INXS - Live London 1986 Stereo

- INXS live London 1986. In 1986, TV was still mono, but we knew stereo was imminent, transmitted as NICAM. Bob Foley, the sound mixer on the Old Grey Whistle Test, thought ahead. He used to multitrack record the acts on the show, and afterwards remix the songs in stereo, for future posterity. Sadly, he could never interest any of the production team on the show to take his precious 1/4" reels, and they started gathering dust at his home. Cheeky sod that I was (and am), I asked him to bring in any that he could of the bands that I liked, so I could transfer to cassette for my own selfish amusement. And there the mixes have been for the past 35 years. Recently I dusted some down and tried to restore some of the damage done to them by my own shocking misuse, and then enhance a bit where I could. It's nice to have them exist in the world, and Bob would have been proud that - finally - they got seen and heard by people. Bob also donated the multitrack tapes to the BBC training centre in Evesham, so keen trainees could practice their mixing skills. I also have a handful of these tracks that this particular keen trainee did too (such as Prefab Sprout's When Love Breaks Down).

I'm very impressed with your CV and hope to see some Prefab Sprout!
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music There is some on this channel, I'm sure you will find it
Raw talent. You don't see it any more this days. Almost 40 years ago. Thanks for preserving this history.
Glad you enjoyed it
Australian bands in the 80s had an edge. There were gigs everywhere throughout the county, almost seven nights a week, if they were up for it, where they could sharpen their acts, plus long travels in vans (trucks for the crew) between towns and cities. The toughest survived and thrived. Darwinian rock'n'roll, Oz style.
Good point, by the time they went overseas in 1983 they had played hundreds of gigs over 5-6 years in Australia, no wonder they were so tight!
Such a killer band, especially for the 80s.
I could listen to this band 24/7 and never get tired of them
Michael il frontman ( per me )))) più grande sensuale talentuoso bellissimo grande voce - mi manca tanto 😪💔💫💫💫💫💫💫👍👍👍👍
Awesome song! Awesome singer!
Lol my God I remember this! I bought this single. It was the only thing I bought by them, but I knew they were good and they did get better. There is a touch of Jim Morrison in Michael’s stagecraft, but there is a strong ‘80’s filter.
They stood out from the British inde types of the time.
Enjoyed seeing this again.
Cheers.
I saw them at this time in Wembley Stadium a year after live aid and nearly 20 years later I met Michael Hutchence backstage at a Primal Scream gig in Copenhagen and was chatting with him when I remembered the gig and told him that his was the first band I ever saw alive which impressed him until I told him it was at Wembley Stadium which he insisted they never would’ve been able to play back then!
You never forget your first gig so it’s kind of mind blowing, to me, that someone else would forget that they actually played somewhere like Wembley Stadium!?
But then again I’m a Brit so maybe Wembley Stadium is a bigger deal over here than it is “DownUnder“…?
They definitely weren’t playing stadium gigs in 1986. They played theatre gigs that year.
Unless you saw them supporting someone else?
Sadly, Michael died just 11 years after this, November 1997.
Just checked- they supported Queen at Wembley!
@@Lorrico14 I know!
I was there!
It was the first gig I ever went to, and they replaced the drummers sons band called “Virginia Woolf“ because they couldn’t make it, so INXS was the first band I ever saw live.
My point, previously, was that he didn’t seem to remember what I would consider quite a monumental event in a band’s career(I’m from Britain) and he was quite insistent that they weren’t big enough to be playing anywhere like the biggest venue in our country
-his Girlfriend, Helena, was so lovely that night too…
@@BeesWaxMinder 😂 He was right that they weren’t big enough yet to headline but you’d think he’d remember supporting Queen, given how huge they were at the time. Maybe that was after his head injury & it had affected his memory. It’s just a shame he didn’t stay with Helena. :-(
@@Lorrico14 I agree.
I think that was the night he MIGHT’ve got an injury..?
I certainly know he got into a big fight with a taxi driver or a chauffeur of Helena’s?
The whole reason I was there. TBH was that my girlfriend at the time had gone to school with her, and we were meeting up backstage at the gig, and I had, typical tourist(!), this big fancy camera, he probably saw me talking to her And I imagine he thought I was some sort of paparazzi or something (far from it!)& came to her aid which was quite sweet, but once she explained the situation, he was quite talkative.
He didn’t just support Queen by the way after him, came the alarm - a Welsh band, which I never liked before, but I was surprised how much I like them live👍
After them was status quo who opened live aid at the same location exactly 1 year to the day previously, and then, after them came Queen, who were… Well, as you imagine they would be!!
Thank you so much for posting this and your channel they are my favourite band i sadly never saw

This is awesome - thanks for showing it :)
😍😍😍😍😍
Amazing live band. Saw them with Guns and Roses in Dallas. Striking how much better they sounded than GnR live.
Hutchence so much better than Jagger!
