It's funny because I think he learned french in Québec and not in France; his accent sounds more French Canadian than French (I'm french Canadian). But anyway, I love this actor. Thanks for posting this interview.
Ah le franglais, quelle langue particulièrement superbe ;) It's obvious he's perhaps not very comfortable speaking French, but that he's a determined trooper and props to him for that.
son francais est assez bon, pas du tout parfait, mais c'est clair il comprend toutes les questions et qu'il a aussi un certain instinct naturel de s'exprimer en francais. bravo Brendan
Wikipedia says he is "fluent in French" so I had to look it up. I feel slightly mislead. I'm sure he could get by if he was visiting somewhere that spoke French but he is definitely not fluent.
At 5:24 he says: On (se) fait des bobos... and the female hosts ask where, which I presume, she understood what he meant. Do French from France use this expression as well "se faire un bobo" ? Basically it means to accidentally hurt yourself or "se blesser" in french. Yeah Wikipedia brought me here, I was curious as a Canadian to see how good his French was. I'm sure he understands most, if not all, I'm convinced it's just a lack of practice. I used to be like that when speaking english (I was still considered bilingual in school, just had a really heavy accent and stutter). Now it's a lot more fluid and almost no accent :)!
@@philbecker4676 But he knows French,he obviously doesn't practice it and we have to give him a thumbs up for the effort and that he didn't give up.He is an amazing man isn't he?
Did he speak French in his youth and now forgets much of it, because he definitely sounds like he is struggling at times. He speaks a few words of French and then goes into English and then a few French words. So I wouldn't say he was fluent in French.
It's obvious he understands the French language - he's just very much out of practice in speaking it. He's trying his best to remember so props to him for doing his best.
you're right. fluency entails confidence. He's an intermediate speaker at best. I am sure with more immersion he can easily become advanced speaking and then gain fluency once he's more confident. I am an advance french speaker. I am confident but I am a long way from being fluent.
Respect for trying - French is difficult once you've forgotten, he could have pretended he didn't know a word but he decided to try. ❤

Probablement sur sa bio dans google il est écrit qu'il est un acteur ''américano-canadien'' donc sa fait du sens!
Of course he did, he's Canadian.
His mom is French Canadian
His mom is french canadien and he lived in ottawa Ontario

Quel beau mec! I'm sure he doesn't speak French often but he's a trooper. God love this perfect man!
Quelle classe cet acteur

i have absolutely no idea what he is saying in French and yet he sounds absolutely marvelous!
He's OK in French. Says about Journey to the Center of the Earth, and about the Mummy 3.

I agree. He understands French, but he isn't fluent. Though, I think if he is exposed to it more, he will be fluent.

imdb says hes fluent in french. dont sound fluent to me
He is fluent when he is relaxed, such as at home. Is English your native language, because I could not tell.
