Almost a year ago I was sitting in this very spot at my desk, watching katya’s old periscopes and putting on makeup getting ready to go to outpatient rehab because my mental health had bottomed out. Today, I’m actually stable and happy and in a loving relationship as i put on makeup to go to my job where I’ve been recently promoted. It would appear that both of us have recovered from really dark times along the same timeline. My heart is so full. 💕
When UNHhhh came back, there was a period of time where you could sense Katya was...lost? Tired? I couldn’t figure out what it was, but I knew that something was wrong. I was overjoyed that they came back, but I felt in my heart that Katya didn’t seem ready, didn’t seem ‘in it’, and I was so worried that they had pushed her too hard. I’m so happy that she seems to be working through it. I’m a recovering addict as well, opiates for almost 10 years, and I know it’s hard. Very hard. My heart goes out to Katya and I wish her nothing but happiness and peace. 💕
First interview of yours I've seen. Honestly best interview of a queen I've seen. Sometimes interviewers just get hella weird tryna manage a queen's energy nut you really let her get it all out. Katya also seemed more than in other interviews with the same basic quick fire questions. Genuinely great seeing Katya feeling better about things Gonna go binge the other interviews now!
This is likely not to be seen, but this is also the first interview of yours I've seen, Joseph, and I really admire how objective you were and how you gave Katya the room to talk. And I loved hearing you say that this is your favorite job. You can see that you have a calling to it. I could also see you being an excellent therapist. I was dying to know more about what Katya meant when she said that her friends around her after her breakdown were "too supportive". Later on she said something about people being too nice and thinking there's a scam behind it. It would be interesting to hear about how she relates to the people around her. Thank you again for this fantastic work. Looking forward to watching more!
25:25 - "Self esteem is developed and maintained through doing esteemable acts. Self esteem is an action." It's been a year and I think about this all the time.
You have such a talent for this. Most interviewers are just robots moving from point to point to get it over with and say they did it. You, research who you're interviewing so well, it's just like two people just talking about life on the couch and there is no camera there. Good stuff and Katya is amazing haha
Couldn't disagree more. He wasn't engaging. He didn't really respond to what Katya said. He would just abruptly ask the next question without even acknowledging what she had said.
jeff krahling i’d really recommend checking out other interviews he does then! his alaska and willam really exemplify the qualities OP was talking about :)
"Wherever you go, there you are!" is actually a great quote, to be reminded daily. I identify and connect to a lot of Brian's insights and experiences, love to hear him talk, always so well spoken! Also the way he expresses his own struggles and thoughts through Katya's character, in an exagerated way of course. Love Katya all around and love Brian for the little he's let out. Great interview as usual!!!
I love this interview! As a recovering drug addict i can relate to how its honestly so hard/awkward telling someone what you experienced while high after a few days.
She's truly back! One can tell she is well again. Loved this interview. And Joseph is so handsome and well spoken. Loved it! And I can't wait for Katya's book!!!
22:56 Are you truly happy? That question gives me one second of heart attack. I don’t know, maybe just me, but I don’t know who’s truly happy in this disastrous world.....

Katya is a drag queen I love and not for how she looks (she's lovely btw) but her/Brian's spirit. People cant handle her open and honest energy. She says the things that go unsaid. This is how to be unapologetic. I really enjoyed this interview.
It’s so inspiring to see how honest Katya is about her drug addiction. But at the same time so sad to hear as society often breaks down the most beautiful and talented spirits as they are often the most troubled and vulnerable. I hope Katya finds her inner peace and stays strong
This is so fresh to see; I’ve noticed when Katya gets interviewed she always tends to turn it around and interview the interviewer instead 😂 Finally seeing her open up is amazing ❤️❤️
Katya is just absolutely GLOWING. She's a glowing orb of zen calmness. And I'm just so proud of her for reaching this kind of level in her mental health journey and I'm glad she's doing better nowadays.
Honestly from working in customer service, I can totally understand the meet and greet things, like I know it’s not in the same category at all but human interaction on that level is exhausting!!
I relate so much with Brian's experiences. It's almost exactly my own, in early 2018 I went insane and had a psychotic break and knowing what I went through, I respect him so much. He's an extremely strong and inspirational person. Welldone on your hard earned sanity and sobriety Katya! I absolutely adore you! 💗✨
I had the same issue with theft in my past, and I blame myself the same way when something bad happens, basically word for word. "It's karma for everything I took". It's been years, and people have told me I've more than paid my debt morally, but it's really hard to let go of.
Fave queen since day one. Always the realest and spookiest. Also, Joseph does the best sit downs. People really seem to open up to him and as a fan I really appreciate it.
the "Roxy are you here" completely killed me. It would have taken me every single muscle in my body to stop myself from just breaking out into laughter during a serious subject as the interviewer.

Same. I listened to that first podcast and was VERY concerned. She was clearly not well... It's a bit of a relief to hear her confirm it, and that she's aware and has insight into how she was at that time. It's great to see her doing well now.
Watching her talk about her recent experience with drugs is so sad... I'm glad she's chill now. I just want her to be healthy and take care of herself... ❤

It took me years to have the balls to confront myself about my addiction. It was hard because I wasn't ready to admit I had to turn it all around if I ever wanted to make something of my life. But once I accepted it, I got ready to little by little take back control. You're stronger then you think even if you feel weak. There's a lot of strength in admitting that you deserve better
Why do doctors think you're an addict and why don't you see yourself as one? I ask because i an a chronic pain patient and rely on opioid pain medication to manage my pain, and it's so common for people to confuse dependence with addiction.
i love her so much. and honestly, i never ever click or end up watching long-form interviews (i have a very short attention span) but this was such a good interview. it was so insightful and the interviewer did a great job at letting her speak and form her thoughts uninterrupted. i'm so happy to be able to get this glimpse into her mind, i hang onto her every word. thank you for this interview! will definitely watch more of your stuff :-) and as for katya, i want the world for her. she's such a bright soul

I could watch this interview for hours and hours. I don't think I've ever seen an interview where every single question that's asked is interesting and every single answer is very in-depth. What a great interview!
Thank you so much for this interview, Joseph! I really appreciate how you did the first 17ish minutes of the interview. @@mikep6467 well she was in two seasons of an award winning show, she is the costar of another award winning show, and has been in multiple other shows and movies and has over 2 million followers on Instagram so I think most people would agree she’s famous. And you are?
i love how katya thinks its karmic revenge from a past life like she didn't steal 18k from her old job in this one lmao
😭😂
I think she payed it all back, not 100% sure but I swear she said that on an episode of unhhhh
“Past life” can be a figure of speech. She’s referring to her past self past that she no longer identifies with, not a literal reincarnation thing.
This made me ugly laugh because that was my exact thought. 😅
I dont know you but I'm so happy for you 💜
Rachael VB aww thank you ☺️💕
so happy for you. made me smile. hope u are doing well
When UNHhhh came back, there was a period of time where you could sense Katya was...lost?
do you remember what episodes?
@@lindsaylindsaylindsay12345 I'd like to know too
I agree! I’m glad Katya has gotten through it!
Glad you're doing better ❤
Hey if this is too personal I’m sorry, you don’t have to answer. But I personally struggle as well. How were you able to get and stay clean?
All this time thinking that that story about fucking a ghost was just a joke, but it wasn't omg
Now I love her even more😂
where did she tell that story before ? i wanna see the full version of it
Sounds like the ghost wasn't into it. So maybe she sexually assaulted a ghost.
First interview of yours I've seen. Honestly best interview of a queen I've seen. Sometimes interviewers just get hella weird tryna manage a queen's energy nut you really let her get it all out.
Katya also seemed more than in other interviews with the same basic quick fire questions. Genuinely great seeing Katya feeling better about things
Gonna go binge the other interviews now!
Thanks so much Michael!!!! So glad you enjoyed!! :)
I know it’s a typo but I laughed at the idea of an interviewer managing her “energy nut”
Self esteem is an action."
It's been a year and I think about this all the time.
Thaaaank you! This is literally one of my favorite quotes and I was looooking for it!
"I'm not high, I'm just rollin." lmao
You have such a talent for this. Most interviewers are just robots moving from point to point to get it over with and say they did it. You, research who you're interviewing so well, it's just like two people just talking about life on the couch and there is no camera there. Good stuff and Katya is amazing haha
Couldn't disagree more. He wasn't engaging. He didn't really respond to what Katya said. He would just abruptly ask the next question without even acknowledging what she had said.
And they were all really generic questions.
jeff krahling i’d really recommend checking out other interviews he does then! his alaska and willam really exemplify the qualities OP was talking about :)
jeff krahling the interviewer seems pretty full of himself
COMPLETELLLLYYYYYYYYYY disagree lol. His response is the most awkward thing.
“Oh god these nails are great” lmfao
Came to comment on that. Love those nails too, girl!
Buckaroo bonzai is a really good movie.
This was very vulnerable, brave, honest and REAL.
YES 👏🏼
“lipstick collab with..uh..with tracy” SO CASUAL i LIVE for them
If I thought Erykah Badu dragged me online it'd drive me crazy too.
I love this interview! As a recovering drug addict i can relate to how its honestly so hard/awkward telling someone what you experienced while high after a few days.
Withextrabacon Proud you’re healing and sad truth is not everyone understands addiction but hopefully you have a wonderful support system. ❤️
@@fkgmeoaudi39300 yeah I'm fine now haha but trying to tell someone you saw shadow figures and bugs when there wasn't any is just awkward to do.
24:45 "Sometimes it doesn't get better"
THAT'S IT!!! :)))))
Fajar Setiawan literally every day
She's truly back!
One can tell she is well again. Loved this interview. And Joseph is so handsome and well spoken. Loved it! And I can't wait for Katya's book!!!
“You’re very attractive, good for you”
Well I’m glad someone said it lmao.
22:56 Are you truly happy?
That question gives me one second of heart attack.
I don’t know, maybe just me, but I don’t know who’s truly happy in this disastrous world.....
oh shit me too. I gasped lol
Happiness is fleeting, I feel like the word people really want to ask is if people are content
Its an impossible question really! Loved Katyas response of 'yeah I'm cool' neither confirming nor denying but... positively
7:00 and Roxxxy be like " I'm Roxxxy Andrews and i'm here to make it clear" 😂😂🙌🏼
Man. I knew the tattoos were a choice, but it's hard to hear that they weren't really her choice. Amy Winehouse's fans were blindly supportive, too.
when did he say they weren’t his choice?
that he didn't even feel them haha
I noticed that as soon as the tattoos stopped the real Brian truly began to come back.
not a native speaker but I thought he meant he didn't feel the pain (from being tattooed)...
@@lamplitpage she meant more that she got them when she wasnt really present. so she didnt feel the pain from the tattoos, but she also very much didnt think them through in the same way
she said she wasnt coming back from her most recent relapse and felt crazy, so she wasnt really making informed decisions about what she was doing. obviously her choice, but she wasnt considering it fully
Interviewer: so how did it feel to achieve this super amazing thing??
Katya: oh, it was awful
😂😂😂
This is so fresh to see; I’ve noticed when Katya gets interviewed she always tends to turn it around and interview the interviewer instead 😂 Finally seeing her open up is amazing ❤️❤️
Katya is just absolutely GLOWING. She's a glowing orb of zen calmness. And I'm just so proud of her for reaching this kind of level in her mental health journey and I'm glad she's doing better nowadays.
This is genuinely the most real interview I have ever watched.
I'm going to steal katya's pick-up line, "you're very attractive, good for you."
UPS delivery boy? She WOULD choose another profession where she wears brown all the time! 🤣
"you're very attractive, good for you"
I like how he kept that part in the recording.
as someone whos suffered from psychotic episodes, hearing my favourite queen talking so candidly about it makes me so happy
Moonage Daydream me too. Love me some katya
i think this is the best interviewer in the drag race sphere, really good questions and he makes the queens really comfortable
the "Roxy are you here" completely killed me. It would have taken me every single muscle in my body to stop myself from just breaking out into laughter during a serious subject as the interviewer.
nnnnn I can’t get over her crooked bangs she’s so cute
UHHHNNNNN
Lew _UNHhhh,_ but so close though!
Overactivated my OCD wanted to reach thru the screen😂
“Self esteem is about action.” Wow, wow, wow. Never heard that before, but man does it make sense. This was such a great interview btw!
Oh shit you uploaded both parts? You spoil us! I’m so excited for this. I greatly appreciate Katya’s eloquence and perspective.
“After going looney toons I don’t feel like the same person.” That one resonates. Love you Katya. Stay healthy 😘
11:44 "started podcasting way too quickly" (after rehab). I have listened to that episode only recently and was so worried for her, so from hearing this she has clearly come a long way even after exiting rehab. I wish everyone struggling with addiction and sobriety immense strength. Recovery is such a rollercoaster but so worth it
Same. I listened to that first podcast and was VERY concerned. She was clearly not well... It's a bit of a relief to hear her confirm it, and that she's aware and has insight into how she was at that time.
It's great to see her doing well now.
"You're very attractive. Good for you" I love it! Haha
Watching her talk about her recent experience with drugs is so sad... I'm glad she's chill now. I just want her to be healthy and take care of herself... ❤
Oh damn I didn't know she relapsed during the periscope days, I thought she took a break to avoided relapsing. Running through the streets naked getting arrested? I'm so glad she got through all that safely 💜🌈💜
“Obviously meth”...
“Ice road truckers” I love her so much

Joseph Shepherd loved the interview!! I’ve never seen katya so candid! You’re both brilliant x
thank you, i love this interviews 💕
You did such a good job. Thank you.
Ty for this interview. I love Katya, but now even more. Her candid description of past addiction and rehab was so enlightening to me ,as a psychiatric nurse. Love you, Brian!!!❤
This is actually a brilliant interview. I really think your kindness and gentleness came through in this interview. Well done.
i love this interviewer so much, I feel like he really listens to her, like even when she says something that's kind of uncomfortable that would make other people laugh he still takes it seriously. i just think thats really cool :)
Loved this interview Joesph! Ive watched all of them and you’re very good at this! You ask the right questions, you’re well informed, interested, you let your guest talk, you don’t interrupt. The guests really get a chance to be themselves and to shine. Absolutely love it. Katya has been one of my favorites from RPDR since her first season and I’m so glad she’s doing good now. It was pretty obvious to me hat she came back too soon, and slowly while listening to her podcast I noticed the changes she was going through. Can’t wait for the book and for mrs. Mattel TO finally share her documentary with all of us. Thanks Joseph 💜 PS loved the comment at the end that you are handsome, that’s very Katya, always honest and direct 😁
I am so proud of you Brian! “keep coming back, it works if you work it !” You are so worth it! Love you❤️ stacy
he's a really good interviewer with listening skills of a great therapist and I love how he keeps her so comfortable during such a vulnerable conversation with such few words and gestures
Thank you for this interview! It felt like two friends talking and yet you managed to raise some possibly uncomfortable points in a very nice way. Really enjoyed watching this.
You can hear in her words how drugs have negatively impacted her life....the next half of this interview was so heart breaking. I wish her the very best
HOLY FUCK i am so glad i stumbled upon this interview. katya is such an inspiration; she is super real and genuine and that legit gives me strength. great job joseph on leading the conversation, 1000% subscribed now
“Self esteem is an action”
This really hit home and I hope those who are also feeling down this message reached y’all 💜
I love how honest she is. She didn’t sugar coat anything! She told us the real struggle with mental health and literally just trying to get through life. I could listen to her life stories all day.
I have never seen Katya so at ease and comfortable talking about such tender and sensitive topics. Wonderful, careful, respectful interviewing of a true icon who needs to be treated with respect and patience. Bravo.
Katya is pure sunshine and love. I wish I knew people like her in real life. What a gem and gift to us all, even if from afar through a tv screen. Thanks for this great interview Joseph 😊
Just seen the entire interview, one thing to say. She might not be the best person, but damn is trying her best to be better everyday. Like, I feel so touched every time she talked even though things they were talking about were not a big deal, I was really into the whole interview
Thanks so much Kristian for watching. xx
@@JosephAShepherd Thanks to you and Katya for letting us watch this amazing interview, you have a new sub here!
Just in case you're curious, the episode of Race Chaser they were talking about with Willam shading Trixie is the June 19th S3E1 "Casting Extravaganza!" episode of the podcast.
aeonjoey thank fucking you!!!! 😁
Do you know the time? cuz its an hour long i honestly dont wanna listen to the whole thing haha
Her makeup looks so beautiful.
Katya is so amazing the way she speaks is so well held if that makes sense I identify with her so much,so inspirational.
Danni Broadhurst: No, "well held" DOESN'T make sense, but we can guess what you mean by the context.
do you mean eloquent or something ?
put together? down to earth?
I honestly appreciate the honesty of this interview. Love you so much.💖
Best interviewer in the entire drag scene IMO. Great questions all! Love the channel, thanks for the great content featuring all our fav queens!
I love you Katya! So much xx your story and message is one of such positivity despite you going through life hurdles that are shared by so many others xxx all the support, what a great interview!
Katya at the end was literally me the entire interview.... "You're very attractive... good for you"
Saying “that’s so interesting!” And then swiftly moving on is also my go-to when I have mentally checked out of a conversation and have no idea what’s going on. 👌🏻
Bloody loved this, so relaxed, honest & interesting - can’t wait for more in the future!! - special request for a Trixie or Sasha Velour interview soon if they’re up for it ❤️
Yes! Sasha or Trixie would be amazing!
and BOB!!
I feel her when she talks about addiction. And I never considered myself an addict. The doctors do tho. But I see myself a lot on her...
I ask because i an a chronic pain patient and rely on opioid pain medication to manage my pain, and it's so common for people to confuse dependence with addiction.
i love her so much. and honestly, i never ever click or end up watching long-form interviews (i have a very short attention span) but this was such a good interview. it was so insightful and the interviewer did a great job at letting her speak and form her thoughts uninterrupted. i'm so happy to be able to get this glimpse into her mind, i hang onto her every word. thank you for this interview! will definitely watch more of your stuff :-)
and as for katya, i want the world for her. she's such a bright soul
He’s just so smitten by her! Like *AAAAHHH* 😱😍😱😍
I really loved that he let her answer questions and didn’t interrupt even when she started to tangent a bit. He let her get out an answer every time. 💕
Thank you for being so real Katya. I’m really glad you’re doing better now.
I love watching these interviews, Joseph is always professional with the queens while still asking the hard hitting questions. Which is good journalism at its finest, I’m curious which queen he’d like to interview next?
I could watch this interview for hours and hours. I don't think I've ever seen an interview where every single question that's asked is interesting and every single answer is very in-depth. What a great interview!
Thank you so much for this interview, Joseph! I really appreciate how you did the first 17ish minutes of the interview. This is the first time I’ve seen an interview with someone with a huge following about addiction/mental health not be rushed or you talking over the person sharing or trying to make a joke out of everything! You are very talented. Thank you for this important conversation and handling it with grace and respect!! Katya: I love you lots. Thank you for being honest and vulnerable to the world!!!
Another fantastic and thoughtful interview. I love Katya and was so excited to get this notification, but I would watch any interview where you are the interviewer. You just have a knack for this. Thank you for all the great content!
