  • The Glenbeigh Horseshoe is one of Ireland's classic hill walks. We lengthened this by adding on a couple more summits at the start. Starting on the Kerry Way from Glenbeigh along June hedgerows bursting with fragrance and colour and alive with birdsong, the route took us across 11 summits, and covered 29 km over almost 14 hours. We eventually descended Drung Hill and rejoined the Kerry Way, picking up a lift where it meets a tarred road at Mountain Stage. We encountered 360 degree scenery the whole way, including lakes so blue they might have swallowed the entire sky, small patchwork quilt patterns of ancient field systems and golden sandy beaches bathed by aqua seas. And jaw dropping scenery of The Reeks, the Dunkerrons and the Slieve Mish Mountains.

Thank you for sharing this fantastic video, you were just blessed with the weather on that day you did it !! Must be the longest horseshoe walk in Ireland, and one of the most beautiful ones !! Congratulations for the footage !!

Thanks, David. It's a real challenge to cover as much ground as we did in a day and still manage to shoot enough quality video to make a half decent film. The weather helps enormously and we were certainly blessed the day we did Glenbeigh!

Thanks so much, Jimmy. We really enjoyed filming this one. The scenery was simply stunning in the fine weather and the walking really enjoyable although it was a long, hard day!

Well done guys! That's another super job. I'm so glad that you got glorious conditions. The cinematography is getting better all the time. One thing: I suspect you may have video'd simonoburn...Is there any possibility that you might upload something brief so we could get a look at him? (For those of you who are not members of MountainViews.ie simonoburn is Ireland's greatest mountain runner. Paul

Thanks, Captain V! Glad you liked the latest offering. Weather conditions were truly beyond expectations and the scenery mighty. We did not actually video Simon B, as we met him on the summit of Colly the day after we did the 'Horseshoe', when we were experimenting with some long exposures. We did photograph the three of us though and the picture is up on the Motley Views forum of MViews.

As an all round cynic and burnt out atheist that was really enjoyable..more so than expected anyway. The simplicity and beauty of that climb seem shadowed by a beguiling existential question -i imagine it must be a great clearing house for some of lifes deeper questions and struggles..if those mountains could talk !
I note you didn`t bring up the roller skates for the express return for tea and cakes..too dam heavy anyway.
How long did it all take and did you sleep the the sleep of the just ?
I understand there`s an unwritten rule, although i might have misconstrued, that suggests the higher you go the sweeter the kiss..is this true ?
