It is pretty straight forward to make bulletproof glass if you want to do that for the visor as well. Oh and the energy shield is mostly extra protection for plasma fire. Though it does block bullets. MJOLNIR in lore is bulletproof against standard small arms.

Stainless steel is cool and all, but something I want to see that strangely hasn't been done, is a nice DOT approved Master Chief motorcycle helmet. Riding with a street legal Chief helmet would be absolutely sick, and I hope someday someone starts making them.
I don’t know much about 3d printing metal, but I feel like if the helmet was made out of titanium it would probably not be as heavy. Also I saw a video from a Chanel I think is called “demolition ranch” and he fired a 50 caliber bullet from a Barrett (at least I think it was a Barrett) into a 1 inch thick thing of titanium, and it didn’t go through. It took a chunk out of the metal but still pretty cool stuff.
I would've been interested in hearing about the properties of the steel alloy chosen. I think your dad is right that it won't stop much above a 22. I've seen videos of people shooting through unhardened steel easily and I don't imagine the 3D printing process gave the metal any properties like hardened steel. If you had the means to do a heat treatment and quench then the helmet could be stronger.
Not sure if this was mentioned in a comment, but going by the stated weight of 35 lbs for 316L stainless steel, the approximate weight of this helmet in titanium would be 16.8 lbs. It would be really interesting to know what an entire suit made of titanium would be given someone with Cheifs actual weight and frame.

If you wanted to paint it afterwards you should have soda or sand blasted it to re-texturise it so that paint has a pores surface to adhere to.
This will soon become standard issues military gear.
