The main issue I have with the ones that don't disintegrate isn't with your house's plumbing but in the city sewers and sewer treatment plants where they end up clogging and gets in the way of the regular treatment. So it is less about your own individual house and more about the strain it puts on our city systems and wallets, which also bounces back to all of us. There are great documentaries about just that available on youtube.
yeah, our weasel city decided to add onto our water bill recycling charge and charge for cleaning storm sewers which is totally separate from our sanitary sewers here so i suspect they are trying to recoup cost of cleaning sewers for wipes because they had crew go around cleaning couple years ago for first time in 30 years i have ever seen them
I have used the Dude Wipes for years and have had no problems in an 80 year old home. They are fragrance free, no lanolin (which i am allergic to), and they are also available in individual travel packs. You have confirmed what i already suspected… that it’s the right product for me. Great video, thanks!
I feel the big issue here is a survivorship bias. Plumbers are only going to see the circumstances when it fails. If dozens of people are flushing dozens of brands, plumbers will never be called for the good brands. Plumbers will only see wipes that fail to break down. So all the plumbers who say they only see bad wipes are absolutely correct. Good wipes get no service calls. What i would like to see is how they are decomposed to mimic a septic system. Are they going to be eaten like paper or will a lot of residues not break down.
I'm still not in a hurry to switch to "flushable" wipes instead of sticking with toilet paper. _"Probably won't destroy your plumbing"_ isn't exactly a great marketing pitch. If I'm gonna switch to anything it'll be a bidet.
Used good wipes until they went up in $$ on Amazon! Love them. Then switched to dude wipes. But currently use the Nice n Clean🙌 They were the best bang for the buck and I believe the ingredients aren’t bad. That’s always a plus! Thank you for this video!!!!🙏 I’ve always been curious about flushable wipes and if there’s certain ones that flush best over others?!
Thanks for the video. I like these but don't use them because I have a septic. What I would have liked to have seen in your video is the liquid being used to "break down" the wipe, to represent septic system liquid. Maybe use fresh water, as you did, then utilize water with bacteria/enzymes/yeast and see what happens with them after they enter the enzyme enriched liquid. However, thanks for the video.
@@RogerWakefieldI used to but then I put an ostomy bag on my belly. The reason I was forced to use them was I was going up to 50 times a day before I put the bag on my belly.. how much it is it through the night. 18 years I never got more than 2 hours of sleep per night. I called them basically naps. And if I didn't wake up in time I was up running the wash taking a shower because it's bad as it gets. Charmin where my favorite as they were the gentlest on my rear side when I was going so many times you try to wipe that many times you'll be bleeding.
Or you could have your large intestine removed due to Crohn's and colitis and have an ostomy bag on your belly that's all liquid. Only needs a smallest amount of Tp.. backside has been sewn up😢
I've used Cottonelle before and they were great. Unfortunately, during the pandemic you couldn't buy them even if your life depended on it. Ended up switching to Dude Wipes, and I've not had any problem with them - but I do follow the instructions and flush only one at a time...
If your house has pvc drains, you should be fine, the main problem I have seen is either they don’t give themselves a courtesy flush and they try and flush half a pack down or they have old rusted cast iron that is going to grab every little bit as it goes down
My people, watch the linked video. In context, this makes sense. Y'all are projecting thoughts for what he's testing and mostly are wrong. Watch the longer video.
My experience in Iraq says absolutely not flushable. It was like putting rope in our lift stations (14). The base commander had to shut down using them. Or burn up all our pumps.
I find it amusing that the cottonelle has tested with plumbers on label seems an odd wording do they wrap up a plumber in them or what you would think it would be tested by plumbers.
Roger, they will flush, but they may not make it all of the way, and when they do make it all of the way, they cause problems at processing facilities. Have you ever heard of Traptex? Check them out. It is a device with blades that is installed in the bowl at the front of the trap that will allow everything to go through except for materials too tough for the blades to shred - mainly wipes and paper towels. They may cost as much as the bowl you’re putting it in, but in the end, they are worth the cost. While they are not recommended for installation in hospitals due to the danger of some lunatic putting their hand in the bowl and cutting themselves, that’s where you can find them most, but there is almost always a sign on the wall warning people to not put their hands into the toilet due to this device and the risk of injury. These things are a modern marvel.
I recently had my septic tank pumped out and the septic guy say they consider them flushable if they can make it to the septic tank but they don't break down once they're in the septic tank. Biodegradable my rear side..
i dont think the flush test is creating a high enough water pressure to really pull the wipes through for this test to be spot on, maybe assist might help? I think that would create a much more realistic situation. additionally, you can put most of these wipes into a cup of water and slight spoon swirl will dissolve them. at least, cottonelle and amazon basics did for me. of course theyre still stronger than toilet paper but i dont think theyre in the worst place for septic either.
Cheaper than a month of flushable wipes and way cheaper than calling a plumber: get a bidet wand and never pay for toilet paper or wipes again, and have a much cleaner butt!
My wife had picked up some of the 'dude' wipes, but I wasn't impressed with how they came apart. When I tried the Nice ones, for my shake test, they seemed to turn into a loose pulp that really wasn't holding together at all (I had posted about it on your subreddit).
@@RogerWakefield i wonder how much a power flow toilet has an impact on how quick they break down. Also, any way you could do a septic system representation on the top 5 brands.
