    I found you video Interesting as my PV should be completed on Monday, and my battery, a Powerwall 2 to be fitted in December hopefully when it arrives. I’ve gone for powerwall mainly on import and export rates are the same, and unit rate is cheaper than I’ve paid in the last few years, time will tell.

      Good luck with the install. Powerwall would have been nice, I just didn't want to have to wait so long for the battery. My GivEnergy battery took 4.5 months to come from initial ordering and 2.5 months after solar install.

    HI Daniel my Octopus SEG application from start to finish took just three weeks, applied on 2nd Sep and up and running on Sat 24th, I was a little confused on the day as to what was happing (summitted an export reading from the DNO meter online from my account) and just waited and by midday it was working fine. Now that Octopus outgoing rate has been increased to 15p per kwh, I was going to install an Eddi diverter (Solar Only for now - battery later) but running my export calculations again, I believe for me it is now better to consume as much as possible to allow the export and earn the payments as Gas prices will be lower @ 10.3p per kwh and we are a low gas consumption house hold. The cost of purchasing & fitting the Eddi would be around £600 and I don't think we would see any payback on this investment. Even less so when we have batteries.

    Switching energy company for who you sell to under SEG tariffs was pretty straightforward. I switched to Octopus for my supply and was told I would have to wait until my account was all set up before I could start the process of switch my export. I was being paid by by old energy company (So Energy) and the switch took about 3 weeks. Very similar to switching supplier with a 14 day cooling off period and followed by a week or so to the exchange of meter readings to agree end and start positions. Took quite a while to get my final payment and refund of balance being held.

    My installers applied for DNO approval three weeks after the pv system was commissioned on 29/6/22.
    Octopus is coming to check my malfunctioning smart meter (installed by octopus last year) in the beginning of September.
    Will be thrilled if I start receiving payments before Christmas. Meanwhile we export to the grid hundreds of kWh for free.

    good morning Daniel,i have my complete solar install fitted battery,19 panels, Eddie and Zappi question when looking at my app why does the energy coming from the panels still show slight export why wouldn't it all just go into the battery as this showing only 20% question 2 if you could show how to use Eddie eg show how to get Eddie to divert solar to heat hot water or even the setup a video would be great as no one shows this

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  2 роки тому

      You will find the values move around all the time, you can't get away from a little bit of grid use and export as it tries to balance the incoming and outgoing. The incoming happens when you turn devices on and off and you get a little bit of lag in the system especially when using a battery. Getting myenergi ct clamps on everything does give you a better overall view of what the system is up to.

    We have just watched your video again as we had Solar installed on 10 th August 2022 we transferred to Octopus we still are not receiving credit for the export to the grid , the issue surrounds MPAN 13 digit number ! We have had a real run around trying to secure this Octopus are declaring this is produced by your DNO in our case this is UK Power Networks LTD .
    Sadly our DNO are certainly not very helpful .

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  Рік тому

      Yes, if you don't have a mpan for the export meter already. Octopus should apply for it on your behalf. It was a painfully long time to get the mpan number, and there is no one to contact to hurry it along at the DNO.

I am generating power now. Silly question, obviously I don't want to change from Shell Energy yet, do I have to sell my excess generated energy to shell or can I sell it to another provider?

    It really is disgusting how much money, and time is wasted in Solar exports sign up, registrations etc. The fact is all Solar installers will tell you, you are good to go as soon as they finish installation and turn on. It all falls again to the Power companies screwing people over. There is absolutely no reason you can't have everything set up pre installation, as the company should have that all done on the day.

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  Рік тому +1

      I agree that the way it's handled could be a bit smoother. There's no rush for them if you are exporting for free and not getting paid for it, as someone is benefitting.

    Daniel, just checking do you get paid on half total generation like fit or only the number of kWh you export? I’ve got fit here and my dad is having panels installed. So checking if it’s worth applying if my dad will be using most of the electric generated. He is considering getting an eddi as I have immersun here.
    Great video it’s helped a lot!

    • @daniel_coe
      @daniel_coe  2 роки тому +2

      Just number of kWh exported. I expect my exporting will decrease once I get my battery. I have installed the eddi myself and it's very good and worthwhile. The myEnergi app is also very good as it can show you everything that is happening on your system if you add CT clamps to everything you want to see that is.

      You need a smart meter on the Solar PV side to measure export. I'm not sure if you need one on your incoming main supply. I would think you would, as its handy to have anyway as it shows you when you are exporting on the little screen they give you.

    Small hint: Energy cannot be saved. So if I want to boil my water, I always have to use the same amount of energy for one liter. Christian's method relies on a longer period of time with less power in order to be able to use the power provided by the PV as efficiently as possible - so consumption peaks are intercepted. In the end, the energy consumption should even be (slightly) higher due to the interposition of the dimmer, but it doesn't matter, since more efficient coverage by the PV system and therefore better use of the self-generated energy .......... .... 🌞 ................ Solar Mini PV Tip ... Winter & Camping. A boiler and other hungry electricity consumers can be infinitely dimmed using the "5000W dimmer". Ebay €7. I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs 12 hours a day, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos on my channel ua-cam.com/video/eC2olbCBhh0/v-deo.html The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs + (battery) remain intact because no extreme current peaks arrive at the inverter. Now every Mini PV Inverter is enough to sell large devices. So, with the dimmer, all internal heaters/devices can be converted into base load devices that stay almost permanently ON, drawing very little current directly from the PV. With a wattmeter / energy cost measuring device you can then measure this perfectly in order to optimally set the dimmer.
    With the dimmer, self-sufficiency will now increase from 20% to almost 95% in summer, which means a huge breakthrough. The prerequisite is that you have at least a small balcony power station, and you don’t need an expensive battery either. Example of a kettle: Without a dimmer, the 2500W - 600W PV system needs = 1900W, which you have to pay more for. If I turn the kettle down to 600W with a dimmer, then every weak PV system can now supply each consumer independently and independently, because the 2500W kettle becomes a 600W kettle thanks to the dimmer. Magic... The 2000W e-heater becomes a 500W e-heater with a dimmer, which can run 12 hours a day free of charge via PV. ua-cam.com/video/QbLWDbJi6ew/v-deo.html . The 4000W oven is also tamed. Not the solar systems have to grow, but the consumers just have to drop by 75%, which is sooo easy with the dimmer. are you convinced now I have already switched my entire household to dimmers. Please have a look at my channel. LG, Christian .............................
