    Buying my 3500 and 5th wheel this week. Trying to decide on 5th wheel hitch vs. gooseneck, so I googled it. First video that came up was this one. Just ordered the companion. One and done. Thanks Lance. I just subscribed.

    Well, 3 million miles plus over 32 years long haul with semi, my personal choice is Goose over 5th if I have a choice-unless running a cab and chassis setup,, that is closer to axle like a semi truck. Once, just once, grab your trailer controller and slam on your trailer brakes... goose tightens your seat belt, 5th wheel send your headlights into the trees activating ABS on front axle, simply physics, much much higher from axle causing tow vehicle tilt. If you tow 5th wheel travel setups, you don’t have a choice, the hitch height is part of the engineering of the frame, but if towing a flatbed ect, opt for the ball with safety chains and it’s better articulation and you will have a better towing experience.

    As someone who has towed trailers for hundreds of thousands of miles I vote for the Gooseneck over the 5th wheel. Primary reason is the weight at the point of connection between the tow vehicle and trailer is lower and closer to the drive axle of the tow vehicle! Less leverage, especially side to side, and therefore more stability!

      What's your opinion when it comes to people putting semi truck 5th wheels on their truck?

    • @Valor_73737
      @Valor_73737 3 роки тому

      @@backyardhooper06 Actually, if someone wants a 5th wheel hitch go ahead. There isn't THAT much difference in the towing. I just prefer the gooseneck, primarily because of the point I made above, and because they are easier and quicker to remove to not obstruct the bed of the truck if you want to haul things needing a wide, flat floor, such as plywood for instance.

    What's the best set up for a farm & tow truck that has to do it all? Haul a travel trailer & horse trailer with possibly different connections (maybe even a bumper pull mixed in), winch, and hauling lumber flat in the bed?

    So do Class A trucks pulling over 40,000 lbs of weight use a Gooseneck or a 5th wheel 🤔
    You ever seen the flexibility in the tube of the Gooseneck neck hitch? I have Plasma cut and weld new ones in.

    I am looking at buying trailer that going to need a 5th wheel hookup. But I still need to put a camper on when not using the 5th wheel so I need to make sure whatever hardware is in the bed will not enter fear putting the camper back on. We do horse camping to so I pull a horse trailer when the camper is on. We have been camping with just the camper but now we are looking at having more camper space when its just camping will this work in the bed for putting a camper on.

    I looks like the companion would be unstable when connected to the goose neck hole without it's own base being in contact with the pickup box floor. Because there is a gap between the Companion base structure and the box floor.

      I would personally go 6.7 powerstorke. Rams aren't bad but have been known to have transmission issues (those have seemed to have died down in the last ~4 years but still). I personally wouldn't get a 3/4 or 1 ton truck with a gas motor. The only real pro is the ~10k cheaper price tag. I bought a 6.7 powerstroke about 3 months ago and love it! I also dont do much towing FWIW.

    • @mr.nobody68
      @mr.nobody68 5 років тому +1

      Never buy brand new. Look for anything up to 5 years old with reasonably low mileage. It's just cheaper. Plus, it's still under warranty.
      That said, you honestly can't go wrong buying any late model American brand truck.
      The Dodges have transmission issues
      The F*rds, well, they're fucking F*rds. And F*rd is a four letter word.
      As for the Dirtymax, I just think GM trucks have gotten uglier every year since the inflatable fenders came out in 07.
      I honestly can't say a bad word about GM pickups other than they're overpriced as fuck

    Great video! I run hotshot and pull a 40 foot gooseneck trailer and have to drop and hook every day for the past 8 years and I’m sick of it lol. I always thought a gooseneck hitch was stronger for heavy loads so that’s why I stuck with it. I’m thinking about going with the companion for easier drop and hook being that with the gooseneck you have to crank the trailer all the way over the ball vs. the 5th wheel where you just crank enough to get the weight off of the truck.Do you recommend this and do you think it’s worth the money to make the change?thanks
