Other tip fro my old farm girl days , is you can put your green tomatoes in brown paper lunch bags and they will ripen . My grandmother had a recipe for canning green tomatoes with onions and a sweet brine. She called it pickelilly and was eaten as a side with sandwiches she was born in the Pittsburgh area but lived most of her child hood in Mississippi and the family came back to the PA area when she was in her late teens. I grew up in a German Irish family culture but my growing up area was so diverse with so many ethnic groups because the steel Mills attracted a lot of immigration. There were festivals every year Greek Syrian polish German Italian Chinese and the food was so good. Canning is a wonderful idea but you either have to grow it yourself in abundance or be able to purchase it somewhere from Farmers or farmers markets other than that the produce is too expensive if you're buying it in smaller quantities in grocery stores
I have heard a bunch of people talk about making their own spice blends, but I usually cook by “smell” so I end up adding individual spices instead of blends. Plus I don’t want to use up lots of space to store specialty blends that don’t get used. I’ve never seen a season salt recipe though and this one looks easy and worth taking the space to store in a quart jar. 😊 Thanks for sharing this one!

I make my seasoned salt every year with herbs I pick in my garden all summer here in Norway and dried. Oregano, dill, basil, parsley, sage, lovage, thyme, etc.
Becky, you are so inspiring! You need to be the next FoodNetwork Star! I always learn so much from your videos. This, coming from a 60+ person who grew up on a farm and my mom planted a huge garden and canned everything imaginable! Sadly, other than snapping beans and shucking corn, I didn't learn much in the kitchen. I was usually out on the farm helping my dad. Thank you so much!
Love these videos I’ve watched all your videos made vanilla and the taco ranch seasoning definitely going try the season salt thankyou becci great gifts 🎁 as well xx

At Thanksgiving, I ran out of poultry seasoning. I looked at the ingredients and realized I had everything. So I just googled a recipe and in a couple minutes, had a fresh batch. Game changer!! Now I look up all my mixes and pre-mix when I see I'm getting low! Joined Instagram today just for you!
Hi Becky. We have our seasoning mix on the table and we add it to cooking, too. It includes salt, black ground pepper and paprika but I may tweak it a little after seeing you making yours. Thanks as ever for fab ifo in your videos. 💚
I make herbed salts. I take fresh herbs ( basil is my favorite) 3/4 herbs 1/4 salt and blend in the blender till I have a nice green " putty" I then spread it out on parchment paper in my dehydrator and dry completely. I then take these chunks of green, fragrant salt and pulverize it till it's very fine. The color is amazing and the flavor is the best! I mix herbs and do single flavors. I really love the basil version to sprinkle on halved cherry tomatoes that I dehydrate into "sun dried tomatoes" the flavor of the two just pop! I snack on them anytime I want a sweet salty snack. Check this out, when you have tons of onion tops or assorted herbs to use up. I think you will enjoy it.
A great thing I've recently found and love is garlic pepper instead of garlic salt. While currently restricted on salt in the families meals I turned to this for the first time and have absolutely loved it.
You are so beautiful, Becky! Inside and out! I love your tenacity with making homemade and bypass the preservatives of the things we don't realize we are buying at the Grocery store.
Last year I made garlic salt for the first time. I simply used fresh homegrown garlic and rock salt. Blitzed it in a small food processor. Spread it thinly on a lined (baking paper) baking tray. Baked on low until dry. Then I blitzed it again. Yum! As it was first time I didn’t make enough. Been hanging out for my garlic to be ready so I can make more….lots more :)
I started making my own taco seasoning a few years ago because my friend is gluten-free and so many packaged seasonings have gluten. My family loves it so much better, that I’ll never buy the packets again! I’m excited to try the season salt next! Thanks girl! 👊🏼
I love your personality.....I just started watching your videos and I'm hooked. I will definitely put this on my to-do list this weekend. Thanks for all the amazing video tips!!!!
I’ve made a few salts this summer so far: a Tuscan salt with my own sage, oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, garlic and lemon zest - add in good coarse salt and blend in the food processor. Spread out on a baking sheet and dry in a low temp oven for a few hours. Smells & tastes great and makes a fun gift for friends. Another salt I made by simply using lemon zest and dried basil - masked a great salt. Finally, I dried a ton of celery leaves in the oven and blended with salt in the food processor. So delish. I’m thinking of making a hot salt with dried jalapeños next.
Thank you so much! We definitely go through so much Garlic salt and I didn't realize it had sugar in it and I read labels for so much of what I eat!..I will be using your recipe and making my own. Again, thank you!
Hello Becky I've just found your channel and i LOVE it!! I've been binge watching your content for 3 days and loved all the posting!! I've learned so much from you You are a Rockstar in the kitchen and the garden
My partner loves lemon pepper salt, so when I got a dehydrator, that was the first thing I made. I dehydrated lemon peels (I get organic when I'm going to be eating the peels!) and blitzed them up into a powder. Then I added salt and pepper. We also keep a small amount of lemon powder on its own in case we want to change up the proportions in a recipe. The leftover, peel-less lemons were then juiced and frozen into cubes for when we need lemon juice, and the bitter rinds were boiled down to make pectin for jam! It was such a game changer to use every part of the lemon when the intention was just to make some seasoning :)
Good morning! Yes, I have made some of my own mix of seasonings. One I use a lot, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika. Now I don't have to reach for 3 different bottles. Also an onion soup mix without salt then I can add to taste. I liked the packets but had too much salt. Thank you for some new additions! ❤️
Not seasoning but I make big batches of crumble topping, bake it on trays cool and freeze in ziplock bags. Frozen fruit cooked in a pan plus a bag of crumble mix makes a lovely quick dessert 🍨 for those cold winter night to come!
Awesome video Becky! I make a lot of my own mixes & spice blends. I got a couple of books years ago called MAKE A MIX COOKERY. Such great books! Don't know if they're still in print, but if you can find them - GRAB 'EM!! Also... I don't know if you have BIG LOTS stores over there in your part of the world, but pink himalayan salt has been a regular item there for quite a while now. A #4 plastic jar with a screw cap (kind of like the large containers of nuts) or #4 resealable bag is $4.00 regular price. I was in there one day & they had a few of the plastic jars where the lid & neck had been crunched & she offered to lower the price on into $2.00. So I went back & got 4 more jars w/ damaged necks, so DEAL OF THE DAY!! 😁😁😁 Something great about getting a discount on a damaged item like that especially when you don't even have to ask!! None of them leaked & the seal was still intact so I bought all the damaged ones & put them into some 1/2 gal jars at home. BOOOOOYAHHH!! Have a great weekend. 🤗
This is why I like making my own curry blends. A lot of times store bought blends have waaaaay too much clove in them for me (I'm not allergic, exactly, just sensitive to it and ugh) so making my own curry blends is the way to go! Thanks for sharing these!
Thank you for sharing yes I e made some of my own seasoning but that wax 30 years ago and I had forgotten about how easy it is im going you use your recipes Thank you
Thank you so much for doing this. I’ve made my own natural herb and spice blends for a while. Just added 2 more to my list thanks to you. Italian seasoning, taco seasoning, pickling spice ….the possibilities are endless-and better for you. So true that you can adjust them to your own specs!! And knowing what is actually in them is an added bonus.
This just adds to the way we are all hooked on sugar. I was amazed that there would be sugar in a savory salty seasoning mix.
3 роки тому+1
Most packaged seasoning mixes have sweeteners in them, but they go by many different names that you might not connect them with sugars. The worst one of all in terms of human health is high fructose corn syrup, but they're inventing new ones all the time.
Thank you. My son and I just made your hot sauce today. It was easy and it tastes amazing. Best sauce we ever made. Will also make this. Will grow my own garlic next year .
Oooohhh Noooooooo I blinked & the vid finished…Thanks Becky I def still loved it huni❣️..☺️ so so much better making your own seasonings & u can tweak them to suit your own taste to..Am just in the middle of Jar pickling 10kg shallot onions with 2 different homemade spice mixes (to give the finished product to my friends, family & myself lol xx ❣️😁
Love this. I make my own taco seasoning, fajita seasoning, chili seasoning, sage, Italian and breakfast sausage seasoning, seasoning salt, garam masala seasoning and more. This year, I dehydrated (outside!) and powdered chile peppers from my garden for my own chile powder. It’s so easy and so good! I live near an Amish bulk store so I tend to buy my other spices there. I’m considering Azure Standard.
For natural coloring you can actually dry and then blend to a powder some ingredients from the garden.... orange colouring from carrots, red colour from red beets and so on... you tube got loads of videos of natural made colouring for food....
I just got some celery from a local farm market and dehydrated it all. Then used a coffee grinder (the one I use specifically for herbs/pepper) and whirled it to a powder. Mixed it with kosher salt. It’s one of the best things ever. ❤️
I wish I lived next door to you. What a great couple of recipes. Thank you. Love everything you make. I have diabetes so will have to leave out the sugar. Hope it won’t make that much difference.

Vickie you are to sweet :) thank you for being here!!
Thank you so much for sharing this. Love watching you create! 👏🎉💖
Love these videos I’ve watched all your videos made vanilla and the taco ranch seasoning definitely going try the season salt thankyou becci great gifts 🎁 as well xx
I can’t wait to try to make these. I’m so excited to find recipes that don’t contain fruits or veggies. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching you make all kinds of things, I’m just happy to be able to personally enjoy them. Thank you so much!!!! Keep on rockin’ girl. Love it all!!!!!!
Yes I agree that making our own is best! Thank you so much for showing us how easy it is!
This is awesome. I will try this. Was glad for the taco and ranch make-at-home mixes too!!
I love having homemade chili seasoning, taco seasoning, cajun seasoning and italian!
I started making my own taco seasoning a few years ago because my friend is gluten-free and so many packaged seasonings have gluten. My family loves it so much better, that I’ll never buy the packets again! I’m excited to try the season salt next! Thanks girl! 👊🏼
Drop your recipe here please! :)
Good morning Becky!! I love homemade seasonings. Thank you for these recipes.
I love your personality.....I just started watching your videos and I'm hooked. I will definitely put this on my to-do list this weekend. Thanks for all the amazing video tips!!!!
Yay! Thank you!
Great ideas! Thank you
Thank you so much!
Thank you you teach this old lady lots of good homemade extras. I will make .
Such a easy and clean way!
How do you boil the rinds for pectin?? This is awesome!
You are rocking and rolling. Congratulations on 100k 💯💯💯💥💥💥
Mrs. Kados here. I have referred to this vlog three times since "meeting" you on UA-cam. Thanks for doing such a great job!
Thanks for this. I’m definitely gonna try this. 😊
Thank you for sharing yes I e made some of my own seasoning but that wax 30 years ago and I had forgotten about how easy it is im going you use your recipes
Thank you
Thank you so much for doing this.
Most packaged seasoning mixes have sweeteners in them, but they go by many different names that you might not connect them with sugars. The worst one of all in terms of human health is high fructose corn syrup, but they're inventing new ones all the time.
Salt enhances flavor of sweet items & a little bit of sweet enhances savory flavors.
Thank you for these. I make my own taco and onion soup mix. Two more to add. Thanks!🙂
I love making my own taco seasoning, steak seasoning and dry rub for pork ribs/chicken.
I make my own taco seasoning, old bay, dressings, pie spice..its never ending
I just got some celery from a local farm market and dehydrated it all. Then used a coffee grinder (the one I use specifically for herbs/pepper) and whirled it to a powder. Mixed it with kosher salt. It’s one of the best things ever. ❤️
I wish I lived next door to you. What a great couple of recipes. Thank you. Love everything you make. I have diabetes so will have to leave out the sugar. Hope it won’t make that much difference.
Oh I’ll need to give these a try! I love making my own blends :)
If you add a small amount of tapioca starch or arrowroot starch it will help keep it from clumping if any small amount of moisture gets in your jar.
