Romanian here. I doubt that today clubs would agree to play at low temperatures and on bad stadiums. The billions that exist today in football made the game much softer and boring .
In eastern Europe sports were doing fine only when the state was interested to be so. In communism the economy was doing bad and the state needed something to make the people forget about their daily struggles. And sport was doing just that. After the fall of communism when the new politicians cared only to enrich themselves and became the new upperclass, nobody cared anymore about sports. Without the state backing the sport collapsed.

I remember watching this game in Romania as a kid. Strays had an amazing team but were worried about travelling to Moscow to play this game because it was -15 degrees and the ground was completely frozen . Players said that it was like playing on pavement 😅.
