“It Is Well With My Soul”. A lyric video for the popular hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”, with piano instrumental accompaniment. “It Is Well With My Soul” was written by Horatio G. Spafford (1828 -1888). It was set to music by Phillip Paul Bliss (1838 -1876), and published in 1876.
Horatio Spafford was a lawyer and businessman who suffered severe upheavals in his life. His property business was suddenly destroyed because of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In that same year his wife and 4 children were on a trip to England when the ship they were traveling on collided with another vessel and sank. His wife was barely saved, but his four daughters perished. A few days later, as he journeyed to meet his wife in England, he was shown the area where the tragedy happened, and was moved to write the heartfelt words of his now-famous hymn. Phillip Bliss composed the poignant melody for the hymn in 1876, naming it Ville Du Havre, after the sunken vessel.
