (either all of the horizontal or vertical lines) 2. Hold the shift key 3. Select the endpoints of parallel lines (while still holding the shift key, the endpoint you selected will change color from blue to red) 4. Select one of the endpoints, then (you can release the shift key after selecting all of the endpoints) 5. Extend it to your preferred length. After that, all of the selected lines will extend according to that one changed endpoint, makes the work easier :))
Hello and thank you for this series of videos, they’re perfect for helping to switch from Advance Steel/AutoCAD to A-CAD Architectural. I wanted to offer a time saver for extending parallel lines as you did with the grid. Rather than grip editing them you can offset the four perimeter lines and use the extend command, then delete the newly offset lines. Saves keystrokes and the potential for misalignment.
Again, very well done. I like to use offset when I have lines to extend from a common point; offset, extend then trim. Im not the best keyboardist so this will ensure my accuracy.
time stamp 9:00.......hint on extending the grid lines...... ether use "Stretch" or when you select the lines. press and hold "Shift key" and click the blue boxes (Pick Points) to make them turn red. (hot Points). once you have all the "Hot Points" you want. then select one of the "hot Points" and drag as you showed before... 😉
Easier way to draw gridlines instead of typing in all those numbers to extend the lines... At 8:30.... Use offset tool and offset the four outer edges by 12". Then use the "Extend" tool and click all the lines to extend them out to the newly 12" offset edges. Then erase those newly offset edges
Using your grid box autocad's (Architecture 2023) column grid actually created doubles of the bubbles. So it only worked properly when I removed all of the 12" extensions.
Hello thank you for this series it is really helping me as a new student to AutoCAD. I have come up on one challenge so for and I hope you will be able to assist. Firstly, I am using AutoCAD 2018. Now when you were doing the angle from the XY 0 grid and I was trying to follow my version would allow me to set the 45 degree handle and how can I set the length of the line on the version???
A fast way to extend the gridlines is to extend one to your desired point. Then create a ray (using the ray tool) spanning across the rest of the lines, starting at your newly extended line (ensure the ray is straight). Then you use the extend tool to highlight the ray, and select all of the gridlines you want extend. This should extend all the grid lines to the same desired length. Do the same for all sides that need extension. You can also just make a box offset around your grid perimeter, and use the extend tool to extend all your lines up to the perimeter of the box. Then erase the box.

Hello TD Vision U, loving the content!!! I have a question tough. I'm from Brazil and here we use centimeter for architectural drawings. Is it possible to star from the beginning, like you did, configurating all for centimeters? Or I have configure" pretending" to be a metrical or imperil unit, and AFTER all configured, I go to " Drawing Setup" and make the unit changes there? And I would also had to change the scales configuration, or once I change it for centimeters automatically understand 1cm: 100cm (for example)? Thank you!!

my dimensions are slightly off--for example, instead of 12'6", i have 12'6 3/16". I know i typed in the exact dimensions when we were going through the tutorial. How do I fix this?
I realized that you did the GRIDLINES first before you did the walls. This means you would have to know before hand where the columns are or will be...follow me....For simply plans thats fine but for larger plans, wouldn't it be easier to draw the walls then generate the grid lines from that. Hello I have a good question here, something that is bothering me. When I create a view of a floor plan everything is visible including the column grid lines, the moment i send the view of the plan to a sheet the column grid line and bubbles disappear. Can you orient me on that, I have tried many options and nothing to be fruitfull. Would really appreciate if you have an answer to that.
I think this is happening because you made the grids as an element rather than a construct. Try this: Xref the grid lines element into your "floor plan construct" and save. That should put the grids on your view as well as your sheet. You may have to redo dimensions previous associated with grid lines. Let me know how it goes.
Hey, I keep watching this part over and over again trying to understand why you didn't put the gridline through all the Horizontal walls? any explanation, please? also, I wanna know if gridlines need to be put on all walls in a floor plan? thank you
Good question. The answer is no. I am not sure what the rules as to where to put grids, but I usually put grids where there's a series of columns to be laid out, especially in places where the building will need to be supported by these columns. This one bedroom house is not the best example. The image I used in the illustration is a better one.
